Re:It's not a war!I would suggest Haiku as filling the role of thin, small, and unobtrusive.
Or better yet; clean, efficient and intuitive.
I recently wrote about some future distribution ideas for Haiku. Please check it over and tell me what you think.

Re:Mirror! If by Connection Pooling, you mean this:
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTrai ning/Programming/JDCBook/conpool.htmlthen I think this qualifies:
http://nl.php.net/manual/en/features.persistent-co nnections.phpI use persistant connections in my php programming all the time, and the difference in impact on the server is quite noticeable.
To combine your reply and the other reply at the time of this writing, here's a timely (coincidental) bit of news...
Java is coming to BeOS. Read more about it in an interview I posted recently.
Enjoy.

Re:Review of Zeta Beta 5 on beosjournal.com
The correct url for the Zeta Beta 5 preview that The BeOSJournal did on June 3, 2003.
Thanks go to Daniel "Daat" Teixeira for doing the preview when he worked for us. He now runs IsComputerOn and is expected to deliver a review of the upcoming retail version of Zeta. -
"Multimedia OS" was marketing's idea
If I remember correctly, the original BeOS was suppose to be a highly multithreaded OS designed to excel in multimedia applications.
It was designed to be fast, easy to develop for, and fun to use. The multimedia focus was a marketing move, with the introduction of the Media Kit in R4. And we all know how well that turned out:Q : Anonymous : What plans did Be have to improve the media kit [..]?
A
: zero. it was a bad idea from the begining and the time spent developing it helped sink the company. -
Interface widgets
I really like the hierarchical menus; they actually indicate where a complex selection begins and ends. Very nice detail.

I wonder...

Re:ReviewThe BeOSJournal has an interview up with the creator of HipTop Nation, which is THE top website devoted to these HipTop devices.
Just thought people here might like some insight into the world of a HipTop user.

They sound like they should be taking notes from beunited.org
The BeOSJournal recently spent over 2 hours in the second part of an ongoing interview that outlined the future direction of the non-profit organization.
BeOS may be dead, but openBeOS is alive and well, and with the help of beunited.org, will start to achieve many great things.
It would be great if both groups started a relationship that would surely benefit everyone involved. It's through open communication and a willingness to sit down at the table that anything positive is going to be done.
I'm not trying to bash the Linux Community at all, please understand, but I feel it's in our best interest to help each other, when the giants that we all love to hate (such as M$, IBM, and others) won't sit idly by while their market erodes in front of them.
That's all I'm saying. Take a good hard look at what beunited.org is up to, and see if that will help you any. Thank you. -

Re:Christopher Reeve
People seem to think that their bodies do not belong to them, for some strange reason. (to me.)
It's like it's against some spiritual and holy sacrament to give blood to another person, consider donating organs, or even contemplate growing body parts from cells for various medical reasons.
What's wrong with prolonging our species a little bit to ensure a healthy future?
As an aside, I find it striking that as I read the days's news lately, and discussions about humanity's future, I can't help but recall tidbits from Star Trek's "Universe" and where we would be if not for the fertile imaginations of people who thought outside the box.
Call it what you will, but ideas and experiments in moderation are not unholy, in my eyes at least.
And with that, please have a nice day. ;)

Why don't you log in intead of posting this anonymously?
No one sex is better than the other. We're all human, of the same earth, and have to live with EACH OTHER.
I understand it must be difficult to be conscripted as a male, legally, and see what must be (in your eyes) a disgrace of letting women in Singapore get away with living well.
But here's the equalizer. Woman are the only ones capable of childbirth. You state that it's not compulsary... What about rape? Do you think she wanted the child after having been raped?
The standard checks and balance system of old still works. Woman give birth, men defend them. Woman take care of the home, men work.
I'm not saying that it has to be so cut and dried, but it's a system that has worked for a very long time.
While it's interesting that woman are allowed to vote and are still not compelled to serve their country as a male is, I still find it on the whole unfair to both sexes, not just to males.
Woman have been abused for most of the written history of humankind, both physically, mentally, and spritually. It's tine for that to change, and allow both sides to work together for the common good.
I repeat. We're all here on the same planet. Let's not waste our time here quibbling with minor technocalities.
