"Inaccuracies Happen" - Elections Canada
Of course... not much will happen. The link below from an article about a Waterloo phone call problem, which also mentions the Guelph robocall problems listed in TFA above.
"Under the Elections Act, an election in a specific riding can be overturned if a "competent court" finds "there were irregularities, fraud or corrupt or illegal practices that affected the result of the election."
However any application to the court to contest the election must be made within 30 days of the election results being published in the Canada Gazette. A complaint can also be made the same day the applicant "knew or should have known of the occurrence of the alleged irregularity, fraud, corrupt practice or illegal practice."
Moreover, the Commissioner of Canada Elections would have to investigate and refer the matter to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, which would in turn decide whether charges were warranted. All of which means it is premature even to suggest any election results could conceivably be overturned."

Re:It could have been better phrased...
You might have had me if it wasn't that gasoline engined cars cause around 1.2M deaths a year from accidents. I mean, in Toronto alone, they blame around 400 deaths a year on automobile emissions.
I mean, take your 740k cases of 'premature aging' - balance that against China's 750k premature deaths due to air pollution. While it's noted that most aren't due to air pollution from cars, it seems that a Chernobyl level event is along the order of 'once every 25 years' - leading to an annualized cost of ~30k/year. Assuming that the article from a anti-nuclear organization is true and not an over-exaggerated scenario(which, given that the numbers exceed that of most other oganizations, is probably the case). I don't really count most of the abortions because they were done in panic, more from the fear of mutation than the actual risk.
Gasoline engines, on the whole, are nasty, and sadly enough, it's fairly easy for me to come up with numbers comparable to the biggest disaster in nuclear history, on an annual basis.

Re:FYI, our police love to over-react
I found the stories associated with that incident.
This is the "OMG it's a bomb" story.
This is the follow-up with the truth. He would have been safer saying it was a water electrolyzer.
He was charged. The charges were dropped, but the school still fucked with him over it. You'd think an institution of higher learning would be able to understand what he was trying to do. {sigh}

Re:They've taken a leaf out of the UK's book
Hmm that's actually quite reasonable, I can agree with that. A surprisingly level-headed law from the province with insane penalties for speeding. (BTW, if your car is found to be modified, it will be crushed)

Some truth about this..From the original article that the blog post refers too. http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/local/article/10327--distracted-driving-law-passes-at-queen-s-park
Hands-free Bluetooth devices are O.K., and you'll be allowed to use any phone in the event of an emergency to call 911. Your GPS unit will still be able to direct you, as long as its properly secured to your dashboard.
"Communication devices such as CBs that are hard-wired into the vehicle are not covered by the ban," the official states.

And in other news...
... at the request of City-TV and Ed the Sock, the CNBC are to ban the import of European TV programming.

Re:Kinda defeats a parking meter feature
The $300 fine is for businesses, like paper shredding companies. General public would have a $40 fine.
The City of Calgary is also going with catching drivers who stay at the meter too long.
There's also talk of using a similar parking meter system as described in TFA.

Re:So does the US.
>The next time you do that, I'm going to assume that you are too stupid to understand that Canada is not the US and that you are incapable of rational discussion on this subject.
Your inability to realize that contrast and comparison are a valid writing format seriously makes me wonder if YOU are capable of rational discussion.
>You might want to note the part about "Telephone harassment" and "Use of racial slurs" and "Verbal abuse" in there.
To quote from your book, "I don't really care what Washinton DC law says". This isn't about individual US cities. It's about the US as an entire country. That includes places like Hawaii and Alaska, and heck, Puerto Rico too.
Tell me, if I go on speakers corner in the US (in general, not just in a few handpicked territories) [I'm sure there's a US version of that show] and say "All Jews are faggots" *how* are you going to sue? *How*? What for? The other poster has explained you'll need to prove some form of personal financial loss. What loss? How? I'd love to be in that courtroom!
I've heard people doing this before (the joys of "Voice of America's" more eclectic programming) and they don't go to jail. They don't get sued. At worst they get angry callers and hate mail. At worst.
If I can get away with that then libel/slander don't cover hate speech in the general sense, do they? Just in the specific sense, such as me saying an untruth like "khasim is a faggot". -

Watch it over the air on UHFIf you are amoung the UPN-challenged (and that includes directTV customers, dammit!), you may be able to pick up a Canadian station City TV on UHF, if you are close enough to the Canadian border.
Find the closest Canadian city using Mapquest, then use TVGrid or Canada.com to find the TV listings there, so that you know what channel number to look for.

Re:Historical
On CityTV they bleep out "fuck" and "motherfucker" during the day, but after a certain time (I think around 8:30PM or so) they only bleep out the "mother" part of "motherfucker". I'd always thought it strange that the innocent word "mother" somehow made a swear word even worse somehow.
