Re:Assisted driving tech saves lives
Horsepower is overrated.
V8 in a 20 yr old sports car had about 200hp and modern four cylinder engines achieve 200hp that while still getting 31mpg -
Re:Google.com?!
I came across one just last week and could hardly believe it myself, because as you say, they nearly always fail. It's Acura's site, and it's actually pretty nice all round.

This isn't new.
The Acura RL has had collision sensing and avoidance as an option for several years, called the Collision Mitigation Braking System.

Honda uses XM NavTraffic
Honda provides the XM NavTraffic system in the smokin' Acura RL (a cool $50,000). You can read more on Acura's Real Time traffic page.

Re:XM & Sirius Radio
I have the NavTraffic service on my Acura RL. It's great!

Acura RL already has Traffic Navigation built in
While I have only seen commercials for the Acura RL it has the technology already built in. However the RL is getting the traffic information from those funny solar pannels on the sides of the road. It is actually pretty slick because the RL uses XM radio as the delivery method for the traffic information provided by Traffic.com. This is already a multi-million dollar project funded by the US Government.

Re:TMC in Europe... nice if this could be here...
It's coming!!
XM started a new service call XM navtraffic which beams traffic information to cars via their satellites. The system is currently available in 20 metro areas. From what I understand, it will be a subscription based service.
The GPS systems that use navtraffic can tell you how long you trip will take with traffic and how long a proposed detour would take. Very cool.
The 2005 Acura RL was the first car to have this available.

Re:But...
Actually, we do get it here in the US (though not the wagon version -- a huge shame, as the wagon is gorgeous) -- as the Acura TSX.

2004 Acura TL
I know you're asking about headsets, BUT...
I just purchased an 2004 Acura TL. It's the first car that has internal Bluetooth... which means I can use voice activated dialing (available on the TL w/Navi model) to call people while my SonyEricsson T616 stays in my briefcase.
Once the pairing is done it's simple to use and the sound quality is exceptional. -
Re:tagging bills together
European Escort != US Escort. They're different cars. The original poster was pointing out that the cards that are sold in Europe are built to a more exacting standard than US cars are.
The most blaring example of this is the fact that the car sold in the US as the Acura TSX is nothing more than a standard European Accord. Remember, Acura is supposed to be Honda's luxury line. That should tell you something about the difference in quality of the cars sold in the US versus those sold in Europe. -
Ironic..

You wanna Linux solution?
There isn't one. Sorry, but them's the facts.
Right now, the best solution available is from Alpine. By combining these products you can have everything that you want with the exception of the web cam. But, you can hack that yourself.
No, none of these are free. In fact, they are really quite expensive but, it sounds like you want the best so, here it is.
The other alternative is to get another vehicle that already has this equipment installed and beautifully integrated into the vehicle. You will think that you have died and gone to heaven if you trade your Grand Cherokee for an Acura MDX. The vehicle is one of the finest SUVs available and the gadgets are sweet! The navigation system does all that you want, has voice prompts integrated into the mind blowing Bose audio system and your rear passengers will truely appreciate the DVD changer.
