Re:Jesus is the "reason for the season"?
You are pathetic and must live a truly sad life.
That's a bit of an assumption.
I actually live a pretty good life. I laugh, I play, I love, I appreciate the beauty in the world -- no less beautiful if I believe it to be accidental than if I believe it to be the design of a Creator.
And I do enjoy a debate, although you may have caught me at a bad time.
Unless you are a 911 dispatcher or some other emergency service needed; than you should take the day off work.
Actually, I enjoy what I do, and we have something to present at CES which isn't done yet, so taking today off means I probably lose a weekend. What eventually convinced me to take the day off was a Stephen Hawking book I started reading, an Erlang book that I'm maybe halfway through, and that I can't seem to get this fire started in my wood stove.
You are just over analyzing this completely too much and seem very bitter/jealous towards other people in life.
I do tend to overanalyze, although, as I said, I enjoy it. But bitter and jealous? Actually, I was mostly playing Devil's Advocate. In reality, people mentioning Jesus does annoy me, but I enjoy the rest of the season -- people dressing up as elves and hugging each other for no reason, lights all over the place, complete waste of power but often beautiful...

Not much new
The technology for playing records by 'reading' them has been around for quite a few years, I believe the original example being the Finial turntable that came out in the 80s, later seen as the ELP turntable.
I've seen and heard the ELP 'tables on several occasions, mostly at the Consumer Electronics Show. They require the records to be scrupulously clean in order to avoid read errors and be playable. The sound quality is OK but nothing to write home about. -
Ugh... bad headline/article matchupSo anyway, fanboyism aside, here's a link directly off the CES website of the list of CES Innovation Honorees for gaming tech:
http://www.cesweb.org/attendees/awards/innovation
s /rd_2007honorees.asp?category=110This should hopefully give people a better idea to folks that there were a whole bunch of interesting gaming technology being shown there and that although Sony won best of category (http://www.cesweb.org/attendees/awards/innovatio
n s/rd_2007honorees.asp?boi=1), they were just one of 11 honorees.Hardly a roundup, if you just pick the fattest bull out of the herd and let the rest of the valuable cattle get away (the article did pay attention to the Headplay viewer, something I'm not sure made any honoree list.. basic searches don't come up with anything so far).
Also, CNet (http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-12760_7-6676861-1.h
t ml?tag=bubbl_1) has their own awards too. I only mention them because they are at least the most officially attached media outlet to the event it seems. -

Re:Benchmarks
Have you ever heard of the international CES? Thousands of electronic companies showing new and upcoming products to over a hundred thousand people. You get to see the glossy screens, the new look and feel, size and power of those products. I'm sure you've seen or heard about the Sony PS3 right? The Nintendo Wii? How about Windows Vista?

Re:But but but!!
Researching a little further, that $499 price may include a TV tuner with PVR functionality.
A few more links:

Now I'm kind of excited to see how this FIC comes out on the market. $499 for out of the box PC and DVR functionality in a nice package, I may just have to buy one.

Re:Remember the Atom?

Re:Remember the Atom?

Re:The company is using futuristing computing also
The scary part about that site is the link to this: http://cesweb.org/attendees/awards/innovations/rd
_ 2005honorees.asp?category=48 - yes, that's right kids, they got an award in the Computer Components category at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) for a completely fictitious product. A-fricking-mazing. -
Re:Time and again...
No, it will be $6,000. Check out this website that contains info on their RAM. Then if you factor in the $5,000 price of flash storage it will be $11,000 just for RAM and storge. A double amputee is able to count on his fingers the people who are lined up to buy this laptop. But what I would really love to do is get some hands on time with the system pictured in TFA, make sure that it is not a fake.

Re:It actually does! (and they have the pictures!)
The "1TB non-volatile Quantum-Optical Synchronous RAM" storage fits into an SODIMM slot & is due to be priced at $6000 (!!) according to this page

Would CES 2005 Give Award for Vaporware?
On the fence on this one myself, but this does seem to ligitmize them a bit more:
http://cesweb.org/attendees/awards/innovations/rd_ 2005honorees.asp?category=48
Now... they do have a crappy website and the optical 1/8" jack "memory modules" tickle the crap out of me, but it looks like this may actually have some legs.
Also see the under-the-hood photos at: http://p2pnet.net/story/6160
I'm sure Thomas Edison's first light bulb experiments didn't look all that ligitimate either...
cheers,
Levendis47 -
Apparently headphone jacks are now optical lenses
-
Check 'em out at CES!!!
You can check out their quantum-optical headphone jacks for yourself at their CES booth
-
Re:OBVIOUSLY LEGITHere's what they will display at 2006 International CES: exhibitor details.
The link also contains some contact info. -
How come were they at CES???
For sure, it's fake. No question about that.
I thought it could be a website for a scambaiter at first but they are not talking about the possibility to buy anything... and moreover, they have a link showing they were at CES 2006!
How can they pay the fee to attend to that kind of shows? Is that a hobby for some rich old man? -
Re:The sound you just heard...
While certainly a hoax, it's an unusually thorough one. Check out their appearance as a CES Innovations 2005 Awards Honoree.
-
I did not believe either
This is most likely a fraud but it does contains some interesting tid-bits of info that make it appear that it could be true.
First off they won an award for there laptop by CES.
http://cesweb.org/attendees/awards/innovations/rd_ 2005honorees.asp?category=48
Second, Windows 2003 Datacenter (64-bit) edition does support 1TB, maybe they hacked Windows XP with those files to get 1TB (If they are so super smart you would think they could do this).
Ref: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/64bit/x 64/datacenter.mspx
Third, They are going to CES to show off there product: http://atomchip.com/_wsn/page5.html
So these pieces of info make it seem in the realm of possibilty even though that chance seems so small -
Does anybody have a brain
Look at the pictures. You can see they have been edited. The screenshot that shows available space on the drive had a real hack job done to it. The TB doesn't even line up straight with the rest of the line. What about the picture of the goofs in clean suits. Looks like they are sitting at a beuty shop. What about the fact that the web page is extremely lack luster? I mean it looks like they used Microsoft paint to do their very amateur editing. This doesn't even begin to look like a good hoax. Ok, if you do a search of Atom Chip Corporation you may come across a CES site that lists them as attendees (http://www.cesweb.org/attendees/directory/rd_exh
i bitor_details.asp?exhibid=7059). But, their email address are @optonline.net See they were too cheap to even pay for webhosting that would at least allow them to have email addresses using the atomchip.com domain. Oh well, maybe high quality hoaxes will make a come back some day! -
Re:A fraud, according to the OSNews community.
But they are going to be showing at CES so it must be true!</sarcasm>
-
Registration at CES 2006 are real
They actually registered at CES 2006 with their fantastic product specs, the 2TB CF-card for example.
-
Some fun facts...
Apparently this "magical computing" corporation has sprinkled their pixie dust on others too. They're actually registered for the next CES:
http://www.cesweb.org/attendees/directory/rd_exhib itor_details.asp?exhibid=7059
Personally, I'd rather have the pixie dist they're using then whatever supposed invention they're presenting :) -
Interesting they will be at CES 2006
http://cesweb.org/attendees/directory/rd_exhibito
r _details.asp?exhibid=7059&
I would love to be there to see a demo... While being at CES doesn't mean its ready for the world it does mean this is more then just a prank.
Its a real company, with possibly real products although they could just be fishing for stupid investors also, Wish I could be there to find out -
Exhibiting at CES 2006
I posted this story earlier but had it rejected... If it's all a fantasy, which sounds fairly likely, they're going to look rather daft on the 5th of January:

Re:Netgear
I'm really disgusted that the mac mini is included in these awards. Why? it's a complete ripoff of the sonos device here.
Preview photos of the sonos were circulating in February 2004, almost an entire year before the Mac mini was released.
I think these awards are more pandering to Apple than really looking for good design. -
Comdex has been replaced by CES
If it's for the retail channel, it's probably at CES. If it's for business, there are other shows. That's why Comdex is dead.
-
More infoMore info about this keyboard:
Original press release
Engadget reivew
From the CES showMy problem with this so far is that the alphabetical layout is about as bad for your wrists as QWERTY. And I type too many numbers and symbols to seriously consider this type of keyboard.
Not to mention it has a Windows XP ^W^W Fisher Price theme.
-
Re:speaking of PVRs...
oops, correction: the device is called MediaMVP
linkified: MediaMVP -
Re:CES? COMDEX?
CES stands for Consumer Electronics Show. Although, I found that their website doesn't really define the acronym unless you do some digging.

Best of show
The DVR-921 won CES (Consumer Electronics Show) Best of Innovations for 2003. Of course, it should have won it for 2004 since that is when they will actually be available.

Re:TiVo's dirty little secret
Regarding this comment:
new LED's on the front including "Temp" for those sure to be occurring overheats.
I've looked at the photo. Try as I might, I don't see any such LED. The only LEDs I can see are labeled 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, PWR, and REC. Maybe the little TiVo logo guy lights up when he gets too hot.
Perhaps you meant to complain about some other non-TiVo device that I don't see a picture of.

Pepper Pad?Found this in the list of stuff at CES, under Computer Hardware:
"A lightweight, Linux+Java powered, Wi-Fi computing device with an 8-inch color screen"
mmmmmm, I want one.
(What's the thing on the top right corner?)

Echostar just announced an HDTV-capable DishPlayer PVR at CES. And it won an award, too.

CES International?
The link in the post erroneously points to CES International, a company that provides B2B ORM solutions. The correct CES URL.

Correct link to Consumer Electronics show
