Re:Okay, and?We have a party line now on Slashdot? that's news to me
:-).
It's true that I'm no expert, so I aped what I read somewhere else. I'll look it up for you now.- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_medicine#Barotrauma (yes, Wikipedia is not a primary source, I know)
- http://rp3.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle/07/13/11/dreams-are-possible-says-1st-southeast-asian-astronaut (only an anecdote though)
- http://iss.jaxa.jp/med/index_e.html JAXA has an article in English on Space Medicine but they don't mention the teeth or the scars
- http://hdl.handle.net/2060/20100014348 this one looks like a primary source; but its only a NASA presentation. on p. 19 under "risk of EVAC" the IMM simulation data table on the left side, lists most likely reason "medical illness" (71%), and in the list of 6 conditions mentioned, nr. 1 is "Dental Abscess". So that explains the exploding teeth
:-) Nothing about scars opening in space though. - Maybe there is Soviet or Russian info on space medicine that talks about that: can a kind soul who reads Russian report if http://www.imbp.ru/ (Windows-1251 charset encoding) has any more information?
Conclusion: forget what I said about the scars opening in space.

Re:you can abide by the rules of war
Reuters: "The U.S. special forces team that hunted down Osama bin Laden was under orders to kill the al Qaeda mastermind, not capture him, a U.S. national security official told Reuters."
CBN News: "U.S. special forces set out to kill Osama bin Laden and dump his body in the sea to make it harder for the al-Qaeda founder to become a martyr, U.S. national security officials told Reuters on Monday. "This was a kill operation," one of the officials said."
CDN: "During the May 3rd interview of CIA director Leon Penetta by NBC Nightly News’ Brian Williams, Mr. Penetta all but admitted that killing Osama bin Laden was the intent of the mission."
The Telegraph: "Several US national security officials have briefed that there was in fact no intention to capture bin Laden, contrary to Mr Brennan’s statement. “This was a kill operation,” one official said. "
That was from 30 seconds on google, I'm sure you can find more if you want. These statements from US officials are why I'm questioning the motives of the operation - and so should you, my friend.

Re:Yep - got me
'Was searching for Bin Laden news, found a program called "Fox Tab" in the search results, and discovered this PDF creation tool was actually a trojan.'
Even worse, I was searching for 'MILF' and I got a legitimate news story about Bin Laden:
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/regions/05/02/11/moro-rebels-call-bin-laden-martyr
("...He added that bin Laden's death has no direct effect on the MILF.")
Be careful out there!

More like the decline of the Wii....
April 6, 2009 - Sony's PS3 outsold Nintendo's Wii during the month of March. Sales of the PS3 were reported at 146,948 units as opposed to the 99,335 Wii units sold. In third place, the Xbox 360 is noted to have 43,172 units sold.
Apparently, Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 (or Yakuza 3, here in the U.S.) and Resident Evil 5 helped urge the PS3 sales, as both games were at the top of the software sales charts. This is, comparatively speaking, good news for Sony's current-gen hardware, though analysts predict that the PS3 will not threaten the Wii's global dominance of the market.
http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSTRE53511I20090406
TOKYO - Nintendo admitted Thursday that its hit Wii video game console was going through its toughest time yet in the competitive Japanese market, but it said there was no plan to cut the price.
"The Wii is in the most unhealthy condition since it hit the Japanese market," Nintendo Co. president Satoru Iwata said. "The current condition in the Japanese market is not the one we want."
But a price war with rivals was not the answer as Nintendo is already the market leader, he said.
"A price cut in a difficult economy cannot really excite the market and drive up sales. As of now I really don't think that a price cut is a good option for us," he told a news conference.
Industry figures showed this week that the rival Sony PlayStation 3 had outsold the Wii in Japan for the first time in 16 months, with sales of the Nintendo console dropping almost two-thirds from a year earlier.

Maybe the casual gamers have moved on and now only the hardcore gamers remain to purchase new software and peripherals? The Wii is at market saturation nearly everywhere and now it's time for the PS3 and X360 to move ahead at least in month to month sales.
For some anecdotal evidence I own all three consoles, each one since their own launch date, and I never touch my Wii (cue childish sexual jokes). In the last month I've hammered away at Valkyria Chronicles and Metal Gear Online for my PS3 for hours upon hours every day. For my 360 I play Virtua Fighter 5 and Fallout 3 regularly as well. And between both the PS3 and 360 I play Street Fighter II HD Remix and Street Fighter IV daily as well. My Wii? Maybe when Dead Space Wii comes out I'll plug the console back in but my god has that thing been collecting dust for months.
Not to mention what hardcore treats the PC is getting coming up by way of Blizzard. I already told my boss I needed a week of vacation off for both of the releases of Starcraft II and Diablo III...
Is hardcore gaming dead because of the Wii? No. Nintendo can't stroke its ego quite that much.

Who is complaining then? For Europe RIPE always has functioned ok, sofar. Ditto for Asia's APNIC the America's have been covered by ARIN . These three bodies have made the Internet what it is today. The only one complaining seems to be the White House itself. Why would that be ? Because today press organizations still can publish stories like these ? :

Re:What a horrible mess...
A question though: I am living outside the US, so I don't know if any offers of foreign aid have come in. Not just money, but doctors, freshwater, etc.
The Philippines. Cuba. Lots of others.
Actually, I read one country (Saudi Arabia?) had offered doctors, but hadn't been given the go-ahead to send them, but I can't find where I read that again.

Philippines already doing thisYou may be surprised to learn that President Arroyo of the Philippines implemented 4-day workweeks just a couple of weeks ago, and the most recent reportssay it is going very smoothly. A clip from the article:
The DBM earlier said the government would save up to P144 million in energy expenses under the four-day work week program for employees of the executive branch.
Keeping in mind that that's only a few million dollars US, but this is also only a 2-month change to 4-day workweeks, and a much smaller country. Having worked this shift before, I have to say it's nice to have 3-day weekends, especially if you can choose if you work monday or friday, and it really doesn't take that long to get used to the extra 2 hours.

Re:Funny...
nd by the way, terrorists don't 'dress up like one' or carry fake passports
Why do you people comment on things that you have no idea about. Do you make things up just to fall in place with your ideology? See this link and then tell me again that terrorists don't carry false passports

Yeah, it's doing a lot better now, especially the new 17-year High in housing starts and the fact that the NASDAQ has hit a 16-month high.

Re:You dont know the issues(read this version)
"Bullshit. We need militay to defend against possible attackers. Also, we have a track record of REBUILDING a country we levied war against. Also the tax cust are needed because small and up businesses SHOULD NOT CARRY ALL THE WEIGHT of welfare and related services.
You have GOT to be kidding me. We've got an arsenal that exceeds overkill. You want to defend against possible attackers, don't kill civilians in an occupation that is not justified by the UN. Another great step in preventing these attacks would be to not have such an offensive foreign policy. We're now finding out that the American people were lied to about WMD in iraq and an "iminent threat" to the US. We overspend by TRILLIONS to keep at bay phony enemies and fight phony wars. I'm sure the 243 dead US soldiers are glad that they've changed little to nothing for most US citizens, spare those who now protest against the war. But it's OK, our generation needed another Vietnam.
On rebuilding, I'll just say that we wouldn't have to rebuild Iraq if we hadn't wasted money bombing the shit out of civilian targets so Presidents Stuffyournose could have a higher approval rating
And onto the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time, Bush's tax cuts did NOTHING to help the economy, not for business owners, (especially not for small business owners), not for the common Joe, and not for anyone, with the exception of a few already wealthy elite upper-class citizens.
"AIDS would have been stopped, have they QUARANTEENED all known AIDS cases at onset. The GAY orginizations didnt like that at all. Then it went from gay disease to a regualr STD."
First of all, it's "QUARANTINE", way to show your ignorance. Secondly, and more importantly, AIDS was never a gay only disease, nope, not from the beginning. Many of the first diagnosed AIDS patients were straight women, and that's an incontrovertible fact. Shouldn't you be burning a cross or heiling somewhere?
Putting AIDS patients in quarantine would do nothing to stop the spread. As is the case with most STDs, people often don't know they have them until they've spread. THE ONLY WAY to prevent the spread of AIDS is with improved education and healthcare methods. You're a shining star of the miseducation of the common person with regards to AIDS. Because of pressure from conservatives like yourself, education about AIDS was delayed in many communities. In urban areas in the 80's many thought that AIDS was like a cold that would go away with time. Others tried such obscene methods as treating their genitals with bleach before intercourse or the long-standing-Judeo-Christian-favorite pull-out method. Not educating people ended up increasing the spread. In areas with functional healthcare systems and increased education incidents of AIDS are rising slower than in other areas. That's right, they're still RISING in most areas.
As long as people such as yourself continue to stigmatize the disease infection rates will continue to rise. Johnny football hero will be to afraid to get tested after he was too cool to use a condom, and he'll probably infect four or five girls before his little "secret" comes out.
I'm sure you've muttered under your breath about how GAY and POOR and LIBERAL I am by now. Just to let you know, I am none of the three, I just keep an open mind and LEARN before making a decision or forming an opinion. You want to see how much of a GAY disease AIDS is, go volunteer at your local AIDS clinic, I doubt bigotry such as yours could withstand the obvious reality that stares you in the face.

There are other countriesUnfortunately, the US is not alone in this. According to this article, the US proposal for a treaty which bans all forms of cloning human cells has the backing of the Philippines, Spain, Italy, Argentina and Costa Rica. I'm a little confused about Italy though, since they seem to have no problem with reproductive human cloning--the first human clone due to be born next month. To my knowledge, France is still undecided as to whether it should follow suit or just ban reproductive human cloning. Research on embryonic stem cells was banned in Germany, though, until last January, when their parliament agreed to allow some stem cell imports, as detailed here South Africa's current draft of their National Health Bill, as detailed here, will outlaw any form of embryo stem cell research, making it "more conservative than even the legislation promulgated in the US and most European countries". "Most" may be exaggerating it a bit though--I know that Denmark, Spain and Sweden allow it, as detailed here.
I think that's about all the time I have to research this. -
Re:Hello, this is the US, Israel's bitch. Thanks for your civil discussion. Your obvious lack of self confidence shines through with your rude comments.
Take a look at his Washington Post article. You'll see that oil is the biggest factor in this push for war. The fact that oil prices will drop is not the focus. It is that US companies will have unfettered access to the second largest oil reserves in the world, which will be conveniently administered by the US.
Thanks for the article, but Jenin is not the only time the IDF has killed Palestinians. Try a google search and you'll find that you simply don't know what your talking about.
While I concede that Palestine has never been officially a sovereign state, the fact remains that the Palestinian people have lived for centuries in what is now modern Israel. In fact if you simply would take the time to read about the history of the conflict you will see that the Palestinian people have in fact suffered mass injustices at the hands of the Israelis including the obvious expulsion from their lands. While I am in no way condoning suicide bombers or any other acts of violence, I am simply stating that your view that Israel is somehow the good guy in this conflict is vastly distorted.
So not to add to the troll, but instead of trying to trump anothers comments with your obviously ignorant views, you should perhaps spend a little time researching your views so that they may seem a little more than an idiot's rant.
