I'm not sure if anyone else follows "insider transactions," but I find it almost comical that Google would let this news out just days after Sergey Brin had stock transactions of $26M and 16M on Arpil 5th and 4th. Here is the link: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=GOOG
It's good to be EVIL!
While many P2P network defendants use the analogy that "guns don't kill people, people kill people" arguement, it is not applicable in this case. MOST P2P file swapping is of copyrighted material and inherently illegal, though it is not the P2P prorgram, per se, that is violating the copyright - it is the user. Now, going back to the gun analogy, if MOST gun were used to kill people, which they are not, then you can be sure that guns would be illegal. This is the case with P2P programs - they are mostly used for illegal activity and thus the copyright holders have no recourse than to go after the P2P makers.
Now, I am not a backer of the RIAA MPAA and use P2P programs myself - but I understand their sentiment. Think of it like a race car that is not street legal - sure, people could drive them on city streets at legal speeds, but the fact is that in the hands of MOST people they would be breaking the law by speeding - thus they have to be ruled illegal for street use.
Maybe this story should be called "How to make your Mac Mini less useful." I'm all for open source, but at times people go too far, to the point where they would have a less useful open-source run piece of equipment than a "closed-source" one that was very useful.
You guys on the Linux bandwagon always crack me up - it's not necessarily the OS that causes trouble - it's the morons using them! I am a LONG time Windows user and have never had a problem, mainly because I keep things updated and run periodic scans for viruses, adware, etc. It's the people that just surf around without regard to anything that end up with compromised computers. So why are Linux users less susceptible to probems - 1, because they are generally smart computer users and 2, because nobody is writing exploits for Linux! Believe me, if the whole virus/malware writing community suddenly decided to focus on Linux instead of Windows, you guys would be in a sh!tstorm.
Nice knowin' ya Jeb! Apparently you don't know that planes land at about 70+ miles an hour. When you can jump out of a car at 70 mph and not get hurt, then try to land in your silly wing suit.
Looking at that new calendar, if your birthday is say, July or August 31st, you no longer have a birthday, as his new calendar has only 30 days in July and August.
GENIUS!
Serisouly, all you Ashcroft haters name ONE thing he has done that has affected you directly. And preventing you from stealing copyrighted material does not count.
One question - why can't you group contacts yet? When I want to send an email to a group of friends, family, etc you have to pick EVERY contact individually.
Now this isn't the end of the rainbow and there is no pot of gold, but if you are one of the first 5 lucky/.'ers to get one of these email accounts - ENJOY!

When will media organizations realize that this sort of thing does not hurt - especially the NFL who does not release anything other than highlight tapes on video anyway.
Uh, ok. Let me know when you have a kid and I'll be sure to send the scat and anal fisting pictures their way!
Phew, I thought we would get through today without 5 articles bashing Microsoft - what a relief!

Is it just me, or is /. now becoming the place for "news you already know about"?
Glad this made it to /., it's only 2-3 day old news.

QUESTION: The story does not mention how she got the rights to use those ROMs on her product. Anyone got an answer to this?
Funny, I submitted this story 2 weeks ago - REJECTED!
