Nokia offer WebGL maps
Nokia has a WebGL version of their web maps which has a Google Earth like functionality to it. While they don't label many places initially the search seems to recognise names of towns which are then labelled on the map and there are things like 3D buildings in certain locations (e.g. London). The regular Nokia Maps offers a more complete solution at the moment but it's surprising to see a web mapping solution that isn't Bing or Google especially using new web technologies (to the best of my knowledge Google are the only other ones using WebGL to serve up their maps).

I don't mean the bang command, I mean the literal character... You can search special characters in DuckDuckGo, ones that are ignored by other search engines...
For ":wq" that would search up the literal string ":wq", which is the Vi command for Writing and quitting, on Bing though, it ignores the ":" and only searches up "wq", so you get results like the Wikipedia article for "Water Quality" and other acronyms that it could stand for.

A lot of my searches are for research papers, and the difference between the main Google and Bing is barely noticeable at all. Both get quite a bit of link-farm and paywall noise. However, Google Scholar is superior to everything else.

Proposing a simple scoring mechanism with the score being the number of papers (PDF and PS files) actually linked to in the first page of results:
google.com - score 5
bing.com - score 4
scholar.google.com - score 8
I have mentioned this search term ("extended compact genetic algorithm") before about articles related to google and bing. Pretty much every time a Google vs Bing article comes up, I fire up this search on both to see how things have improved or gotten worse. Regular Google used to be a lot better, and Bing used to be a lot worse. I only add google scholar to show how good things might actually be if these sites stopped allowing pay-walls at the top. -

I was onto THAT, years ago (and before that too): It's PROS out there "hacking/cracking" into you, not just "kids having fun" etc./et al:

If it's so obvious, why has nobody yet done it with more than 5 years of smartphones on the market.
Actually, my Nexus S (which is already a two year old model I think) has been doing this ever since I can remember.
In fact, that's probably why Microsoft used the word "whack", and not "shake" or "move". If they had used any of those other words, a simple bing search (yes, even a bing search I tell you) would have uncovered multiple instances of prior art on both Android and on the iPhone.
No doubt, they'll try to use this little play on words in their commercials to say how unique the feature is, and how they're the only one who have it because they patented the idea.
