For most people, Asterisk is not easy to use. Several companies are offering setups that are very easy to use. See http://www.coneenterprises.com/phone_solutions.php and http://fonality.com/ for and interesting solution based on Asterisk. The interface rivals Vonage which is great for VoIP. The next generation of the software will allow database calls based on caller id so you can launch outlook or another database and pull up information based on the caller id. This system can add users and extentions easily. You can even setup a very complex call center queue.

Its not like you have to work for a particular company, thats where the freedom is. Company X wants you to work under a noncompete clause then maybe you should go with Company Y instead. Unless Company X pays you enough that you don't worry about the non-compete clause. If you freely choose to enter in to a contract (with or without a lawyers advice) then you should be required to follow the parameters of the contract.

  3. Liability? No... on Orkut Linked To Drug Ring Bust · · Score: 2, Interesting

I don't think there should be any liability for providing a service like this. Thats like saying the US government is responsible for drugs that someone sold using the US mail. Or UPS being responsible for the same thing. However this begs the question should a more dangerous item such as a bomb be the shippers responsibiliy? Personally I think it should not be. However in a good free market I think you should see some competition in this area, "our service is better because we scan your packege before you get it" which of course spawns services that are completly scan free and so everyone ends up buying home scanners. Or not ;)

We are already seeing viruses that target cell phones, whats to stop someone from using this to create mini viruses that target the police and or other scanners that will be looking at the ID? And if the card has any writting capability at all be prepared to get the virus yourself... I have to agree with masses here, this is a horrible idea. I frown on any kind of National ID system aswell. The better the system the easier it is to track us. Do you want every big company and the government to have access to your every habit, right or wrong? Do you want them to know where you shop when you shop there and how much you spend? How about the exact amounts of time that you spend at work? The privacy implications are staggering. Write your congressperson and/or local rep... Its all great to talk about but if you don't get out and do something its a worthless waste of time!

Anyone else wondering why the Supreme Court has taken over functions of legislation recently? It seems to me that this is not how the court was originally designed to operate...My understanding was that there are supposed to be three branches of governement...with good reason: keeping anyone person or group from having too much power. Now it seems to me that the Supreme Court has aquired the 'power' of legislation by 'vetoing' laws in this country...wouldn't it be better to rewrite the law ie using the process of a republic...
