Re:AppleCare is great...
I take offense at that. I'm one of the mentioned "Geniuses" and we pride ourselves on excellent support, business or consumer. The majority of our repairs are completed within two days, and about half are done same-day. None of this "drop the computer off, wait a week or two" stuff. That generally only happens in cases of physical damage to the computer (due to the extensive repairs required) or a part being backordered.
My advice to the OP is to take the computer in to the store (make an appointment from home before going in) and speak with the Mac Genius directly. Explain that you've got a business-critical computer and ask what can be done to get the problem solved quickly. -
It all makes sense.
No wonder there's only been one comment on this entry.
In all seriousness, though...why not just see if you could reach a service like Anonymouse to proxy it, or if you can get to your "American Web Hosting" you could set up your own php-based web proxy. Way easier and more elegant than all that other mumbo jumbo, plus you could reach any other site. -
I want more Lesbian Strapon porno. Details here
Oh she is quite the blonde-on-blonde and blonde-on-brunette kind of girl. Anyone know her name? She is verry stable on the shaft, has a great smile, great skin, and teases as she pleases.
Her radiance is ravishing.
Her stamina is domineering.
And she can take it as well.
Does anyone know her name? I would eat a mile of her shit just to see her prairie-dogg. Wouldn't you too? -
Meet the Oracle of Lesbian Strapon sex!

Re:Well, it works ...
Not exactly complicated? It's not rocket science but without any documentation available it's certainly not trivial. I'm the author of the original "smc-0.01" tool (which all of these GUI's are using) and I spent hours figuring out the AppleSMC kernel extension interface and the data structures involved.
I released the code under the GPL because I wanted to make sure everyone had the benefit of a cool running Mac without having to pay for it. It's unfortunate that certain developers such as miniStat2 and Hardware Monitor blatantly ripped the code and put it into their commercial products, but then it's wonderful to see Hendrik and the other developers respecting the license and producing these wonderful GUI's.
I'm glad so many people are finding the smc code useful. FWIW, there's tons of other stuff in there beyond fan control. My README included several interesting temperature sensors.

Still trusting TOR?
I liked TOR a lot, after it became more easier to use for nerds like me.
However, this confiscation of TOR-Servers does not make me feel comfortable
if I entrust TOR with my personal informations :-(
Another good choice to enhance ones privacy is http://anonymouse.org/
I know this is a little bit like comparing apples and oranges, because Anonymouse
is a web-proxy. However, it is still a good alternative. In oppsite to TOR it is
even more easier to use, it is faster and does not need anything to setup.
Bye,

Re:Idiots QWZX
You said...
Ya, because the World of Warcraft website hardly gets any hits. Yes, it uses Java.. check your cookies for a JSESSIONID. In specific, they're using clustered tomcat (maybe fronted by JBoss)..From the Wikipedia Article...
The game is widely regarded as a success, although its release was hampered by server stability and performance issues which continue intermittently.I am most amused.

Re:Cryptome CN
Yeah, but it is inaccessible within China (probably because it is located outside China, despite the
.cn TLD -- probably in Taiwan). You need http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http:// www.cryptome.cn/ to get to the juicy stuff. Yes, it is that easy circumventing the firewall. -
Re:Justice American-styleWhere I work you will be FIRED for saving the life of a stranger or a co-worker. If you do anything but call for help and then stand there you will be fired. It's in the freaking handbook.
Welcome to america, Corperations own your ass.
It's not the corporations that own everyone, it's the lawyers.
The reason that you, as a gas station clerk, are required to stand passively by and do nothing but call '911' while you, your co-worker or customer is being killed by some nigger, is because if you defend yourselves and rightfully execute said nigger, you and the company you work for will face an army of Jewish "civil rights" shysters. They will work pro-bono for the nigger's "family", and try to drown you with "wrongful death" actions, which will go forward because the legal system is run by kike judges who refuse to throw out such frivolous lawsuits.
They don't call it the http://resist.com/CARTOON%20GALLERY/KIKES/jews_im
a ge19.jpg">Jewdicial system for nothing. We need another Final Solution, one that would make both Hitler and Shakespeare proud.

Re:Somebody will fall for this!Have to agree with the other poster who actually knows what he's talking about. I'm in China and I just loaded FreeBSD and Sourceforge.net with no problem. Perhaps your ISP blocks websites on its own initiative??? That would be wacky.
That said, every person I talk to knows how to get around the Firewall (although I do talk to tech-savvy people). For most people it's easily the most visible side of government oppression, but it's mostly a matter of inconvenience - you go through a proxy, or you go through Anonymouse or something.

Re:um...
I must reply because I find it so hard to agree with that. Were it the case would I not have shamelessly posted a link to my site? All our band have real jobs and make music for fun. We like to share the better results with everyone for free
and also allow them to get ahold of CD's (at no real profit to me - just above cost + shipping). So I find it hard to see how you can call that behaviour 'entitled' ??? Perhaps you could say that of listeners, but not only would I agree with that I would say they _ARE_ENTITLED_ to that attitude because music should be free. I know because I make it. Once you have a real job, a matured ego and a sense of fun you realise that you're not 'special' but you should share your talents with a wider audience because it's free to give away. Very much like open source coding ideology. I think you need to start reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_of_entitlemen t"> here to revise your understanding of that word. -
Super off-topic
Can anyone tell me why this story was rejected:
With Visual Studio .NET 2005 and the .NET 2.0 run-time not even out of beta, Microsoft has released the C# Version 3.0 Specification (doc format) at their http://msdn.microsoft.com/events/pdc">Professional Developers Conference 2005. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vcsharp/future/">New features include SQL-like and XQuery-like query expressions, implicit (on initialization) typing, lambda expressions and more. The primary focus of the language extensions are encompassed by http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/future/linq /">The LINQ Project which aims to bridge the gap between the object-oriented and relational worlds in a simple and type-safe way.
This is news and it is certainly stuff that matters to nerds. The summary is well written, well linked, and unbias. I also did some searching of slashdot and could not find evidence of the story being a dupe (not that the editors would have noticed).
So why was it rejected? -
