Re:That's what Nokia, Moto, and Microsoft said
Volkswagen owns Audi. Audi sells a LOT of luxury cars!

Re:Did I miss something?
You're missing a couple of additional points.
The cost of living in San Francisco is 70% above the national average. So flagging to them still makes that car affordable.
Second the model S is competing for the $40,000 - $60,000 Sedan market. Audi has a great filter where you can set the price and see all their cars in that price range. That is what the model S is competing against.
If you keep up with Tesla you know they also are working on a car that would be at or under $30,000 for their next model. They are going from luxury cars down to consumer cars for everyone. They are hoping that early adopters will finance the cars for everyone else. They are after all a tech company turned automaker, not the other way around. -
Re:Did I miss something?
Yes you missed something. Comparable cars to the Model S would be BMW's, Audi's, etc. Base model Audi's start at $32,000, base model BMW's start at $30,000. The original Roadster was $110,000 and the sport model is toping $140,000. So yeah the model S is more affordable, especially considering it will save you over $4,000 a year in oil and gas charges. And I'm basing that $4,000 a year off my 35 MPG Corolla, compared to maintenance on a comparable car I'm sure it would be more.
I've started saving for my model S. The Corolla is just to hold me over. I hope to have a Model S within 5 years. -
Re:PP is an exciting road
"giving a robot the ability to keep a fast car from skidding/sliding on loose gravel on an off-camber turn appears to me to be a wholly different type of challenge than previous autonomous driving projects."
Actually, that's the easy part. It's called Traction Control, and it's standard on pretty much all cars sold in the US these days. Given that the article mentions how they're using a lot of Audi's electronics and sensor systems, I expect they'll leave these systems in place.
It is true that a good driver is probably faster without the Traction Control, so it would be interesting if they rolled their own that was dialed in for maximum cornering speed instead of safety. -
Re:Less excitingTotal cost is $118K. $98K base price, all options, premium jet black, and I changed the leather seat colors. Also, they charge me $8K for being out of the California area to handle servicing the car.
Tesla hasn't given much details regarding how service is going to be handled, but the only major parts are the motor, the battery system, and the power regulator. Everything else is creature comfort. If something major goes wrong, I can always ship it back to California to be worked on (I'm in Chicago).
I used to own 2 Corvettes (a '99 and an '01), so good luck with getting one. They're monsters =) I wanted an Audi R8 http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/new_cars/Audi_R8.html but went with the Roadster due to it being environmentally friendly.

Re:What?
Have those two NOT been previously combined before, or what?
Yes, they have. Especially in diesels (all those Volkswagen TDI's you see around, it stands for Turbo Direct Injection). The standard engine in an Audi A4 (as well as the Volkswagen Passat among others) is now the 2.0T FSI turbo direct injection gasoline engine. -

Similar yet Different!
While not exactly the intended topic, this is also related to Alternate Reality Gaming which is quite often financed by large corporations with the intent of pushing a specific product, or increasing general the general "buzzworthiness" of their corporate image.
These games are constantly producing high-quality entertainment, without sacrificing immersion. Yet, the product/company behind the project is always in the player's mind.
It's a quite unique and persistent form of advertising in gaming that's starting just now, to really grab the notice of ad agencies and companies.
For examples, check out this new agency that did that www.ilovebees.com thing for Halo 2, or This one that recently did a game called "Art of the Heist" for Audi last year. -
I still think the PhatBox is the best thing going
PhatBox
I know, it's not cheap and doesn't support vorbis files and the manager is Windows only.
But to me the ability to control it through my factory head unit makes that a non-issue.
It does support mp3, wma, flac and audible.
If I wasn't leasing my car I would have gotten one as soon as Audi officially supported and started installing them. -

I bet you drive an automatic too, don't you?
What if it's a CVT? Better performance and gas milage than a manual, yet it's automatic.
I really want one for my next car, but I'm 6'9" and don't fit well in the A4. Need alternatives. :) -
Site not disabled! Only main page is. Look here!
Click here to get to the site map. Only the main index.htm page was disabled. The entire rest of the site is up and running. Just more proof that "webmasters" who took their 2 week course on Frontpage are experts at nothing.

Re:its the same as any other time!Who's to say they didn't just pop another box in here right now on that IP so that if there is any exploits, they won't harm their real content?
Are the people who took down their website because it's a new year -really- going to be intelligent enough to even think of that?
Besides, www.audiusa.com/anything gives you a very nice not found page, with links to their entire site. It's still up. They just changed the main page.
