    The main point was scientific theory != "this idea I had when I was in the pub". Anyone loudly proclaiming "evolution is ONLY a theory" really needs to go read up on what being a theory really means.

    Mr. Senator,

    Given the statistical evidence, at least in this country, it would seem to me that protecting children would be *best* accomplished by banning the Roman Catholic Church. Roughly 4% of all priests have been accused of sexual abuse, a far, far, far higher rate than the number of pedophilia oriented websites.

    Note: I'm not seriously proposing banning the RCC. I'm merely pointing out *if* you were protecting the kiddies, what train of thought you should be following.

    Gravity is also a field that has both a magnitude and direction since it creates action.
    Gravity is most certainly not some field. The standard model of physics allows for virtual particles that mediate the forces, which provides suitable explanation for how the force works rather than some simple field-based interpretation-- in the case of gravity there might be gravitons(*), and in the case of electromagnetic interactions there might be virtual photons. There is no all-knowing permeating field that is distributed throughout the universe. Due to the likes of scifi, my personal understanding of 'fields' has been hindered by thinking of "force fields" that block laser weapons (hah) which is definitely not what these fields are like.

    Allow me to clarify: fields do not physically exist. However they are our own mathematical constructions. They may explain nothing of the nature of the force and interactions, but they are actually quite useful to determine magnitudes, directions, etc. Ironically, in another post I mentioned to somebody that "fields are not aether," when Maxwell actually came up with his theory of electromagnetism based off of aether-tubes as the field lines. He later decided to drop the aether-tubes interpretation and to accept purely the mathematics. Harsh of him? Anyway, gravity is not a field, but so far the results of its interactions can be predicted via field theory.

    (*) 'Might be' is rather strong in this scenario. Virtual photons have not been observed, though acting as if they exist has proven tremendous success in quantum electrodynamics. Yet, we do not know how to make gravitons work as the mediator of gravity in our calculations, so 'might be' is not too far from any truth.

    Well, yeah, there's that. And there's also the fact that Sony always bullshits us on hardware specs, while Nintendo is honest. Nintendo gives real world numbers, and Sony gives "theoretical" (ie bullshit) numbers. To back that up, check out this spec comparison. Now, seeing as how the specs are similiar (contrary to your claims), how does the PS2 pull of 6-12x the polygon count of the Gamecube? That's right. It doesn't.

    You should stop drinking the Sony kool-aid.

    I am reminded of the stickers that one district mandated on books. Now of course, if you had stickers that recommended questioning everything, including your politicians, etc. you would likely be raising a generation of subversives.

    We can't have that kind of thing going on now, can we?

    Why do you think this requires GHz to do?

    There's nothing that says amount of work CPUs can do must scale with (and only with) clock frequency. Eg, Ancient SGI O2's can do real-time MJPEG PAL or NTSC encoding, despite clocking between 175 to 400MHz. Ok, the encoding is done on a seperate dedicated chip (a 66MHz clocked 128bit SIMD vector unit)[1], but with todays transistor budgets no reason that kind of functionality couldnt be integrated into a CPU (already has to an extent - the various SIMD instruction extensions for PC CPUs).

    2) Not true. Christian teaching is that sex is a gift from God, and cannot in itself be sinful, but it is sinful to indulge yourself, to the exclusion of God. Never mind the psalms, read the song of songs.

    3) hardly a basic or core belief, but prove it never happened, and that it was meant literally, which you must do say it is "bunk"

    Lots of people have said this about PS2 - you cannot just sit down and code away and expect high speed programs as a result. You have to plan and design your code around the hardware and that requires insight into how the machine works."

    This isn't part of the original Biblical text. The oldest Greek manuscripts that include it are from around 1200 AD or so. This started out as a comment written in the margins of the Bible that eventually got incorporated into the text of some manuscripts.

    So where is the equally explicit verse or verses showing the sinlessness and assumption of Mary? Where is the equally explicit verse showing prayers to the dead?

    Well, as I've asked many times, where in the Bible does it say that all Christian teachings are to be found in the Bible?

    In any case, as far as Biblical allusions are concerned, I've already addressed the sinlessness question. With regard to the assumption, since the Ark is a type of Mary, the following could refer to her assumption:

    Psalm 132:8
    Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.

    Concerning asking the saints for prayers, there are various verses in which Christians are asked to pray for others. We are all members of the Body of Christ, and death doesn't change that. The saints in heaven would pray for us, their brothers in Christ, just as readily as we do, or even more so.

    There is archaeological evidence that the early Christians asked the saints in heaven to pray for them. In the catacombs of Rome, there are many requests for prayers from the saints carved into the walls:
