You can't play a game other people host and expect them to lose their own game. If anything, Rotten Tomatoes has made them obsolete, aside from the people who are more concerned with celebrity worship than filmcraft.

Exactly. There are two legitimate research paths, cause and cure, and symptom treatment. It seems those researching symptom treatment are attacked, which certainly doesn't help sufferers. "cure or bust" doesn't make sense.

Of course there can be more than one process at work, e.g. fishing and warming. Perhaps read the paper and see what they are really talking about. As far as the abstract states, the authors were working to isolate the effect of warming alone on fish stocks.

Perhaps re-read my comment. I never said only one process was at work. I even mentioned the fact that the study claims they can isolate the impact from warming, which is what I was calling bullshit on.

Turns out there was a major problem with the study it said it was.

Also the ocean temperature drops rapidly as you go lower, the ocean temperature just a few feet down is not going to be changing much at all. Lots of fish spend most time below the very top layer.

The decline in fish populations is more likely a result of overfishing, something we should be working against - but thankfully there are quite a lot of fish farms these days, so the supply of fish for the world to eat is not as threatened as the summary makes it out to be.

Human fishing is well known as the key force in seafood population. Clearly it significantly dwarfs any climate based impact to date, so much I can't see how they could fully account for that impact without the rest being in the statistical noise zone, even though they claim they can do that.

However, if some species are know to flourish with warming while others struggle, shifting to fish more of the flourishing ones and less of the strugglers wouldn't be a bad thing to shoot for.

As it turns out, cops are people. Like all other people, most are good, some are awesome, and some are assholes.

Yeah, except their average tends to be significantly less intelligent than the citizenry they are allegedly protecting. Most estimates put the current average IQ of US LE officers at around 93. Why? Because of various boneheaded court decisions. Jordan v New London sided with the police, in that they could set a maximum IQ for hiring. Doesn't matter that their reason for it - a belief that smarter people left the force more quickly - turned out to be wrong. That precedent led to most departments adopting the same standards - basically, people over scoring over 110 need not apply.

The second is the still controversial concept of 'qualified immunity', as set in Harlow v Fitzgerald. Which has been leveraged, hammered, and beaten into the current unrecognizable form. Ignorantia juris non excusat - ignorance of the law is no excuse ... EXCEPT if you are a cop! Cases like Pauly v White are now the norm - if the cop thought they were enforcing the law, then they are excused from all wrongdoing, including killing innocent people. This has led to most cops going out of their way to remain ignorant of the actual law. Because - obviously - if you actually knew the law, then you could be held liable for violating it.

Sure, there are a lot of good cops ... the problem is that the trend is going the other way

    IQ? Seriously?
