I remember the paper ballot and marker system. It was very easy to use and the ballots were very large and clearly layed out.
I never understood why it was necessary to change that system. It seemed to work great. When the whole debacle with the 2000 election in Florida happened, my first thought was that they should switch to the system that we have in MD.
The Diebold machines aren't any easier to use and given all the problems that have been discovered with them it seems that it was simply a waste of tax-payer money.
You obviously didn't read my post and immediately jumped to conclusions.
It's a shame that people automatically shun any idea that doesn't involve throwing more money at failing schools. If a restaurant continues to serve food that tastes terrible, people will stop going and it will eventually go out of business. However, schools that continually fail to perform just get more and more public funding and little or no change in management (for lack of better term).
I believe schools should be publically funded. I also believe that parents should be able to choose to send their child to a better school if one is available. Why these two ideas cannot exist together is extremely puzzling to me.
The real problem is that government runs the schools. And as we all know, government usually finds a way to fsck everything up.
I'm in favor of publically funded, but privately owned and operated schools. Let parents choose what schools their kids go to and let the public funds follow them. We'll see how fast underperforming schools shape up when there is profit motive.
Besides, I didn't say anything about not wanting to fight. I simply thought that your "Force could be required." statement to be stupid in the context in which is was placed.
I'm certainly not one of those hippie, "War is never the answer", morons. However, use of force as a means for a political party to gain power is not something that I am in favor of. Nor do I think that it is necessary.
Wow dude. I said nothing about being married in my post. That was my sig which is a quote from a TV show called "The Family Guy". Maybe you need to relax a little.
Bullshit. If that were the case, we wouldn't have representatives and everyday we would be voting on what the government should do about every issue that arises.
We elect representatives to do what is right for the country/state/county/etc... popular or not.
Take a look at a DIMM... it usually has a bunch of chips on it. The 2GB DRAM will probably be on a DIMM of 8 DRAM chips... making the DIMM a 16GB DIMM.
I'm assuming that the flash chips are much bigger (in physical size) because they are meant to be used alone (and will cost a lot more), but the DRAM chips are meant to be used in groups in a larger package.
Then again, I might not know what the hell I'm talking about.
After reading the first 20 or so comments posted in response to this article, I've come to the conclusion that the average/. reader is a fucking cry-baby.
some money??? They reported $1.4 billion (and not the stupid european version of billion which really means million) in revenue last year. Is that just "some money"? Usually companies are valued at some multiple of their revenue. Their IPO raised 1.6 billion... just above their revenue from the previous year.
The difference between Google and the "dot-coms" is that Google actually makes money. Amazing isn't it.
I noticed last night that my TV recognizes some commericals as ads for other shows and tells you to press the thumbs up button to record the show in the ad.
Give me a break. Like 37 cents to have some take your letter 3,000 miles from New York to Los Angeles isn't the deal of the century. A friggin 12oz can of soda out of a vending machine costs 3x more.
Somehow I get the feeling that you didn't read the parent post I was responding to.
Had you done that, you would have realized that I was responding to a post from someone in Russia complaining about his crappy internet connection and lack of good options.
As a voter you simple have to be responsable for your OWN ballet.
I'm glad that someone made that point. People often forget that voting is just as much a responsibility as it is a right. It is not something you should do haphazardly.

Only one thing matters:
Tax Cuts.
"Then again, I guess inveting the wheel is more "fun" :-/"
Of course it is. Why do you think no one likes to write code in Java/.NET?

Idiot.
All children must learn to chew on a 3rd grade level before leaving elementary school.

To limit copies of CDs made, the recording industry should just keep producing the same old crap that nobody wants anyway.

Now that's pretty slick.
Just Look at the United States Postal Service.

Well, what if the real number is 90,001? That's not less than 90,000... but it's more than 89,599.
Holy shit. You mean there is intelligent life on /. afterall?
Good post.
Right... because Apple makes ThinkPads.
and publicly referring to poor people exploited on TV as white trash is just arrogant.
Well, maybe. But don't you think making the assumption that "poor people" == "white trash" is a little ignorant?

Don't blame us. Blame Karl Marx.

Well, you're already in bed with the evil phone company... so what's the difference?
Someone needs to just run fiber to everyone's house/business and put all these bozos out of business.

This will trigger 100 posts that mistakenly refer to it as X Windows.
