Re:Uhhhhh
Disclaimer: IANAL either. First, GPL licensed code != questionably licenced code. Obviously, if GPLed code is posted in a response to a newsgroup posting, it is likely accompanied by the GPL license (or indication of such a license) which moots the whole argument. Whether or not GPLed code has been litigated in court is irrelevant.
Not being a lawyer, I am not aware of case law that may involve use of code posted to a public forum without notice of license. It likely isn't very common or groups like comp.lang.foo would not have existed very long and this question wouldn't have been asked here.
Yes, copyright is still owned by the author. That being said, the author would have been unlikely to provide help if he was concerned said help might actually be used.
As I said, it's the social norm in some forums like Usenet. Perhaps the code came from here or maybe even here? My point is that sharing of pieces of code like this has been done for years on a share and share-alike basis without the ugliness of first legalizing, licensing and contract signing in triplicate. -
Re:SheeshI've never seen an FPS where you play a myopic, balding, fat kernel hacker.
close... what about these two?

Sam & Max
Parappa 2 was a good choice, as it's a really good showcase for Rodney Greenblat's character designs... but the runner-up was kind of lame. Instead of Um Jammer Lammy, I would've gone with Sam & Max Hit the Road, which features a great illustration by Sam & Max's creator, Steve Purcell.

Re:Galactic Civilizationsthe box featured an ugly, blue, zombie-looking man, with dreadlocks. the game itself was one of the best RPGs ever, but the grandparent's right; the box was ugly.

Where to get the cd
Amazon has some 3rd party auctions but if you want simple this site is selling new copies. Looks like they ship to the US, Canada, Mexico, and more. Though they look small so I have no idea how much inventory they have.

Re:focus on quality of RPG's?
I think this is what youre looking for. It might be available here.
Forgotten Reals Dual Jewel . has all the old SSI gold box games if you like Pool of Radiance and all those games.
A lot of other old-school RPGs are available from abandonware sites. Anyone have info on how to get a collection of the old Dragonlance SSI games? I think there was a CD collection published but I could never get a hold of it. Also, anyone have info on Cluebooks? I'd love to have a run through some of these games but I dont have the time to figure them out! I'd be willing to trade scans...

Re: SC 3I actually got Star Control 3 at an Office Depot about 2 years ago. In many ways the game was more linear, but somewhat more tedious. The graphics were pretty good, and the dialogue, as one might expect was funny. The short version of the plot is you need to save the galaxy by taking all the species from the 2nd game as part of a UN task force to the galactic core, to find out why hyperspace isn't working. Then meet, and sometimes throw down on new species. The 2 player part of the game has all the old ships, even if the species aren't in the 3 game, and of course sweet new ones. You can get it at least here, although I would think you could beat the price easily.
I think SC3 was Ok, but I did enjoy SC2 more. SC 3 was just a little tedious, although it did have the better story. Such is the nature of things.
