Re:We need to stop scapegoating
Now that that's cleared up, we can get back to blaming the NRA and scary looking guns.
Nobody blame the murder machines for people being murdered by them! That's just scapegoating! The real problem (humans) can never be fixed so we should never try!
Wounding patterns of military rifle bullets (spoiler alert: they cause massive damage compared to regular bullets)

Now TSA goons have a new reason to suspect laptops
They've always suspected body-armor — if you have one, you must be up to no good. And laptops always took extra scrutiny of their own — easy to conceal a bomb in one.
Now it is going to be double-trouble for anyone traveling with it...

Re:Dictation
"Funny you should say this, I have a cellebrite tower in my office, also a cellebrite mobile device. It's an amazing machine and only 2 of us know how to use it. Plug it in and it's gonna crack anything. But sad thing is...I've never used it real time. Dealing w too much real time crime to take the time to crack a phone and 99% of victims give us their codes. Now bad guy phones we get warrants for and or tsu (telephone surveillance units ) crack them w their cellebrites. But just letting u know my 30 man detective unit has the capability....bigger guys and bigger fish have even better stuff. And yah I have use stingray and triggerfish way back in 2002. I won't get into those devices"

Re:Yes
As many as you want. Buy the components, get your papers in order, and then build them.
Here's a guy who did it: https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_...
Just because you're stupid and ignorant of reality doesn't mean that reality doesn't exist.

Re: Yes
Can you site a source for that, because I've never seen it? Private citizens owned fleets of warships each armed with dozens of cannons during and after the revolution, and were given free reign to hunt British shipping.
Even if you agree with the more restrictive interpretation of the second amendment, that it only covers "bearable" arms (ie, weapons one person can transport alone), an interpretation that I've never seen any founder's writings suggesting, you must still grant grenades and some other forms of explosive weapons. They are man-portable, and they were available and used in the framers' time.
Grenades are still legal to make, possess, and use today: https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_...

Try as you might, your attempt to come across as a "gun person" fails miserably.
AR15s make wonderful hunting weapons. Many companies make AR15s with specific features chosen for hunting. Here are a couple:

Typically they include a flattop upper receiver, a low profile gas block, skeletonized stocks, and a free-float hand guard. The standard
.223 round is more than sufficient for North American animals up to moose-size when using the proper loading: a 75grain BTHP. And many ammunition manufacturers offer .223 loadings specifically for hunting with an AR15. This is one of many fine examples:
http://www.hornady.com/store/223-Rem-75-gr-BTHP-Match/Additionally, anyone with more than a passing knowledge of guns and AR15s would know that the platform does not only come in
.223. In the last 5 years there has been a surge in popularity of upper receivers chambered in calibers such as 6.5 Grendal, 6.8 SPC and 300 Blackout. Additionally, the venerable .308 has been an option for AR-style guns for almost 50 years. While not being a necessity for using an AR15 to hunt with, these other optional calibers provide longer range hunting options. But if you still believe that it's impossible to hunt with an AR15, please, whatever you do, don't tell the hundreds of people who posted pictures of their hunting ARs along with trophies in these two threads:

They would be devastated to find out that what they were doing was impossible. As far as target shooting goes, the annual National Matches, held at Camp Perry, Ohio every summer since 1907, and widely seen as the Olympics of the shooting sports world, uses.... you guessed it: AR15s. And it's not hard to understand why: they're light weight, ergonomic, light recoiling, and cheap to train with (compared to other competition rifles).
And your claim that an AR15 is worse at self defense than all other things you think it's bad at.... get real! Nearly every SWAT team in the US, and NATO-allied special forces group in the world has moved to the AR platform, and those guys have the money and latitude to choose anything they want. After a brief love affair with various pistol-caliber carbines and bullpups in the late 90's and early 00's, they have almost all gone to the AR15.
There are plenty of semi automatic rifles that are much better suited for civilians - and even military use too but they're too expensive for outfitting an army.
The US Army could replace all of its rifles for the cost of about a dozen F-35s. Cost is not an issue that would hold the army back if there were a better rifle available.
The only reason they are so expensive now is because of the demand from stupid people who think Obama is going to ban them.
AR15s are cheaper today than they have ever been. There are over 100 companies in the US producing them, and a nice mid-grade AR can be had for under $600 today.
The next time you want to appear to be an expert on guns, and then denounce the most popular, most capable, most flexible gun ever made, for reasons that don't stand up to even casual examination, stick to the comment sections at Moth

Re:Why does 3d printing matter
Sure it can -- you can build an AR-15 lower receiver using nothing but a drill press, some drill bits, and an endmill.
Using a slightly different kit, one can do it with nothing more than a basic mill (though a drill press and an XY table would also work).
It's not building the whole gun from scratch, sure, but it's the only legally-regulated part: you can order everything else you need through the mail without any paperwork. If one were building it from scratch then one would definitely need more skills.

Re:Hide from IR cameras on drones.
Not a story, a complete solid and proven fact. Look online for FLIR and emergency blanket to see examples as to how effective this is.

Re:First purchase
Relying on the rounds you're firing to not over-penetrate is a horrible replacement for knowing your backdrop. If you don't have a clear shot, don't take it. "I saw it on youtube" is a horrible plan for defending your family. If you think this link http://www.ar15.com/ammo/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm supports using bird shot for self defense, you have terrible reading comprehension.

Re:First purchase
"And if you're worried about shooting through the walls with an AR-15 you can always use hollow point bullets."
Bullshit. http://thefiringline.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4499511&postcount=7
"Using a shotgun is a double edge sword. The good part is that is doesn't shoot through walls so you're not going to hit anyone in other rooms."
Again, bullshit of the worst kind. The kind that will lead you to kill a family member in a home defense scenerio. http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot3.htm
You need to spend less time watching TV and more time on the range. Read this, test some of your theories on the range, and stop spouting armchair soldier bullshit: http://www.ar15.com/ammo/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm -

Re:Now we'll get privacy
Here is one in stock for $10 less - unlike others, Mako hasn't been price gouging. And they claim they have enough in stock to fulfill orders for the foreseeable future, with no size limit on them etc. Look up for discount codes in that thread, as well (free shipping, among other things).

Here's your real-world example. One of them anyway
Here's and example of a home invasion where a jealous ex-spouse was planning a double murder + suicide. 14 shots were fired and 6 hit the perp and he lived to be prosecuted and imprisoned. The defender was a brand new gun owner who only had owned a handgun for 3 weeks, so you cannot realistically expect everyone to be as proficient with a gun as if they were a Navy Seal or SWAT team guy.
A 3-shot limit is preposterous. The bad guy is not going to stand still and wait for you to get a good aim on him like a paper target.
The 3-round shotgun limit is a federal law for shotgun hunting of migratory waterfowl... put in place to thwart unscrupulous hunters from harvesting entire flocks.
A good defense shotgun needs to hold at least 8 rounds of 12 gauge 3" magnum shells, and you might want to load it with alternating shells of 00 buckshot and slugs. -
87 is the magical number.
Obviously, Harry McCracken must be an ARFCOM'er. I wonder what his screen name there is.

Where am I????
Damn, am I on Slashdot or Arfcom's general discussion forum? It's getting harder and harder to tell anymore. Next thing you know, Slashdot will be using the BFL as an icon.

ARFCOM sticker
No heavy metal stickers....
Just one ARFCOM sticker is all you need.
Nothing say "manly" like an AR-15 boltface!
