Hosts do tons more than adblock for less
Can adblock+ do 16 things hosts do 4 speed, security & reliability:
1.) Protect vs. bad sites (past ads)
2.) Protect vs. fastflux botnets + stop C&C talk
3.) Protect vs. dynamic dns botnets + stop C&C talk
4.) Protect vs. DGA botnets + stop C&C talk
5.) Protect vs. downed DNS (4 reliability)
6.) Protect vs. DNS redirect poisoning
7.) Protect vs. trackers
8.) Protect vs. spam
9.) Protect vs. phish
10.) Protect vs. caps
11.) Get past dns blocks
12.) Keep off dns request logs
13.) Speed up surfing (adblock & hardcoded favs)
14.) Works on anything webbound multiplatform.
15.) EZ data control
16.) Block ads better vs. addons more efficiently* ANSWER ="NO" on ab+ doing it as well or @ ALL + hosts = on devices natively.
APK
P.S.=> Ab+ does less vs. hosts less efficiently - hosts do MORE w/ less + Hosts start w/ IP stack before REDUNDANT inefficient addons BEGIN operation (as 1st resolver).
---
Ab+'s a 128-151mb memory hog http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-conte... (hosts use 3-11mb w/ my program initially). Even FireFox 41 adblock eats 65++mb http://www.ghacks.net/2015/06/...
---
ClarityRay defeats it seeing addons via native browser methods!
---
Ab+'s bribed not to work by default http://www.businessinsider.com... & ABP bought out adblock http://www.theregister.co.uk/2...
---
Ab+ adds complexity in slower usermode (w/ more messagepassing overhead + context switch vs. hosts in kernelmode).

Re:Not a fan
I don't like this kind of stuff very much. It seems like this administration is willing to get us involved in every conflict on the globe... but not very much involved. Enough to piss all the locals off, but not enough to affect the outcome of whatever is going on. I'd rather see the US adhere to the so-called "Powell Doctrine" (much older than Powell) - stay out of other peoples' business until significant national interests are really at stake. And if you have to go to war you don't do it half-assed.
The target countries specified are part of the larger war being fought against Al-Qaeda and Daesh (IS) :

Everything You See New, is At Least 20 Years Old
Daniel Ringmaiden, a convicted tax fraudster, exposed the Stingray, the device that tracks down the location of cellphones.
And in the process, he discovered that the technology had already been around - and kept secret - for 20 years. It was used by the federal government and spying agencies for 12 years, before being released to law enforcement.
And even after he exposed the device, it was two years before news of it went mainstream, and entered the public consciousness.
So these neat little toys? You should assume they have been around, and in active use, for quite some time.

The only reason Russia and China have no intention of attacking us is because we have them. If they never existed we already would've either attacked or been attacked by Russia between now and the end of WW2. You know that the Soviets were very seriously considering not stopping in Germany at the end of WW2 before we showed off our nukes. Having them makes Russia or China directly going to war with us suicide for both sides. The west getting getting rid of all our nukes dramatically increases the chances of WW3 and a nuclear holocaust.
Only very few of the problems the military has had with nuclear weapons created a realistic risk of a accidental detonation, launch, or theft.
This is like people on psych meds thinking they don't need the meds because they are sane on them, even though they are only sane because they are taking the meds.
When was the last accidental detonation, launch, or theft of a nuclear weapon?
Congratulations your one of the few people on Slashdot that is both naive enough and dumb enough to think they way you.

Not just evil, incompetent evil
Microsoft has a long history of extremely incompetent management. For example, the cover of the January 16, 2013 issue of BusinessWeek magazine has a large photo of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer (now replaced by Satya Nadella) with the headline calling him "Monkey Boy". See the BusinessWeek cover in this article: Steve Ballmer Is No Longer A Monkey Boy, Says Bloomberg BusinessWeek. The BusinessWeek cover says "No More" and "Mr.", but that doesn't take much away from the fact that the magazine called Ballmer Monkey Boy -- on its cover.
Worst CEO in the United States: Quote from an article in Forbes Magazine about Steve Ballmer: "Without a doubt, Mr. Ballmer is the worst CEO of a large publicly traded American company today." Another quote: "The reach of his bad leadership has extended far beyond Microsoft when it comes to destroying shareholder value -- and jobs." (May 12, 2012) -

Google has been tilting toward evil ever since Facebook passed it in views back in 2010 and at that moment everything we had done before became no good.

Re:I can never use Oracle.
No wonder people talk about them...
Until this year, Oracle didn't lightly use the "nuclear option" breach notice, Guarente says.
"We’ve seen an uptick in aggressive audits and breach notices," he says. "I started this company in late 2011. From that moment until February, I saw no breach notices. Zero. Now we’ve seen several this year."http://www.businessinsider.com...
Also the new licensing rules for using Oracle in non-OracleVM virtual machines are disgusting.

One of those actual teachers...
Thank you for your support of teachers. I've already reported and weighed in a few times about this subject, and I'd like to just expand on a few of your points.
Unfortunately, money speaks, and superintendents listen. When someone walks into a sup's office and says, "I'd like to donate $50,000 to the district to buy more technology," who would say no? And, on a national scale, if Zuck & Gates walk into the president's office to say, "We'd like to donate $1,000,000 to get more school districts to code," do you think Obama would be any different?
I do wish that we would just let labor markets let supply and demand naturally encourage or discourage people from entering and leaving the profession, as it happened a decade ago. While Microsoft claims that we aren't supplying enough computer programmers to meet demand, the BLS begs to differ. Salaries have grown at 1.5% annually between 2004-2012, barely keeping up with inflation. All the while, we continue to bring in more H1B visa applicants. If these companies -really- want more programmers, all they need to do is raise salaries. It sounds like they have plenty to spare. Not to mention repatriating all that money would go a long ways in increasing tax revenues to help states pay for their K-12 institutions.

We need better government.
We need a government that supports the people (democracy), rather than a government that supports the rich and powerful (dictatorship of the rich).

What everyone else does
... not my damned problem.I was with you up to this point. While I wish I could ignore all the shitty decisions other people make, it still affects me because the good choices I want to make become more difficult or impossible. For example, it's probably no longer possible to buy a new car that doesn't spy on you. Even if I keep driving antique cars myself, sooner or later that fact would make me stand out enough that I become trackable anyway.

Re:Why I Am a Conservative
To have a government like Finland or the Netherlands requires pretty left-wing policies and attitudes, including paying civil servants well, which requires a lot of tax money. If you keep insisting on low tax rates because we don't have a government type that doesn't arise unless one has somewhat higher tax rates, I'm not sure what to say.
Feds earn 74% more than people in the private sector.
The Cato Institute’s Chris Edwards compared data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis to show that, in his view, civilian federal workers are overcompensated. Factoring both salary and benefits, Edwards pointed to BEA data showing the average federal employee earns about $119,000 annually, compared to the private sector worker who earns $67,000 per year. When comparing just salaries, feds collect 50 percent bigger paychecks, Edwards said.
Since the 1990s, federal workers have enjoyed faster compensation growth than private-sector workers.

Apparently our Government is starved for cash? Here's where we tax. Look at how it's spent. -
In other words, a software patent
Yeah, otherwise known as a "software patent". It's worth clarifying what a software patent is not, the better to understand what it is and why it's so pernicious and why they're banned (yes, they are) in the EU and pretty much everywhere else in the world except AU. and JP.
Software patents are not patents on specific ways for causing a machine to perform a useful function. That type of IP is the IP we call "copyright". Copyright does prevent your code, your (virtual) machine, from being ripped off.
So with copyright you're not issued a patent on the concept of any wheel, you're issued a patent on your wheel's unique and specific implementation. If you stop and think about it, it's a really amazing how well copyright serves as the natural vehicle for IP in the computer industry. You cannot just steal another person's original work. Stealing includes *near copying with just a few things changed*. You have to find a relatively original way to achieve the same effect, but the *idea* of what you're doing is not patentable. Copyright naturally delivers all that to computer IP.
Software patents are patents on all ways to cause a machine to perform a generally describable function. It's not the specific implementation performing the useful function that is being protected- it's the ability to achieve the same ends in any way whatsoever.
So like the RIM patent debacle, this patent covers things unbelievably abstract and covers things like this:
http://torrentfreak.com/images...
For people who don't follow links, it's a picture of little labeled boxes representing computers, with arrows being drawn between the little boxes to signify what info gets passed between what computers and when. That's what they're patenting. That's what the patent in the 750 million dollar RIM/NTP case did- took THIS info out of a data base NOW and sent it to THAT computer who did THIS with that info.
That's right folks, we are patenting flowcharts. Read it and weep-
https://www.scribd.com/doc/294...
This is exactly why in the EU computer-related inventions must control some physical, industrial process and then only that physical industrial process is patented, not the code which drives it. Otherwise you're patenting processes defined by flowcharts. You're patenting results. You're patenting ideas.
We know for a fact we don't need these patents for software to progress and for companies to becomes powerful, even monopolistically so, since prior to 1987-1990 or so very few software patents were permitted. Yet we had the invention of EVERYTHING and we had gigantic corporations reaping huge profits also.
This is about regulatory capture and the corporate coffers it fills (with what would have otherwise been your money).

Re:What?
Wikipedia admin accounts are bought and sold, and high end editors with more than X amount of edits get paid to post.
They get paid to edit and add bias, remove defaming info, add defaming info.
add SEO, by creating a "pseudo source" on a webserver that a webmaster wants to boost the pagerank on, they'll create a professional looking article with circular cited sources so you are in a long chain of sources that will eventually link back on itself.
these get cited often as source in articles when they are fake sources, just used to boost SEO on a website.
Here's just a few examples proving Wikipedia is useless, and only used to add/remove specific info, add bias that's not easily detected with logic fallacies, typical propaganda tricks.
Paying $1 per edit: http://www.blackhatworld.com/b...
Hiring a few different editors (various accounts from different ip's to look legit) to modify articles: http://www.blackhatworld.com/b...
Wikipedia admin selling services: http://www.blackhatworld.com/b...
Hiring editors to make edits: http://www.blackhatworld.com/b...
There's thousands of links on that one site, then other sites as well.
"Paid to write wikipedia articles" is supposed to be against the rules, but you can find thousands, most even include usernames, but wikipedia don't really give a shit. unless you are a new account of course, if a 1 day old account writes a really good article you get banned. The reason for banning is they accuse you of being a professional or paid writer since they think no brand new account can write a complete article including sources by themselves so the admin accounts are bought/traded/ even hired out as well as editors of all levels that have a successful history.

Re:Move to a proper country
Ahh more insults from you, this is becoming common.
Just because a bank is holding onto property does not mean its empty, and nor does it mean it would be affordable to rent for these people needing to find cheap accommodation. Unoccupied properties degrade quickly, so banks will gladly rent them out. The people in this story are renters, so the fact that banks wont sell is meaningless to this discussion.
Plus I really dont think there are 640million empty properties right now in the US ("multiple empty houses for every man, woman and child" is what you said, combined with the current estimated population of 322million). A quick googling shows a recent estimate is only 18.6million, and most of those need significant extra work as they are uninhabitable.
Add to that the fact that acting as a landlord for an extra 3.5million zero or low income people (the estimated number of homeless in the US) puts a huge strain on somebody - were you thinking of forcing the banks to bear this cost? Another thing to consider is that the banks *are* donating empty houses to cities for social housing, but most cities dont want them because it eliminates property taxes on those properties and adds them as a burden to the city.
You also realise that the banks are paying for the bailout, right? To date, the US Federal Reserve has actually made a profit of $63.2Billion on loans totalling $618Billion disbursed under the TARPS and Fannie and Freddie.
Of that $618Billion, the Federal Reserve has seen $681Billion flow back, and thats with about $230Billion in loans yet to be repaid. Puts your "elaborate theft from the taxpayer" comment in a new light, now doesnt it...
