Driving Test Story
I could have used that on my driver's test. I was doing great on my driving test until I got to the parallel parking bit.
Picture this, an empty suburban street. Just one car parked on the road. All I have to do is park behind it. 10 min later, my car is about 6 feet away from the curb, at a 30 degree angle.
The woman giving me the test looked over the brim of her glasses and said, ``You want to try that again honey?''
I wanted to say no, because I was actually rather proud of how close I had gotten that time.
But, I tried again, with the same result.
``Why don't we move on.'' She said.
In the end, she passed me, but with the words, ``You're a very cautious driver, but the worst parallel parker I've seen in my entire career.''

Wow , a 23 year old who thinks he knows how to be a great parent.
You may notice, that I just asked a question, I didn't tell anyone how to be a parent.

Positive Reaction
Mr. Nail predicts that Internet users will react well to the ads, both because they can click away if they choose and because the advertisers involved have brands that "people have positive reactions to
They won't have positive associations with those brands for long. People don't like spending 1,500 on a computer and 20/month for the net only to have adds forced on them when they are trying to do something else.

"It's TV, without the television," said John Vail, director for digital media and marketing for Pepsi-Cola North America, a unit of PepsiCo.
What the hell does Mr. Vail think TV is short for?"

What the hell.
Beginning tomorrow, more than a dozen Web sites, including MSN, ESPN, Lycos and iVillage, will run full-motion video commercials from Pepsi, AT&T, Honda, Vonage and Warner Brothers, in a six-week test that some analysts and online executives say could herald the start of a new era of Internet advertising.
There is a revolt over popups. Who thinks this is a good time for full-motion commercials? What kind of reaction are they expecting from the public on this one?

Re:Me@google.com
I have only 1 suggestiong for Google, and that is to let me up the number results returned to 250 or 500. Other than that, I'm on the bandwagon!
If you need to go to the 500th result, I don't think you are using the tool the right way.

Question
What if I as the parent of a 17 year old, give them permission to look at porn? Can I have that block removed from their phone... a phone I most likely bought and paid for in the first place?

Re:Lock
prediction: there will be email portability (similar to cell phone number portability) legislation proposed soon.
Not feasable with the current system. With phones, everyone has a unique number. When one guy has gandalf@hotmail.com and another gandalf@yahoo.com, how do you decide who is the `real' gandalf?

I'm sure Google is getting more and more concerned about locking in users
It's only a lockin if the users want to leave but can't. Google has a good history with users, I wouldn't expect them to do any less with a mail client.

Re:Looking for "Internal IP Addresses?"
Sure, what the fuck ever. This is trivially defensible in court.
I wouldn't be so sure. Juries of average people I don't imagine have the patience to listen to lots of tech talk.

Re:I'd love one.
My biggest complaint about computing is that my brain->computer interface (hands to keyboard that is) is VERY low bandwidth and VERY high latency.
I'd just love to be able to type without using my hands - years of keyboarding have left with with a lot of repetitive stress injuries. And I'm only 22 : (

..then evidence for a second genesis would await us, providing a heaven-sent opportunity to compare two bio-systems..
Pet Peeve #1977832: I hate it when they use overt religious terms in scientific articles. Keep religion relegated to where it belongs and keep science scientific.
No kidding, if the opportunity was heaven-sent, why do we have to do all the work?

Biz Lingo
..."adaptive" information technology is about. It has something to do with "Darwinian reference architectures", she suggests, and also with "modularising" and "integrating", as well as with lots of "enabling" and "processes"... Microsoft's Bill Gates talks of "seamless computing". Other vendors prefer "ubiquitous", "autonomous" or "utility" computing. Forrester Research, a consultancy, likes "organic". Gartner, a rival, opts for "real-time". Clearly, something monumental must be going on in the world of computing for these technology titans simultaneously to discover something that is so profound and yet so hard to name.'"
Except for the Darwin part, it sounds like the usual, meaningless biz lingo.
