My favourite editing error.
I'd like to share my favourite publishing editing error, as it's related.

Something I still remember
I remember when everyone suddenly got excited about virtual reality in the early 1990s. Of course, back then it was more the concept and the possibilities that triggered peoples' imaginations- actual VR systems and games did exist at that time, but were never really widespread, probably due to the limitations and cost of the then-current technology and the fact it was essentially a novelty.
One commentator, however, said something that has stuck with me ever since. I can't remember the exact wording, but it was along the lines of...
"Eventually the current fad for Virtual Reality will pass, and everyone will forget about it. Then one day you'll look around you and realise that it's everywhere."
(*) If you remember it too, then yes- it really *was* that long ago :-O -
Re:WinUAE
You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thanks for the info!
Been following the MMU development on WinUAE for a while and I think you'd be pleased to know the base MMU code was lifted from Aranym in the first place. A few bugs were found that were corner cases that Toni found. I believe there was some effort to back-port those fixes to Aranym, or at least let their devs know about them. If you're interested you could drop a message to him and I'm sure he would point them out.
If I get some spare time I will give the d-i build a shot. If nobody has been in there debugging maybe I could be of some service there.

Re:BYTE
>>>the magazine without all the things that made it great is bullshit,
Pretty much. Like reviving the Bionic Woman or Knight Rider and then changing the whole premise of the show. Of course that worked in the case of Battlestar Galactica, but when you're already dealing with a good show (or magazine) there's no point abandoning it.
BTW I've never read Byte. At least not that I remember. My main two addictions were RUN for commodore VICs and 64s plus AmigaWorld (essentially the same as RUN but for 32-bit instead of 8-bit machines). I don't think BYTE would have interested me since I never owned an IBM PC at the time, and from what I remember that was it's main focus. Another magazine I remember was COMPUTE's Gazette but never subscribed to it since it didn't feel as polished or useful as RUN.
So: Just curious: What killed the magazine? - I see Jerry Pournelle is still writing his columns. Love his stories; never read his tech columns: http://www.chaosmanorreviews.com/
RUN (1984-93) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_magazine

Doom was ported but I doubt Comanche was
Doom was ported after the code was open sourced by id. It ran fine on my A1200 with an accelerator and more memory (only at 320x200) but I suspect performance would be poor on a stock A1200.
I don't ever remember Comanche being released for the platform nor can I see it in Hall of Light

Re:How to make the solution?
Just a thought, but why not read the link? It's all in there, in the Wiki. I've had success with both 6 and 9%, and others have had success with as low as 3%.
For me, an hour strong sunlight (I say strong, it's all relative: think February in Northern England) was preferable to overnight with a UV lamp... Not really surprising, I suppose.
Get the stuff, be appropriately careful with it, and have a go.
My results are at the eab gallery

Stupid Patents - How about XOR
Did you know that the XOR function was patented and earned the Patent Holder countless millions until it recently expired? are also patented!? This patent was actually enforced in 1994 to stop the sale of the Amiga Computer in the USA after Commodore stopped paying royalties on the patent. The XOR function was used to move the cursor around the screen.
Patents on algorithms and software should be disallowed.. as these types of patents are ripe for abuse!

ProxyStorm - An anonymous, free, apache based proxy server. -
Uh. Dreadful memories elope.I remember dimly playing a similar themed and named game back in the eighties on my Amiga 2000:
Defcon 5 was truly terrible, but it looks like its new namesake actually has pretty similar screens.
Mmmh. Unusual.

Re:Isn't Rise of the Triads prior art?
http://eab.abime.net/archive/index.php/t-5748.htm
l has a list of some games that fit the bill. This site lists NARC among others. I don't remember what would happen if you got hit with a druggies needle - but I'm pretty sure they were hallucinagetic.
I was originally thinking ROTT as well (Where are you? Over heeere...). -
Amiga was the best.
I used too love the amiga. And still do too some degree. And still use some of the tools and games it had too offer.
If you want too try how the amiga was( or try again) I suggest you try the amiga emulator at:
http://www.winuae.net/ [winuae.net]
It pretty much emulate the amiga perfectly.
If you don't have a old amiga it might be hard to find the ROM's needed too get it too run, but they are out there.
If you really want too see what the amiga was capable of try:
http://aiab.emuunlim.com/ [emuunlim.com] (amiga in a box) which enhance the workbench in ways you newer thought was possible.
This forum is most likely the best place too find anything amiga legacy:

Re:What was its name?
That looks like Rock 'N Roll.

Re:What was its name?
Perhaps you are thinking of AirBall? I really enjoyed that game, the graphics and music were great.

Did he complain last time?
In the early 90s, The Godfather was released for Amiga, Atari and DOS. Check em out at Moby games and the Amiga version specifically at Hall of Light

Try Kaillera
Take a look here for a version of WinUAE with the Kaillera-client (a program that allows emulators to take advantage of TCP/IP for playing games over the 'net).
There's also a version of WinFellow (another Amiga-emulator) with Kaillera-support.
