  1. Re:Overblown expectations have hurt Apple more. on Apple to Face iPod Clone Attack · · Score: 1

While I agree, Apple has been pulling some amazing rabbits out of their asses the last couple years and it can't last forever, 2006 will be EASY for Apple to meet product expectations. All they have to do is continue on the measured release of the intel Macs. At some point in the year, throw off a new iPod model. Bing bang boom done. At some point the growth rate for iPod sales will slow, but they have a pretty sweet cyclical market going now. We are addicted to the players. Like any piece of electronics, they and their batteries don't last forever and most iPod users get one to two years life out of each player.

  2. Thank US banking regulations on How To Fight Nigerian Scams as an Honest Nigerian? · · Score: 3, Informative

Basically, US regulations regarding Anti Money Laundering (AML) and the Office of Foriegn Asset Control require you to manually scrutinize each and every transaction that goes in and out of certain geographic regions (including all of Nigeria). I can see where PayPal and others would want to avoid the expense of having a human being look at all the transactions and just disallow them en masse.

I use Adwords to advertise for my company. I'm kind of surprised Geico had to resort to litigation. We have the same issue all the time. Google quickly and efficiently removes the ads that use our trademark when we follow their trademark complaint procedure.

  6. Comfort Levels on When Should You Buy Your Kid A Laptop? · · Score: 1

The more comfortable your child becomes with computers will likely correspond to how successful they are in adulthood. You can see that today. I'm in my mid twenties, so my generation was raised with computers and the internet. The individuals who are adept at using it (meaning they know how and where to find and analyze data) are much more successful and in demand than people who only have rudimentary knowledge of using a computer (meaning can turn it on but require extensive training on all applications thrown at them).

You can find anecdotal evidence for any situation. Anecdotal evidence has a 100% margin of error. The reality is, Mac computer sales are HOT right now. They are experiencing year over year growth of sales higher than any other computer maker. The intel announcement appears to have done nothing to slow their growth in computer sales.

This is the earliest posting I can see on the VN board created shortly after the initial announcement of the game by Mythic. The post dates back to June of 2002. For all intents and purposes, the game has failed to garner much of a following in over three years. I think Mythic was smart to pull the plug on this one. My only beef is that they should have done this much much sooner.

To preface, we here in the US are certainly sending our thoughts and prayers to the UK today. However, I am disappointed to hear that the stock markets are selling off just because of terrorism. This sort of mindless panic is exactly what they are trying to achieve. To truly defeat terrorism, we have to learn to chin up and plod onward with our lives. Ruby on Rails on other hand, will probably be the next PHP. It greatly speeds prototype development on and into live production. It also has built in unit testing and lots of other compelling features. Run through the first Ruby Tutorial here. It will change your thinking on creating web apps forever.
