Re: Oh, they're a big company,
Citations or screenshots please. I have Win10 on three PCs I use all the time and have not seen any of the bs you're talking about.
Is three citations enough? Or do you require more?

How about SuperSu?
This app just popped up on my wife's phone, wanting to update itself. I had no idea what it is, so Googled it... "SuperSU is a Superuser management tool for rooted devices". "SuperSU Brings Better SuperUser Root Permission Management to Android" I still don't have a clue as what I would actually do with such an app. Everything I read about it just leaves me more confused. I have two questions - what is it doing on my wife's phone, that I recently did a factory reset on, and 2.) Would this app somehow allow one to control permissions of apps after installation? http://www.addictivetips.com/m... https://plus.google.com/+Chain...

Re:This.
Tell us more about the special equipment that allows shared sketching.
MS Paint + any screen sharing software.
Or a tablet computer. Here's an Android app that will do it:

I'm sure the iPad has a bunch of them too.

Re:Then why not a Mac?
[...] Gradients, drop shadows [...]
Try this.
A dock and a menu bar that you can't get rid of?
If you can deal with it just being hidden, you can hide it by going to the Apple menu and choosing Dock -> Turn Hiding On. If you want to actually get rid of it, there's this.
The menu bar? Uh...you got me there. But without a menu bar, there's not that much you can do. Kind of like saying, "Why can't I get rid of the Start menu" in Windows.
Animations you can't turn off?
Well, you can turn off window animations, and a bunch more.
Transparency?
You can turn off the translucent menu bar by going to System Preferences, choosing Desktop & Screen Saver, and unchecking the "Translucent Menu Bar" checkbox.
Anything else?

Re:While they're at it
I really wish modern versions of Windows had a painless repair install that would allow end users to keep programs and settings.
Windows 8 has something like it. http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-refresh-or-reset-your-windows-8-pc-complete-guide/

App support on Kindle Fire
I love my kindle fire [...] I'd much prefer to have an iPad for the app support
Kindle Fire runs Android 2 and can install applications from unknown sources. And if you need applications that are exclusive to Google Play Store, there's a package for that too.

Re:And yet in 2012
A *really* crappy OS that is also horribly misconfigured most likely.
Also, you might want to look into setting windows explorer to run as a separate process:
Good luck!

Re:I think it is a fine idea
However on a PC, the desktop should be what you get, Metro should be something you open in it. That way you can run Metro apps if you want, which is cool, but on the terms of a desktop. You can let them run full screen, or not, put them in a window. It'll seem "full screen" to them, they'll just be told that window is their screen.
While it can't do it out of the box, it seems that it can be hacked into working that way. Have you seen Stardock's Start8? There was a story about it the other day. What it does is bring back the Start button, but it doesn't pop up the traditional Win7-style Start menu. Instead, it shows the new Metro home screen - except it does that inside a popup window that's about as big as the old Start menu was.
The next logical step for them would be to do just what you say - let people run Metro apps in movable, resizable windows on the desktop. I hope it works.

Re:My Bionic updated this morning`
For what it's worth, Motorola still claims that it will upgrade the Bionic to ICS eventually. Even the article says so. Not to mention that you can already install a 3rd party ROM.

Re:How about just saying no, when the phone ask?
I also just discovered Permission Denied this morning. It (theoretically) revokes specific permissions from already installed apps. Handy for when you want an app that asks for location permission and such but you know it doesn't actually need it. Whether or not it actually does what it says it does, I don't know...
FWIW, CM7 gives you this ability natively. And you can easily check that its working by disabling net access on an app, and then seeing if you can still access the internet through that app

You can easily use a 3rd party calendar app.

Are rootable phones on prepaid carriers?
Or just getting a rootable phone from the get-go (such as the Nexus *)
I can't really afford $70 per month for phone service, and I imagine that a lot of other people have an entry-level Android-powered phone on a $25 per month plan, such as LG Optimus V or Samsung Intercept, because they're in the same position. The LG Optimus V was rootable as of January 31, 2011, but the article appears not to have any updates as to whether it is still rootable. Are there any Android-powered phones that are 1. designed from the ground up to be rootable and 2. available on a pay-as-you-go carrier?

Re:Hmm...
Android has 350k+ activations a day.
There's no such thing like "x activations per day", unless you define the time period. It's just not reasonable to think such a number can actually be that predictable.
Huh? So when it was said to be 350k activations per day, you missed the time period of a day? So about 350k activations every 24 hours, or to be more specific 14.6k activations per hour, 243 activations per minute or a bit over 4 activations per second.
I can only assume that you actually meant something like between the 00:00 Jan 1st 2011 and 23:59.59 Jan 31st 2011 there were 10.8million activations (not a real stat, I just multiplied up 350kx31) - but this isn't actually that helpful as it boils down to 350k per day..
It would help provide additional information about trending activations but I have no issue with knowing approximate average levels - I mean if you were looking at the stock market it might be helpful to know the level at which a stock is growing (yeah it's not an exact match as constantly climbing stocks don't exist but it's a similar statistical analysis).
But, to actually refute your statement: Of course there is such a thing as "x activations per day", especially as when these are published or the statements are made they contain the words 'about', or 'over' etc - these bound the data provided. Granted the language could be more specific but it's pretty much intrinsic that this is an average and obviously will fluctuate - I wouldn't be surprised by 400k activations on some days and 300k on others, after all shopping levels change on a daily basis, but you can average them out.
The one thing I'd like google to define most absolutely is what an Activation is, they've said that this is new devices being activated but there are still some questions (how do they count people leaving devices behind - they do break and get replaced after all).
But did you really want to know that on day x we have exactly this many activations - I mean you have no idea if that was an up or a down day - rolling averages are your friend when you're looking at overall trends.
On smartphones iOS will be in second place, right were apple wants it. They want to be the up market trendy choice, they are all about image and high price. They want to be BMW, which means you will not see Toyota levels of sales.
Apple doesn't want "second place". They want whatever the most they can get is. Comparing Apple to BMW vs Toyota is not apt, as Android phones and iPhones are similarly priced, with the exception of sometimes highly discounted Android phones, and a few discount models. It's more like comparing Toyota (Apple) to Ford (Android) and sometimes Yugo (low end Android).
I happen to somewhat agree with you - Apple, like RIM or Google, or Nokia or anyone in the Smartphone business would love to be the top dog, having 100% of sales. Since none of them can do that then they different approaches to it, and I'd have to say Apple (currently) isn't aiming to get the world + dog using their devices - hence the aiming for 'second place' remark. This is obvious by the profit margin on the iOS devices (iPhone 4 has 61% apparently http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/apple-earns-61-gross-profit-margin-on-each-iphone-4-sale/) which means that they could probably half the price of the device and stay afloat, it certainly means that a 10% price cut wouldn't hurt them in the slightest and their earnings reports do show that they are making a lot of money. There is no doubt that dropping the price of the iPhone would increase sales, it is an expensive device so it's obvious that they don't want to do this, hence they really are aiming for second place, or at least not panicking about first place.
Personally I don't think this is necessarily a good thing for them, there's

Re:Spinning disks have left this customerSo what - you only log in between reboots anyway
... oops sorry, you're running Windows ... my bad. :-)Seriously, will you be that much more productive now that you have no time to grab a cup of coffee and say good morning to your co-workers? I doubt it.
And you could always help yourself by killing iTunes. Or at least make it run faster

Re:Can some1 answer me why google and slashdoters
heya,
Hmm, you realise that your broken English and silly insults are a dead giveaway that you're a Chinese troll? Lol.
I mean, "a shameless company eating back its own poop". Look, I understand that some things just don't translate well, and I'm sure if I tried to insult you in mandarin, I'd sound like a five-year-old, but do you realise how silly that sounds? Not because of your poor English, but because you provide absolutely nothing to back your arguments up. You just spout random insults, that make absolutely no sense. That, for a fact, is cross-cultural.
And please, if Google left China, you'd have what, Baidu? Sorry, but I have a lot more faith in the engineering prowess and R&D of Google and their search algorithms. You compare Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook with say, the home-grown clones that have sprung up on the mainland. Because that's essentially what they are - clones. They usually try and copy, pixel for pixel, the look and feel of what they're cloning, yet their functionality is usually sub-par.
Case in point, look at Doit.IM. I thought it was a pretty cool program, until I realised it was a blatant ripoff of Things, another GTD program:
https://i.doit.im/
http://culturedcode.com/things/http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/doit-im-free-awesome-software-for-task-management/
See:
Update: Reader BrianC400 notifies us in the comment that this app seems like a ripoff of Things. Since Doit.im is developed by some Chinese developers(who have history of ripping off stuffs), surprisingly it seems 80% similar to Things. Anyways, the good thing is that Doit.im is cross-platform and free while Things cost $49.95 and is for Mac OS X only.
Or look at fanfou.com - look familiar?
