Whatever they're doing, it's having a huge impact
Per capita, Estonians are currently spending more time (67 hours/year/capita) playing first person shooters online than Canadians (57 hours/year/capita). They're almost matching South Korea (70 hours/year/capita). By the way, the US comes in with 109 hours/year/capita.
This is quite a feat for a former Soviet republic.

Re:The Final Barrier
PEOPLE, generally, don't want to play games on PC when they could rather do it on a console. PC gaming has for years been doing a great job committing suicide all by itself. Only the most casual games (Zoo Tycoon, Sims) or the most hardcore games (UT2K3, etc.) have any place right now, and even that is disappearing. MS' 'help' isn't needed.
Really?
I wasn't aware that any console had an input interface as well-suited for FPS games as a keyboard/mouse, or that they could make my television set deliver the 100 fps required for real-time gaming. At a decent (>1280x1024) resolution.
Where are these magical consoles?
You haven't played any PC games recently, have you?
The only reason MS is putting effort into the PC for gaming is as a test bed for the next generation XBox (think of it as a hardware implementation of DX9). You can bet that their PC efforts will be refined in the XBox version, then phased out on the PC.
And iD is being harassed to sit on the PC version of DooM 3.
And yes, Bungie did have a release date for PC/Mac Halo shortly after when they were bought out. -
Re:Convince me.
If you like games that are historically only on the PC, it's likely that won't change. The most recent Monkey Island was ported to PS2, though, and it seems Age of Empires II is available on PS2. I'm not real familiar with any of the games you listed (I'm not even sure what hide-and-seek strategy is) so I can't provide suggestions.
There are probably some alternatives on the console, but not necessarily the exact same series/same companies. -
Computer and Video Games
I think this is the oldest extant games magazine, dating from 1980 or so.

Old news - screenshots and stuff
Not just old news, but positively antique. Here's a link to a C&VG article complete with screenshots of the PS2/XBox versions, which were announced long before the GC one. Also an IGN preview of the PS2 version.

PS2 has XBox beat on price.
Sony cuts PlayStation 2 price in Japan and PS2 set for price cut in Japan, note the reference to the price cut in Europe earlier this month. Significant price cuts around October time are almost inevitable.

Catching companies cheating ...
... specially MS, is more fun than doing their marketing work for them.
Also, many gaming sites found this newsworthy, so I don't know why you're complaining :
