My solar watch was working fine after more than 16 years. Never replaced a battery. Unfortunately i got mugged and it was stolen. Just a few hours in the sun was more than enough to run it for weeks.
We kinda need to wait a bit longer before we can claim anything about these models predictions. After we are talking about climate not weather remember.
And the result is basically the same if you use normal uranium and reprocess! Thorium is only "significantly" better when you compare to a once through cycle. Which Thorium can't even do so its hardly a fair comparison. The only difference is less actinides. But since reprocessing can deal with that and with pure uranium cycles you have less 234U is not clear its even a win at all. 234U is a nasty gamma emitter and makes reprocessing very difficult.
Also you didn't answer the question. Where does this 10000 year number come from.
He wants small distrubuted plants full of plutonium. This is one crazy dude.
What the hell are you talking about? *if* we do nuclear we should be reprocessing and breading and that means plutonium. The amounts and grades in reactors can't be used in bombs without some large enrichment. Any nuclear fuel can be used in a bomb. 233U was even used from the Th fuel cycle.
Really why is he crazy for suggesting breeders? cus that is all you got. Breeders fix the waste problem, well most of it. And we can't fix anything of these problems without *building* something.
If your using a reprocessing cycle you don't need to keep is safe for that amount a time. Perhaps a century, maybe a little longer. Even without reprocessing its not 10000 years. Where do these ridiculous numbers come from? Where did you get this number from?
Where does this Truthiness come from. Thorium fuel cycle produces about the same amount of waste as normal reprocessing Uranium fuel cycle. That not really odd since you need to create 233U from the Thorium first since Thorium is not a fuel but is fertile. So your burning Uranium.
A person can back-load an old portable generator into a transformer and create an EMP that will theoretically immobilize all electronics within a 3-block radius.
Err... i like to see that theory. Because BOEC says no it can't.
Try being around even 1 year olds. Or 3 year olds. Sure some ravens display *one* aspect of intelligence (spacial reasoning and tool making) that surprised us, and other animals often surprise us too. But they don't have *all* the things we have. Why we are so different. And we are. Is a question that is very interesting because physiologically we don't seem to be quite so different.
Sure, they're not going to be able to run a computer for you, they weren't meant to.
Its also alive and well on RAID setups. We have had multiple simultaneous failures. What happens is that there are problems in part of the disk that are not frequently accessed. Then then when you do.... cascading failure.
I went on the CERN tour the other week. It mostly suxed. But they did show us this array of tape storage. One of the reasons for tapes is reliability. A tape is easy to repair if it fails and is highly unlikely to fail in the first place.
Only compared to really really really stupid 3 year olds. Sure they may know/understand about the same number of words... that is not the same as "as smart as a 3 year old".
I love meat as much as the next guy. But we are in fact very versatile omnivores. We can have very healthy no meat diets and even vegan diets. There are few things to watch in the vegan case. But scientifically there is nothing meat gets you, that you couldn't have got from what the meat more or less ate.
While it wasn't a failure. It wasn't even a complete design. No breading was done at all example and a breeding ratio of 1 has not been done. The in situ reprocessing has not been tested or done or had safety demonstrated. The list goes on.
As for safety. Yea pebble bed reactors are totally safe too with all that passive safely. Germany would no longer agree with that statement. Anyone who says "total safety nothing can go wrong" are liars or stupid. Yea sure you thought of everything.. oh no wait you didn't. ops.
The only people who think LFTR are ready to be deployed now are armchair pro nuke folk. Anyone in the industry or the know realizes that its prototype plant time at best, and a 20+ year testing and validation cycle.
People died during the evacuation, and now at least 20 odd children have cancer that was likely caused by leaks from the plant with many more to come in the next few years.
Over 17000 people, some of them children, where killed or are missing from the same Tsunami. Keep it in perspective.
Err the 1-50ppb of He3 is also completely useless. If you can burn He3 you can burn DD and create all the He3 you need. Neutrons are not that hard to deal with. If you still don't believe me, work out the size of the mining operation to run just one 1GW power station assuming 100% efficiency!

And yet only ~50 people died, much less than was on board at the time. Compared to a modern airliner going down. Fears are mostly irrational.

And there are proposed solutions to those as well. Also they make up a very small portion of waste.

miss mod. Sorry.
Or worse. What if your driving it.

Eclipse is never needed for a real language, if you need an IDE, there is something wrong with your language.
Oh your one of those people.....

Taxes. The next thing will be that chimps will owe taxes.
...inequality in wealth distribution.
It has never been more evenly distributed in all history, ever.
Thing about the good old days is they weren't.

And without instruments humans are crap at telling which way is up or down or how fast or slow or what sink rate you have.
I would gladly take the machine over the human if I had the choice any day.
imitation regolith is not like the real thing. For starters its not close in terms of abrasiveness.
