Misleading Title
For a balanced view http://business.avn.com/articles/Joone-Points-to-HTML-5-as-Future-of-Web-Content-Delivery-401434.html from the people charged with professionally covering these things. No surprise sensationalism would find its way to

For a more elite cultural critic view, AVN.
It seems that Adult Video Network have outdone themselves as contemporary culture critics... http://business.avn.com/articles/36788.html reads like a Sunday Times supplement, who would have thought?

Re:Nothing new
Wow, Violet Blue gave a talk-- oh, THAT Violet Blue, the one who stole the porn chick's name [1] [2] [3] (note, having a name doesn't mean you own it if someone else gets famous with that name before you, but of course you can outspend them in court anyway!), and later was erased from BoingBoing (eliminating any sense of credibility BB had, and showing they have no problem with revisionist journalism) because she broke up with Xeni [4] [5].

Re:Sure is lots of censorship going on in Europe
Our government bans nothing based on nudity or sex. An adult can freely go and buy all kinds of porn here.
Is that so? Please explain this then.
(Posting anonymously as I don't want to be associated with a certain fetish - think tubgirl - in public. Almost a pity: an on-topic reference to tubgirl should be worth at least an "insightful" mod or two.) -
pr0n
Might not be a very cost-efficient backup solution, but it should help out some small video studios out there. We already have one pr0n producer (CDGirls.com), who plans to burn-to-sell Blu-ray movies in the future. No DRM needed, either

Adult Film
Judging from the wholesale price, I can only imagine that the retail price will be minimum of $30, depending on how high demand ends up. More likely $40-45, at least for new releases. Store cost for most DVDs when I worked at Circuit City was around $1-3 below retail, and it's been 10 years since DVD spec v1.0.
I don't have an HD-TV quite yet, since I haven't had to buy a TV in years, but I'm not sure I'll be willing to buy these movies at these prices, had I one. Especially not until there's a much bigger library than the 50ish that are apparently expected this year.
The real measure of success for the nextgen optical media will likely be the adult film industry (in addition to video game consoles). Everyone talks about gaming, but it would appear that there's going to be a pretty deep divide in consoles.
And Blu-Ray very well may be the winner in the adult film realm.
The adult film maker Digital Playground, which claims to control 40 percent of the US adult DVD market and is reported to have sales of $12.6bn in 2005, today told Adult Video News (AVN) that they've decided to support the Blu-ray format and release movies as soon as hardware becomes available. -

Liberal Democrats?
Here's a great example of the so called leftist Democrats at work again. The other side of the same coin so to speak.
The Republicons always seem to oppose new taxes, but will they oppose this bill? It sure would look bad if they were supporting porn wouldn't it? They "flipflop" quite a bit if you look closely at them. Remember their flipflop on "states rights" and medical marijuana.
Remember when Al Gores wife Tipper was the head of the PMRC and brought us the draconian rating systems on music? It led us down the road to Walmart having it's own version of supposedly bad music.
Remember President Clinton, under whose presidency we doubled our prison population and added 79 new federal death penalties?
This is just another example of Democrats in action. But the article failed to mention that the Democrats also want an "imposition of mandatory, "certified" age verification of adult website visitors" Just imagine the fun Tipper and her friends could have with this one...
AVN provides a much more comprehensive coverage of the new law at... http://www.avn.com/index.php?Primary_Navigation=A
r ticles&Action=View_Article&Content_ID=234443So the next time you hear the some neocon pundit decrying liberal excess, remember they are just the other side of the same coin.

Re:local leftism is the way to save America?Because if I'm living in a state that's wasting my taxes on this broadband, healthcare, and other ridiculous shit, I can just move to Nevada.
Or even better... Utah.
I know you were being sarcastic, but while I was googling Orin Hatch, I came across this. It's Hatch applauding Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for appealing U.S. v. Extreme Associates. Sorry to go off-topic, but why is the justice department wasting money on fighting pornography, and why are people voting these idiots back into office? Anyone that tries to make computer laws without understanding how a computer works has no right to do so. Likewise, any congressmen that doesn't understand the bill of rights has no right to make laws.

Re:logical questionI thought upskirt photos up short skirts are illegal in many communities even in places where people have not secluded themselves.
Looks like the feds may outlaw this too
.5/20/2004
By this law, you don't have to "have secluded themselves", as the parent post suggests - just to have "a reasonable expectation of privacy regarding such body part or parts".
... ban on upskirt photos and other kinds of video voyeurism by cell phone cameras, minicams, and other such technology, passed the House Judiciary Committee May 19.So what happens if someone's wearing a short skirt when the truck goes by?

Re:HD PornIt's here, and it's $15 a "pop".
Spice HD (probably NSFW).
It's nice, way too expensive though, unless you can record it.

Acacia's Patents Outlaws Streaming Video/Audio
Speaking of crazy patents...
Acacia claims numerous patents covering the use of streaming media, such as video files and audio/MP3s, including original content, and is currently targeting the adult industry with thousands of patent infringement legal notices and lawsuits.
Note this issue has nothing to do with copyrights whatsoever...this affects all use of any streaming media by anyone.
Acacia has chosen to target the adult industry first, since they are an easy legal target, but make no mistake, Acacia is targeting everyone who uses, or even merely links, to any streaming media content, including individuals.

Acacia isn't the only company on the prowl...if Acacia is sucessful, there's a whole swarm of other entities that have zillions of other questionable "business method" patents ready to pounce on both industry and individuals alike with their patent infringement claims and manditory licensing for widely used "open" computer formats that they didn't even develop!
