    Stand on the street and sell weed. You would make a lot of money. Yes, it's true that if things go badly you end up in jail. But if things go badly in Iraq, you end up dead.

    Try your idea in any midsized town in the US and see how long it takes for the local street power structure (Crips, Bloods, Latin Kings, local gangs, etc) to pop a cap in your ass and take your weed and your money. You wouldn't last 30 minutes. Go back to playing Dope Wars...

    Beermat Software make a windows version of this game called Dope Wars that features a World ranking ladder for all you aspiring drug dealers.

    You can even join or create your own drug cartel (free registration req.)

    IIRC each game score generates a unique number key, that when submitted to their site, is translated back to your score and entered into the ranking table. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Still, I prefer the older non-ranking dos versions or for some added depth try Pimp Wyld

    This one actually exists. Travel around town, buying and selling illegal drugs, run away from the cops or try to kill them with your gun. See how much money you can make in a month. A free Windows version is available from Beer Mat Software. Politically incorrect but a lot of fun.

    It was the sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, which was extremely popular. You're showing your age -- or rather, your youth.

    Wolfenstein, OTOH, was chiefly publicized through word of mouth. I don't remember ever seeing an ad for it before I played it. It benefited, however, from being based on an extremely popular 2D shooter called Castle Wolfenstein that ran on the Apple II, AT/XT, and possibly other platforms. I played it on a IIc.

    There are games which are publicized mostly through word of mouth and get decent distribution -- GLTron and Dope Wars come to mind. Of course, Dope Wars is, again, based on an older MS-DOS game...
