Because samba doesnt work with XP anyways. I run a large network (about 500 mixed slowlaris/win2k/intel-linux boxes) with XP front ends and fileservers. All of the samba stuff we had kludged together stopped working when we upgraded to XP.
So we decided to upgrade the unix/linux boxes to win2k/xp. Hell, we might piss off some of the developers, but at least everyone will be able to access the files.
