See what this phrase did to us? Free Software was about freedom, giving the users choice, and all those warm and fuzzies. Open Source can be hurt if the users decide what they want.
P.S. I've seen more trojans from Sony and retail games.
You are assuming the people were accustomed to, or at least had heard of the open source alternatives before turning to piracy. Usually that isn't the case. I don't think people accustomed to open source software turn to pirating their commercial alternatives that often.
If Microsoft (not sure about apple) took that attitude, people would just blame Nvidia for crappy gfx cards/drivers. Or they would beat their monitors to death.
What's wrong with jack? To the extent I've used it (plugged in a guitar and mucked around with effects etc.), it seems to work as advertised. Is it lacking in some critical way?
I've never done any meaningful media production work but I'm curious.
The big console companies make their money selling games, not hardware. If free mobile games were to become big, it could eat a big chunk of their revenue. Almost like microsoft releasing something like linux because that's what the users want:)
It would be alot cooler to carry one big flash drive with a boot loader and many partitions containing the bootable images. Well, your afraid of the flash getting corrupted, carry two.
Not that I do that, I tried but failed miserably at doing so. Does anyone know of an easy way of accomplishing this? Something as simple as this shouldn't be so hard to do:)
You forget who owns Qt. Symbian is not really dying yet (come on, the biggest mobile phone manufacturer uses it in all its smartphones), if it were, it would mean that Qt were becoming more relevant as, you know, the day symbian dies is the day that nokia switches to linux (not the android kind).
Oo, I was unaware of that.
This should probably be modded up as informative
Should've read my message after preview, the Ã--'s should of course be *'s. Is there a reason for slashdot breaking unicode so badly? :P
What size is your shirt pocket? maemo.nokia.com says the dimensions are 110.9 Ã-- 59.8 Ã-- 18 mm and 19.55mm for the thickest part.

Is that 1200-1300 befor or after taxes? That 2500 euro/month pretty much turns into 1250 euros after income tax, pensions and whatnots
It's progressive but it seems that for the average income (~2500 euros/month) it would be about 29%
Yeah, except that we do too :P
Eh, sissies. 22% on most of the stuff we buy here in Finland.
You must be new around here.
You're linking to a tutorial on ubuntu 7.04, the parent is talking of 7.10. Usually in slashdot we at least rtfu(url) we're posting :)
Are you saying that the linux adoption rate is declining? Really?
If Microsoft (not sure about apple) took that attitude, people would just blame Nvidia for crappy gfx cards/drivers. Or they would beat their monitors to death.
Why not just install ubuntu 9.04 then?

I consider myself a geek so I cant be sure of the others but I would believe that the same holds true for pretty much every niche out there.

Virtually all keywords have either a jump or a fall right before christmas (see hygiene for a fall, don't ask me why).

Why?
Too late for what? Too late for it to become adopted? Have you heard of the K desktop environment?
You forget who owns Qt. Symbian is not really dying yet (come on, the biggest mobile phone manufacturer uses it in all its smartphones), if it were, it would mean that Qt were becoming more relevant as, you know, the day symbian dies is the day that nokia switches to linux (not the android kind).
But why should flash crashing take down all of firefox? Why couldn't we just encapsulate flash in it's own process or something?
Does it matter? We'll still want more.
You mean like how we all use linux on the desktop? ;)
:)
Kidding, of course. Most anyone DOES use linux on the desktop, don't they
The difference is that the restaurant states it, the isp doesn't.
