Battlestar Galactica worse Sci-Fi show ever
If it's anything like the "re-imagining" of this show, count me out. No idea why so many people fall for this show. The new BG is below par in just about every aspect of production. Bad casting choices, terrible acting, cheesy sets, barely acceptable lighting, herky-jerky camera work, exceedingly shallow politically correct plotlines and characters, not to mention the barely concealed pro-USA anti-terrorism propaganda agenda in the writing. The only thing this show has going for it is some nice CG effects, but those are usually cut together in such an amatuer, MTV-style fashion that the viewer never really gets a chance to become immersed in any of the shots. Sometimes episodes have no space battles or spaceflight of any kind, and the show devolves into nothing more than a soap opera on the bridge of a spaceship. If the original plan to do a continuation of the original series created by Bryan Singer and Tom DeSanto had gone forward, the show, and subsequent spin-offs probably would have been very watchable and entertaining. As it is now, the show has no soul, because it's nothing more than a hijack of someone else's great concept.

Ill Throw my 2 cents in
These are my favorite in no particular order:
Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Next Generation, Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica (2004), Andromeda, and Tripping the Rift -
Re:Richard Hatch?
He does seem to have put a lot of work into it. His site and his other site

How strange...Well, I thought it was pretty bad too. But I find the outpouring of Galactica bashing to be very strange. Sure, it had a ripoff premise, bad writing, mostly bad acting, and of course bad science. But every space opera I've seen on the big or little screen had some or all of these. But if you bash Star Wars (at least the first trilogy) or Babylon 5 on Slashdot, somebody will spring to its defense, citing imaginary literary element or "suspension of disbelief". But not for BG. Very curious.
Especially since there are a lot of people there who are pretty fanatical about the original series. They're fairly pissed about this remake and have made a lot of noise in support of a sequel instead.
Of course, there's no chance that anybody except these same fans would watch a sequel of any kind. But hey, since when did fans care about stuff like that?

Re:hmm
Not likely, 90% of the fans were already planning on not watching, and sci-fi (and everybody involved) knows it. The Battlestar Galactica buletin at the sci-fi channel is full of complaints, "I am not going to watch because...", and leaks about the re-imagining of the series. The re-imagining is based off of the Battlestar Galactica movie, and all changes were made based on the so-called flaws of it.
In fact most of them are planning on boycotting anybody who advertises during the mini-series. It's a poor script, and Ronald Moore has a lot of sexual issues (he turned Battlestar Galactica into a soft-porn flick).
I hang out at the Sci-fi Board for Battlestar Galactica. There is very little support for this re-imaging on the boards. In fact, a couple of people started to fabricate A LOT of personalities to generate support for this re-imaging. In fact it pissed off Mr. Moore (Mr. Mooron) that he wrote a note on the web telling the people to knock it off.
I doubt there are a lot of people that will watch it. The only resemblance it has to the original is it's name.
Most of the characters in the re-imagine have major problems and can't be considered heros anymore. Starbuck and Boomer are Females now (just for the sake of the femist cause!)!!! The cylons were made by humans and now look like humans. There is no longer 12 planets with 12 colonies. There is 1 planet with 12 colonies that are technophobic. Baltar doesn't betray the human race on purpose (so he can rule his people). He is seduced by a female cylon.
That just the high-lights. Check out BattlestarGalactica.com and search for the miniseries articles, and check out my earlier comment for more information. -

Where have you people been?
This news is at least a year old! This is the 25th Year Anniversary of the original series. This is just a mini-series. This is going to suck! Nobody likes what they have done. There are SEVERAL petitions to stop this from airing! The fans and Richard Hatch (Appolo from the series) have been trying to get a continuation of the original series. Richard Hatch has written 4 books continuing the saga. This site is a great place to get the information on the new mini series.
Where to start. There is no more 12 colonies on 12 planets. There is 12 colonies on 1 planet. The cylons weren't created a reptilian race. The cylons were created by the humans to fight each other. All the characters are pale shadows of themselves. Anything that made them look and act like a hero is gone. Starbuck & Boomer are both now woman. Mr. Moore turned this once great show into a social propaganda engine. Don't expect this to be anything like the original because he is basing this on the the original Battlestar Galactica movie which was the first few episodes of the show and does have a lot of the character development. -

Re:well.
Your theory that life originated here on Earth is well-stated, thoughtful and completely wrong. Life did not originate here, as commonly suspected, but arrived here on a rag-tag fleet of starships a few thousand yahrens ago.

True geek drink is...
...a Caramel Frappuccino from Starbuck's. I believe Starbuck himself enjoys one after a hard day (night? does it matter in space?) fighting with Apollo against the tyranny of Lucifer, Baltar and the evil Cylons.

Galactica
The latest announcement has gotten fans of the original Battlestar Galactica more than worried since it's speculated that the new series is going to be more or less "Battlecreek 90210" ignoring basically everything from the original. This is despite the fact that a petition has over 14000 signatures in support for the original cast and themes. Recently a new one has been created with a more strict tone.

Re:Battlestar GalacticaThough it's not specifically devoted to the new incarnation that Brian Singer is putting together, BattlestarGalactica.com has been at the center of keeping BSG fandom alive for years now, in conjunction with actor Richard Hatch (who played Apollo, not the Survivor guy).
Note that though the new show guys are making noises about how they're going to be faithful to the original, and feature some of the original characters, they still haven't cast any of the original actors yet . .

Hatch is Still In the RunningRichard Hatch is still trying, and still has hope. He has a brief trailer that he's made on credit cards and lunch money, and he shows it at conventions--he showed it at VisionCon here in Springfield, Missouri earlier this month, and also the previous year when he and Jack Stauffer were both con guests.
I don't know about what happened in Luxembourg--I wish I'd heard about this pre-con, so I could have asked him about it--but the rights thing over Galactica is such a huge mess that, if it was more than a couple years ago, I'm not surprised, and I really wouldn't blame Richard for it. Apparently Glen Larsen discovering that he had some residual rights to some elements of (but not all of) the show via the episodes he wrote knocked the whole thing into a cocked hat, and nobody knew exactly who had what rights anymore. Hatch has been trying the best he can to get the whole thing ironed out, and it will be interesting to see what comes of this new wrinkle. One thing's for sure--Hatch's fans can swing a lot of letter-writing power. Call it a "snail-mail Slashdot effect." The Sci-Fi channel abruptly dropped their plans for a Galactica update last month--though I'll admit it might have been due partly to Singer's sudden interest in the franchise.
As far as creative vision is concerned, Hatch is clearly no duffer. He's actually written--and I don't mean Shatnerly-ghost-written, I mean written--a trilogy taking Galactica into the future, and the storyline of that trilogy is roughly the way the new show would go.
The trailer is really slick, with some great footage (albeit perhaps a bit of overacting), a special appearance by Lorne Greene, and CGI done by volunteers that looks incredibly polished. There's one shot of a Viper zooming through an open tunnel in one side of a starship and out the other that never failed to elicit gasps of awe from the audience. It's amazing how slick and polished it looks--you'd swear it was from a finished product. Hatch tells stories of screening it to studio execs who were sort of embarrassed going in, expecting to see someone's home video, and then had to pick their jaws up off the floor when it showed.
There are some still frames from the trailer on the BattlestarGalactica.com website, but due to SAG rules (having to do with the actors actually having to be paid and stuff), they can't put the whole thing online or otherwise make it available. So they screen it at cons.
Hatch has always expressed a willingness to work with whoever got the rights--even Larsen, though Larson rebuffed him (and Larsen's involvement with the Singer version doesn't give me a whole lot of hope). Hatch can also swing most of the still-alive original cast--even the reclusive Dirk Benedict. All he wants is to ensure that the new series has the same things that kept people watching the old series--the original cast in their original roles. All the other proposed BSG projects have been planned to focus elsewhere--on other elements in the BSG universe. Hatch can understand that the studios might prefer to swap in new faces, but all he wants is that there should be a segueway from the old to the new, with more than lip service paid to the original. One of his great fears (and mine, too) is that they'll do a recast and remake, a la the Lost in Space movie that Bill Mumy lobbied for and was then shut out of.
The problem with Hatch, as I imagine the "suits" in charge of studios see it, is that he's a starry-eyed dreamer, with a Vision. That so overshadows the other aspect of him--his business sense, and ability to make much out of limited resources--that it's no wonder the suits get scared. After all, other dreamers with creative vision in the past have made major holes in studio pocketbooks--just look at Kevin Costner.
Still, the open letters and interviews posted to the BSG site lately do give me hope, especially the fandom.com interview with DeSanto in which he says he respects and admires Hatch for keeping the fandom alive and would like to see his trailer. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
(Another trailer Hatch showed at the con was his new project, The Great War of Magellan . This one is also an unfinished teaser, but the storyline looks promising and it has quite a few interesting faces in it--Hatch, Jason Carter, Brad Dourif . . . have to wait and see what develops there, too.)
