Re:CmdrTaco drags big brass ones along the ground
Apple themselves know they are competing with netbooks. Or as they like to say it "better" than a netbook. Quoting:
10:10AM "We think we've got something that is better. And we call it the iPad."
10:09AM "Now some people thought that was a netbook -- the problem is that netbooks aren't better than anything!" Big cheers! Ha! - slide
It is a shame the iPad isn't better than anything either Steve.

I'm pretty sure those were just the mockups. Here's the real thing: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/screen-grabs-linksys-internet.jpg

Re:Step 1.
Like just about every other modern politician, Reagan used teleprompters every time he gave speeches. That's not a bash against Reagan. It's just how things are done.
Top two Google image results for 'Reagan Teleprompter'....
State of the Union 1988
Some Televised Speech (looks like a much older model)If you want to define "gifted orator", as someone who can give a good speech from memory, you'll probably need to cross the Atlantic and watch British politicians in parlament. By the British standard, the last gifted orator we've had in the oval office was William Jefferson Clinton, and ironically, he studied at Oxford...in Britain.

Re:Exactly.
The Wii has a special slot-loading drive
That's what I was concerned about. Most CD tray drives have a special smaller indent for the smaller CD's, but auto loading slots don't normally take them. I'm glad you told me, there were a ton of Game Cube games my wife wanted that I didn't get because... No game cube..
I've had mine apart and it's pretty smart how the extra arms coax the GC discs in. I found this picture but when you see it with a GC disc in, its quite a smart system.
The Wii is an excellent console for the support it has for N64 controllers, etc. Glad I waited, you can pick up GameCube games *fairly* cheap now, but they're clearly still popular. -
3G adapter is built in
Why do nearly all new sites and the slashdot summary all say "no 3G connection built in" when Steve Jobs so clearly talked about the 3G version of the device and even showed a price list of what it would cost? Have I somehow got the wrong end of the stick? Do you need an external adapter??

Re:Pricing announced
Ummm, no. Mb is accurate.

Re:No flash support
Yep, this picture (http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/apple-creation-0128-rm-eng.jpg) pretty much spells it out.
The fact that they didn't even try to hide this during their usually precise demo of the product is surprising.

Re:Avatar did not address the uncanny valley
I think your theory is right. This image looks particularly wax-figury. I got that vibe from the whole movie. CG-ing up live-shot images is a good way to get around the actual CG stuff looking different from the rest.

Re:Goodbye to the ThinkPad brand.
The regular T and X series are staying as they were[...]
Wrong. (I realize the X100e is positioned more along the lines of the Edge and SL models, but if Lenovo considers the changes viable, they'll most probably expand them to affect T and X2/3 series, too.)

Re:Mopeds have pedals...
To me, it looks closer to a moped than a motorcycle, performs (70cc displacement, 40 mph top speed) closer to a moped (50cc displacement, 35 or so mph top speed) than a motorcycle (125+cc, 100+mph) and seems more similar in cost ($855) to a moped ($$2000).
Duck typing tells me it's a moped.I don't mean to disdain it; used within it's scope (commuting a couple of kilometres through a busy congested metropolitan area) it's probably superior to a fully-grown motorcycle, but I don't see where, how or why it should be one.

Re:I wonder if any of the 11 hugged him back....
Seriously. There's the achievement you definitely get for hugging a dead enemy (screenshot: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.wowinsider.com/media/2008/09/wowscrnshot_090108_234205.jpg its the highlighted one) Details: http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=247 Then there's the achievement for hugging every animal in Azeroth. No, I'm not kidding. "To all the Squirrels I've Loved before" http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=1206 and its sequel "To All The Squirrels Who Shared My Life" http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=2557

New Camaro is, but the Challenger looks better! The new Camaro has some design issues that really irk many people. One is the 'Joker' front end that looks like a big, stupid, Cadillac CTS on acid. The second is the rear sheet metal. It looks like the design team just quit, and it doesn't look good at all. The third are reports of super bad visibility, and a cheap interior.
That is why I love my Challengers more and more. They have the great lines of inspired design, and while there is always something faster out there, you can't outrun ugly. Here is a nice image comparison of a Challenger and a Camaro: Challenger and Camaro via autoblog. Yet to each their own. At least we live in a day and age where all three historic cars are available at the same time: The Dodge Challenger, Camaro, and Mustang. If you want one you better get one quick though. As the new CAFE standards are implemented these cars will likely go away by 2012. It is 1972 all over again. My SRT8 Challenger gets fair mileage. My R/T Challenger got 26mpg on the highway. I think the Camaro's are comparable. And thank you editors for posting a car story! I love cars.

Re:I work in he rental industry
720p and 1080i at 13 feet from the 42" tv is NOT VISIBLE.
Yes it isi very visible at the correct viewing distance, but most people dont do that. Most homes are set up wrong and they sit an insane distance from the set..
42" 1080p set? get your face 6-8 feet from it.
Want a chart? then here...

Get your face closer to the set, having it 15 feet away above the stupid fake fireplace is not where it belongs.

Wow, does that article suck.
I had an XBOX360, and I had a PS3. Sold both a while back when I realized I hadn't played a console game in over six months.
I don't have a vested interest in this article. I don't measure my self-worth by what strangers think of my choice in consoles. I don't give a damn about the RROD, or about the E74 error.
However, I hate stupid articles like this one.
Everything you need to know about the worth of this article is contained in this chart
Lovely, isn't it? And no, the numbers aren't "in thousands". They're talking about reports over the last year going from 3 per month to 15. That's not failures - that's "emails to joystiq.com". It's worse than useless.
Did the emails spike because owners are, in fact, seeing spiking numbers of failures? Did the spike occur because some other site mentioned it with a link to related materials on joystiq.com? Did the emails say if the failures occured this month, or if some people were reporting failures from a couple years ago?
Al Gore would most assuredly approve of that chart.
They point out that their "little study" isn't perfect, and that it's unscientific, but then they say, "as we interpret the data...". Of course that data is statistically insignificant and hopelessly flawed.
If you're going to start beating the drum on something like this you should get your shit together in advance. Otherwise you're going to look like an idiot.
That was my first trip to joystiq.com. Probably my last, too. -

Re:Namespace collision
Incorrect. Chromium is the name of the open source project under which the browser is developed. "Google Chrome" is a browser from Google based on the Chromium source code. You can see this explained very clearly in the screenshot here. It's like the difference that used to exist between Mozilla and the Netscape browser.

Re:So,no more DRM
I think the tiered pricing doesn't go into effect until April-ish...
I also misread the slide from the keynote that gave me that idea. Apparently they were just talking about how up until now (for the last 6 years), songs have been 99 cents, and now they will be $.69, $.99, and $1.29, all at the discretion of the labels, although they have said that there will be more $.69 tracks than $1.29 tracks. -
New bezel = the sux0rz
Is it just me, or did they increase the bezel on the Macbook Pro by like 30-40%??
