I'm not sure Rockstar really care about how the Manhunt franchise stands to make money by itself. However, for building the reputation as a no holds barred, anti-establishment development house, it's a marketing execs wet dream. That's worth way more to them than the game could make on its own.

The people who are already sharing music and movies probably aren't too worried about additionally using an outlawed protocol. I mean, what's one more law broken?

More likely the MPAA want to gain the bandwidth benefits of P2P with a more controlled environment and shop front. That way they can market a legal service to Joe Sixpack and the sharers who feel a little guilty. Who knows, they could surprise us with the next iTunes. I'm not holding my breath however...

I don't see why your post has been modded redundant because you have a point, there is quite a lot of back story and 'universe' that could be used. However, as fun as the books are I just don't think they are very good. I read 'First Strike' and although he writes action reasonably well, the characters and plot are not very memorable. The standard of those elements was in keeping with a computer game but that doesn't fit very well with books (and film). Not the sign of a classic.

Maybe it's just that Master Chief, the main character from Doom and others that have made it into film or books just don't have much personality to begin with. That's because you as a player are required to fill those boots for yourself as you play. In my opinion this doesn't translate very well to the passive passenger seat role you take in watching a movie.

  24. Re:Remove Key? on Valve Responds to Steam Territory Deactivations · · Score: 1

Why cant you have two keys?

Of course there is no reason why you shouldn't be allowed two keys. However, those keys are part of a license agreement distinct to each reagion. When software is sold under license (for example via Steam) the vendor can make all kinds of stupid stipulations and conditions in the EULA of that software. If you agree to those terms (and penaltes for breaking them) at purchase time or when you enter your license code then hard luck, that's what you accepted. Regardless of whether you think this is fair or not.

As an aside, I think it sucks too and it's pretty unfair that they locked people out. They made a mistake in allowing this loophole and should take some responsibility for it being exploited. The correct action would be to learn from their own mistake, lock down the loophole and prevent this happening with future products. Infuriating their user base and blemishing Steam's reputation just seems like a PR blunder.
