The Blue Scholars have something to say
Ladies and Gentlemen: I give you the Blue Scholars track: Oskar Barnack ~ Oscar Grant -- The salient line in the lyrics is: Shoot the cops - take your camera out your pockets and shoot the cops.

Re:math doesn't add up
That's because those percentages stack.
Personally I would recommend Bandcamp (I'm a customer, not a shill, before you ask), if you don't have the resources to roll-your-own (it's free upfront, no setup or subscription, but takes 15% off all sales).
Actually, some of us are trying to push Bandcamp to move payment processing in house rather than use Paypal, considering Paypal fees, reputation, and all that jazz. Not sure if they will, but it is a thing that I would like.

Re:FLAC
I realize this isn't quite what you're looking for, but bandcamp offers music in in basically any format imaginable, including FLAC. It's mostly smaller artists, but there are a few big names (like Amanda Palmer, for example).

Bandcamp
The site bandcamp offers downloads in FLAC, MP3, and a bunch of others. It's a great resource for indie artists, like this guy:

Some places do do it.

Re:What about...
That's called Bandcamp my friend!

Re:We still buy, but not from you.Try looking around Bandcamp. They offer the option of buying all albums in FLAC. Pricing varies - artists set their prices with a set-your-price system for if you want to give more than the min price.
And hey, the ability to listen to complete albums as much as I felt like led to the purchases that I've made there. Funny that.

Very glad this doesn't affect me
As an independent composer and producer, I'm happy to see that Sony Music are continuing down their path of inevitable self-destruction. Maybe they'll make some cash out of this, maybe not. Heck, if they bother to make the downloads DRM-free (stop sniggering!), they might have a market. Personally, having released an album myself via bandcamp (at http://casimirsblake.bandcamp.com/ - please have a listen if you like electronic music
:), I feel happy that there are easy, and inexpensive options out there for the hobbyist AND professional musicians. It's working for me, and I certainly feel no need or desire to contact a label like Sony. No, I haven't had many sales, but that isn't the point anyway. If I get some, it's a bonus (and thank you very much, it means a lot), but here's the thing: I just want to make and release music. Major labels now seem to exist entirely to rape talent from bands and individuals, and pocket the linings of their shareholders. Contract? No thanks! -CasiB -

Re:(Musical) Electonic Keyboard
Oh, yes, I hadn't even considered an organ. A drawbar organ is a rare find--especially a Hammond, which I bet is tons of fun to play--but it is pretty easy to find full-size electromechanical organs for free, and some of them even work! Similar to a synth, many of them have rows of switches or stops that affect the tone, some effects like vibrato and percussion hits, and if you get lucky like I did, a bult-in rotary speaker. Others have built-in accompaniment that'd teach a young person rhythm.
X, do you put your music online? I recently started uploading my songs to bandcamp. Anyone interested in chillout electronica should give 'em a listen.

Re:Achilles Heel.
Know any good sites that of course will have samples of the music to help guide me?
Jamendo, Magnatune, Bandcamp, Amie Street, TheSixtyOne and Zunior; to name a few.

Bandcamp is fantastic.
