Re:They'll do it as long as they get attention...
Wealth inequality is the weakest argument possible you could make for the average price of a car, since the poor buy used cars.
And how many EVs do you see at Buy-Here-Pay-Here dealers?
You can drop $5000 on an used all electric today that still has a few years left on it's warranty and charge it at home saving far more in transportation costs.
This is the cheapest used EV I found near me. $5.5k and 40% battery life remaining. What planet are you living on?
You still haven't made a single valid or evidence based claim
Buy an EV if it makes you happy, but it's likely not going to save you any money over simply buying a cheaper, fuel-efficient ICE car. The numbers don't lie.
Plenty, as per the Auto Trader link, since almost all of them are posted by car lots.
Funny that it seems you chose to post the only one being sold by a private seller that didn't so much as a VIN number, in Florida...
Also, fun to see you hick ass dumbasses are still pulling the same, previously disproven data about the batteries, still vastly overstating the cost of batteries and their failure rates, your hick ass thought they where using LI-Ion batteries.

Re:Make up your mind
envisaged... expected to be... can be designed...
Elon has a lot of great ideas and makes a lot of promises. But until an electric truck is sold by the thousands to shipping companies, there's no point bringing it up. Where's the $35,000 electric car that he promised back in 2016? Oh, right, it's actually $50,000.
The railroads should design very low floor flat bed cars. Containers should have a small batter and wheels to "self" drive and get off the road tractor trailer frames and get on to railroad cars and vice versa. The battery should have some small range, like 1 mile at 10 mph.
I don't see how this would be faster than using cranes. Or cheaper for that matter.

Re:Big surprise....
Starting in May 2018, all new cars sold in the US and Canada will have backup cameras. Because of the way car model years work, it's likely that nearly every car on a showroom floor right now already has one. The Trump administration ordered a review of the requirement by the NHTSA, but changing the requirement would require an act of Congress and that did not happen so the mandate is proceeding.

My complaint isn’t with backup cameras. There’s nothing wrong with them. But making the rear window layout such that you can’t see anything useful behind you is a problem that they would not have if not for backup cameras. I can’t find a sedan where my head isn’t buried in the ceiling. When I am a sedan I have to lay my seat back like I’m a cholo cruising in a 64’ impala. It’s ridiculous. I would love a more fuel efficient car. I just want to be able to see through my windows and sit comfortably.

You compare a small niche car enterprise
You mean the company that is outselling BMW and Mercedes in the luxury car market? That niche company?

Re:don't worry guys
The cars have been tested very well and have actually tested better than most competing vehicles.

Re:Uber is dead on arrival
Cars lose most of their value from being driven not from just sitting parked.
Kind of. Cars lose roughly a third of their value when you "drive them off the lot", but that's true even if they are delivered to your doorstep. It's not the act of driving the car, it's actually the act of buying it. This is less true for vehicles which have transferrable warranties., which is most of them, but by the time a vehicle is sold most or all of its warranty is generally expired anyway — especially now, when the age of the U.S. fleet is at an all-time high.
Also, letting a car just sit will ruin a bunch of seals, they will go all hard and then they will leak the next time you get them hot. So yeah, actually, letting a car sit will decrease its value. That takes a while, but it's a real thing.

Re:Here's a great idea...
>Raising the gas tax isn't a great solution, because people with low MPG are often those who can afford it least
Used vehicles 30mpg are plentiful:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars...
If you can't afford your low mpg vehicle, that's a message that you need to change.
I'd much rather live in a country that taxes its gasoline heavily than one that puts GPS trackers in all my vehicles and makes me pay per mile driven.

Re:Bets, anyone?
And yet my Dodge Ram is US body, US engine, US transmission, US tires and made within the last three years.
Safety
In addition to the usual array of airbags, standard anti-lock brakes with brake assist and a stability control system with trailer sway control and hill start assist, certain versions of the RAM can be optioned with a reversing camera and rear parking sensors.
Unfortunately, these safety features didn't help to improve the RAM's crash test performance.
In testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the RAM 1500 earned a Marginal rating for side impact protection and roof crush strength. In all three evaluations, the RAM performed poorly in the side-impact pole rating, with crash test dummies indicating spinal injuries in the 1500 models, and thoracic and abdominal rib injuries in the 2500 model. In terms of rollover resistance, the RAM 1500 and 2500 4-wheel-drive models received a 3-star rating, while 2-wheel-drive models received a 4-star rating.
Reliability
According to Consumer Reports, the RAM pickup has exhibited below average reliability

Re:Thank God
When GM first developed an electric concept car, they named it the "Impact". It's hard to imagine a scarier name for a small, light-weight car.
How about the new Chevy Captiva? Sounds like a vehicle designed for snatch-and-grabs.
Stick a "KDNP-U" license plate on that bad boy, you're good to go.

Re:nope!
Heated mirrors made this practice obsolete years ago.
Hmm, I guess so -- I really forgot about that. My mom's got a car with heated mirrors and even seats as well. Looking around, most cars seem to have that stuff in their luxury package, although not all of them. And like you said, heating up a small camera viewport would be even easier.
I guess I'm just cheap -- I only have to clean the mirrors maybe 8 times during the winter. I sure won't add it on unless it's "free" or comes enmeshed with a somehow must-have package. For me, there are very few "must have" items, and it's got to justify it's multi-year life span. (I don't buy cars every other year; my current one is, hmmm, 16 years old! from new.)
I guess that it's almost time for it's next every-decade car wash, eh? -
Re:Easy
Actually, the Jetta TDI (as well as the Beetle TDI and I believe the Golf TDI) have been in the USA since 2002, if not before. I personally test drove a 2002 or 2003 Jetta (wagon!) with the TDI engine in Georgia. They get about 40-42 MPG. If the guy had taken better care of it, I probably would have bought the car.
Check out sites like Auto Trader if you're interested in buying one. -

I guess they'll be going after Wikipedia, the Massachusetts State Police, and lots of folks on AutoTrader.com. I can't wait to see how this works out for Ford.

Re:Pay-per-view is dead, isn't it?
As far as I understand it, the pay-per-view advertising model has gone the way of the dodo,
It depends on the website and the advertiser. Not all site owners sell all kinds of advertising space. Product placement advertisement is still out there building name recognition.
Im pretty certain the advertisers on these pages paid for the banner space and not just clickthroughs.
http://www.autotrader.com/
and sponsor results here
http://dir.yahoo.com/Health/Pharmacy/
What is funny is abusive advertisements are what get ad servers and the companies domain added to my hosts file. Then if they do show up in a Google search for something I am looking for (example, lost a fuser in my old laser printer and needed a replacement asap) when they do show up in the Google results, the link to their site is now dead. Abuse of advertising puts black marbles in the box.
Did you know X-10 is in my hosts file simply due to the wireless cam advertisements that covered content?
On the other hand, ThinkGeek is whitelisted in support of Slashdot.
Website owners need to know what the impact is when they sell advertising space. Some things are an abuse of the visitor. They may pay well only while you still have remaining visitors. -
Re:wtf?
The Honda's we have owned in the past only survived 75k, 120k and 90k with religious 3k oil/filter changes.
Really? You only made it to 75, 90, and 120,000 miles? You must have really bad luck with hondas.
I can't really say for sure that those mileage figures are accurate, but those people are trying to sell those cars so it's not in their interest to pad the mileage.
Add the sophisticated hybrid option with its limited life batteries and the extra electronics and I can't believe they will suddenly push 200k. Just to many expensive things to go wrong.
As for the hybrids go, here are some listings for the Prius.
Also, aren't those "religious 3k oil/filter changes" similar to the way I "religiously" bathe everyday? You know, standard maintenance practices... (queue the hygiene jokes) -

However, I think that you should get out of your junker and buy my car. That way I can follow in your footsteps and live within my means.

Re:100+ MPG Honda InsightWell, let's do a comparison, shall we?
1994 Geo Metro XFi
1 liter, 3 cylinder, 49 HP
1621 pounds
53/58 MPG (55 MPG combined)
Head Room: 37.8 in. front, 36.5 in. rear
Shoulder Room: 51.6 in. front, 50.5 in. rear
Hip Room: 51.1 in. front, 42.5 in. rear
Leg Room: 42.5 in. front, 29.8 in. rear
Passenger Capacity: 4
Average price: $2,072
2000 Honda Insight
1 liter, 3 cylinder, 67 HP (plus electric motor)
1850 pounds
61/70 MPG (65 MPG combined)
Head Room: 38.8 in. front
Shoulder Room: 50.5 in. front
Hip Room: 48.7 in. front
Leg Room: 42.9 in. front
Passenger Capacity: 2
Average price: $10,658
1988 Honda CRX HF
1.5 liter, 4 cylinder, 62 HP
1819 pounds
45/53 MPG (48 MPG combined)
Head Room: 37.0 in. front
Shoulder Room: 53.5 in. front
Hip Room: 54.9 in. front
Leg Room: 40.8 in. front
Passenger Capacity: 2
Average price: $3,282
As you can see, the Geo Metro weighs only 200 pounds less than the Honda Insight or Honda CRX, has comparable front passenger room, and can carry two extra passengers! It also gets better milage than the CRX, and costs $1,000 less than the (6 years older) CRX and more than $8,000 less than the Insight. So, if the goal is low-cost commuting, the Metro is the best value.

Re:The BMW/MINI Cooper saga.
I haven't had the stumble or "yo-yo" as it's also known in my September 02 build MINI Cooper S ('03 model year). Could be that the right conditions just haven't happened for me. The Raleigh area doesn't use the reformulated (i.e. crappy) gasoline, although we do get high temps in the summer (95F and up).
I am selling my car, however. The MINI is a fantastic car, but I want an IS-300 instead.

No one is threatening to shut down Amazon, please read the article before being stupid. It's more like GM asking its dealers' webpages to link to carprice rather than autotrader because they didn't agree with autotrader's practices.
