Re:Xenon vs Xeon
I'd have to say Speedball and Speedball 2 were the best games to come out of the Bitmap Brothers. I thought the Chaos Engine games were pretty fun too. And of course had that distinctive graphic look.
Speedball still lives on in GBA and Pocket PC forms.
Interestingly, while we are on the topic of Xenons - there is a downloadable Xenon 2000 game at the Bitmap Brothers website:
Xenon 2000
Looks like something they put together for the UK PC Format magazine. -
Re:Mac OS Xbox 360?
Personally I'm hoping for a pile of old Amiga titles, so I can play Xenon on the Xenon...

Why real sports games?A lot of posters have pointed out that whoever has to play the less glamorous roles in the team would have little fun, which I can certainly understand. However, I can also see how the whole career development side of such a game would be a lot of fun and certainly rewarding, at least to a certain demographic. The concept certainly has the potential for containing all the traits of a typical MMOG: stats development, levelling up, long periods of bashing out horseshoes, etc.
I suggest that the easiest way to resolve the problem of the boring team positions within football, hockey and so on is to create a MMO sports game but replace the real-world games with fictional. For example, Speedball.
OK, obviously it would need to a different game, and certainly be in 3D, but this would seem to have the necessary attributes: the positions in the team are balanced; it's fast; tactical; requires team work; and by Dog is it fun !

Re:Speedball 2
Looks like its been out on GBA since 2001. I'm buying this tommorow.

Re:Speedball 2What, you mean like this? Ok, its on the PSone, but it looks like its still the old game, but with updated graphics.
The most worring thing, is that the Bitmap Brothers site hasnt been updated since May 1st, 2003. However they mention "Speedball Arena" there as being in production.
After a quick look around, it looks like theyre converting the recent Namco title "Kill.Switch" for PC, so they dont appear to be totally dead... which is nice.
Looks like I wont be seeing Gods or Magic Pockets on GBA for a while... damn.

Xenon? What About Megablast?"GameGossip are claiming may be called the 'Xenon', according to a job posting on Microsoft's website."
I hope Microsoft have checked with the Bitmap Brothers regarding that name, otherwise they're likely to get shuned by anyone with any respect for vertically scrolling shooters.

A blatant "Speedball" ripoff...
They sound like a bunch of uncreative asshats who've basicly done a 1st person version of the old 3rd person perspective game Speedball.
Not only should they be disqualified for copying the idea, they probably deserve a good cease and desist letter from the Bitmap Brothers. -
Hmmm. Souinds vaguely familiar....
Computerized ball game with great violence, injuries to players. Hmmm.
Sounds familiar. -
Xenon 2000 - bitmap brothers classic -updated,free
Xenon 2:Megablast is another you might remember. Well they updated it for a pcformat tutorial on gaming, and finally released the program for download: Xenon 2000. dont hold them to getting the tutorial info online though, it took 2 years of "next month"'s to get the program itself.

Re:What games?
Bitmap Brothers made it. Its kinda old, one of the last commercial dos games, but there's a new full 3d sequel in the works. Its an RTS where there's no building construction, only flags you capture to take over all the buildings within the sector. Each building makes units, defences, or works as radar or repair. Each sector you have also boosts the speed of your individuation construction buildings. The game is all one non-stop rush, as you have to try and conquer territory quickly or you'll fall behind your opponent in unit construction.
