Re:DARPA or DHARMA?
For those at don't get it, it's a reference to Lost (and actually the first thing I thought of before laser beams).

Re:trust pc makers?
The general populace cannot properly build a PC. I have experienced firsthand the results of someone trying to build their own PC, time and time again. There are just too many things that can go wrong. But they should not have to settle for Dell if they do not want. That makes it my job to select quality brand name parts and assemble a quality PC, and if a person wants a $300 PC, then that's what I will build for them. If they want a $600 PC, ok. The more you pay, the more power.
Of course, the other great choice to be offered is Linux, or Windows, or both? Dual boot, VMWare Player, or both? I have now 250 customers, many local, a few not, who enjoy their linux PC and receive tech support and software updates from me, free for the first year, or longer if they wish (for extra $$).
Right now many of my customers are enjoying their new 3D accelerated desktops (video!), and hopefully everyone will have this by christmas. Flash player 9 is also going on select customer desktops, those who are comfortable trying out new software which is not official. All of my customers recieve emails describing services from rhapsody.com, emusic.com, abc.com, new features from KDE and related software (amarok!), and other news of interest.
The main theme here is support. It should not be as difficult as it is with Dell. I think it should be more personal, and that is what i hope to offer. That and, of course, a better quality PC than can be found elsewhere. That, above all, is why I entered this business.. working on Dell, Gateway and Compaq etc PCs for years left me wanting something more for my customers, like quality name brand parts, painless and inexpensive hardware and software updates, and of course, personalized tech support.

Good News Everyone!
So far I haven't had any luck though:
"wget http://www.abc.com/"
I'm just getting a lot of junk, no shows so far.
I hope they get this fixed soon! -
Re:Christian Science Monitor?
If any religious group decides to control a news source don't you think that they might be doing it to get yet another outlet for self-promotion?
I hate to bite, but was "retarded islamic" really called for?
Also, religious group, as opposed to corporate media? CNN, ABC,CTV, or Fox? Are these not in the business of self promotion? -
Re:The best thing about the strategy
Would that be the mainstream press that's owned by Time-Warner, the mainstream press that's owned by Viacom, the mainstream press that's owned by Disney, or the mainstream press that's now owned by Vivendi-Universal?

Re:Plenty fair
A. Disney IS buying networks.
B. I don't care who manufacturers the TVs, they should still work with competing stations. -

Re:try watching channels besides SciFi network
It is all over comedy central too. I watch that channel more than any other (by far) and Impostor is being promoed to death on that channel as well.
I would have thought comedy central, sci-fi, and dimension (film distributor) was all owned by the same company, but that is not the case, so actual money did change in promoting this movie.
Sci-Fi is owned by USA Networks (which was just bought by Universal/Vivendi, the same company that owns mp3.com)
Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, says this site.
Dimension is owned by Miramax, which is owned by Disney -- says this site and this site.
I don't watch too much tv, but you would think that Disney would plug the movie on ABC and ESPN, which it also owns, especially since they are hurting for cash right now. Why not promote in house?
How is this related to Impostor? Only tangentially. But be aware of the Big Six media companies. Three are involved in this film. It's more than six, but the other companies are AOL/TimeWarner, Sony, NewsCorp, and Bertelsmann (of Napster fame).
Others would add GE to the list, because they own NBC.
In any case, the entirety of our information and entertainment world comes nearly exclusively through those 8 companies. -
Blargh
I don't know why, but this depresses me more than anything I've seen recently on the subject.
- Copy-protected VHS tapes didn't seem to matter. You could still copy them, but copying them left a tell-tale tag. Of course, it was only illegal to make illegal copies and then rent them out for money, so no harm done. Fair use is preserved, and people trying to make a quick buck off of the work of others get what they deserve.
- Copy protection on DAT recorders really sucked, but it still didn't seem all that bad. Maybe that was just because I wasn't a musician or musical artist.
- SDMI really rankled me, but hey, it doesn't stop me from recording my *own* MP3s. And now that things like Ogg Vorbis are coming out, this is really irrelevant.
- Encyrpted DVDs aren't great, but somehow I don't mind that as much. You paid for it, you play it, you can't copy it. I really don't like it, but somehow it seems like something we could overcome.
- The DMCA really really sucks, but that one seems destined to be destroyed in the Supreme Court. I'm pretty confident.
- But when the federal government starts mandating total copy protection of media broadcast on the open spectrum, the property of the people, I feel much more betrayed than I did before. The Executive branch, much harder to control than the legislative, is taking away an entire chunk of property that used to belong to the people as a whole, and giving it wholesale to a small handful of very large companies.
Interestingly, reminding myself that I don't watch TV doesn't seem to help. The FCC is overstepping its bounds, here, and I'm not sure there's anything we can do about it.

Re:Email?Hmm, let's see, I think you can send an Email to them at this address:
2020@abc.com which I got out of this feedback form, which is of course how they want you to send the Email
;-)Good luck though, trying to explain to TV news magazine shows the difference between hacker and cracker is like telling them AD&D isn't a form of devil worship. They'll smile, nod and say, "So, how long have you been a Satan worshiper anyway?" Whether it's because of true stupidity or because they know the truth won't garner ratings, I don't know.
