Could someone please explain why major coroporations choose to embed linux kernel? Are there technical limitations against embedding the more refined *BSD kernel as opposed to the buggy Linux kernel?

In my case a doctor could go to a computer and do work for a few minutes then go to see a patient and forget to wash his/her hands before donning gloves(happens all the time), then examine the patient. I'm sure in about 7 years we would end up with some FANTASTIC security applications that we would have to steal from the ports tree and make into.deb,.rpm or just compile them ourselves. However, there would probably be no documentation but on the bright-side I'm sure a few theme songs would come out of it.
All-in-all I think it is a safer bet with Theo (de Raadt) at least we would know that the money is being spent on the project with the exception of occasional six-pack of cold beer and X tablets. As for Symantec I don't trust that the money will be properly spent on the project.

I too am an OOo user in the academic world and I was wondering about how the inability to create user-forms in OOo and some other limitations importing VBA into OOo has effected the practical use of OOo (particulary Calc and Writer) in the office environment?
I thought these limitations would have discouraged companies from using OOo as opposed to M$ Office even in light of Open standard promises and the economic benefits from utilizing OOo.
So first they took away our call centers... Then they took away our IT jobs... Now they're taking our priviledge to test dangerous drugs on the poor and destitute?

What Novell needs to do, is take what it has in SUSE, and work on getting more linux on desktop users machines.
I will agree here. Novell has successful products on the market why not take what it already has and benefit where Linux might prove useful with its current products. For example developing SUSE to be the finest and most well-integrated desktop OS with its Networking, Exchange and Sharing products.
The authors conclusion identifies Novell's strength and direction when Asay writes, "Novell is growing into its role as a major Linux vendor, and Red Hat is growing into its role as a major company, period." Because of this I think that Novell would be better-off dropping the Server-Side Development and move to Desktop Development combined with its powerful middle-ware products.
