Web site is getting hammered I think.

Re:Not much
Yes but they're throwing in a special edition MS Office clippy icon that resembles this man.

Sun broke again in 6-9 months?Buried under the headlines about the love-in with Microsoft on April 2nd was Sun's announcement that the latest quarter's losses are likely to be $750m-810m--worse than expected
At that rate the 1.6 to 2B USD will be gone in just a few quarters. And I'm sorry Mr. Schwartz but selling cheap commodity hardware at razor thin margins will not help much. The only way that strategy will work is if Linux becomes the de facto standard and Sun distinguishes itself with its Sparc hardware. But that will take years and 2B doesn't seem like enough to bankroll it. Can Sun hold out long enough? Unix sales are collapsing fast. What are they going to do for money in the meantime? And will they break rank like SCO and try to preserve short term revenue at the cost of their long term viability?
I just can't help myself. Look at that handshake in the picture. McNealy looks like Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, cautious not to get any body parts too close to the mouth. Crikey!

Re:Easy way around law for Techs
Don't you need one to keep off all the crocs?
Nahhh, that's Steve's Job. ;) -
Silver? Toothpaste? Who cares?
Which is exactly why you want [the thermal transfer compound] to contain silver, silver is one of the best conducters of heat there is.
Have you checked out Dan's Data on thermal greases? He does a very nice comparison between Artic Silver 3, Cooler Master PTK-001 and HTK-001, Nanotherm "Ice" and "Blue", and... Toothpaste and Vegimite. While Dan may be quite mad, even for an Aussie, there is definitely method to his madness. After measuring the effects on cooling with his usual methods... the difference amounts to diddly-squat. And yes, that includes the difference between Artic Silver 3 and Toothpaste. (Actually, toothpaste was marginally superior.)
So, yeah, there may not be much point to getting too upset if you've gotten thus screwed-- it probably won't make jack-all difference in your system.
On the other hand, it is definitely immoral and almost certainly illegal to claiming "99.9% silver content" when you mean "99.9% silver free". While it was probably a harmless scam (and probably saved this disreputable company some chump change in manufacturing their overpriced goop), whatever Three-Letter-Agency has jurisdiction should probably come down on these folk like a ton of old hard drives on the principle of the matter.

Re:it would fly only if...
What, you dissin' Steve Irwin now?
His shows are way cool :-) Although a bit dramatized, but as you may have guessed it is intendent for the younger audience.
Naw, look at dis' daaangerous snake! It's really posawnous, so you dawn't wanna get any near it.. Now I'm gonna grab it by its thrawt so y'all can see!
I mean, who don't like that? It's almost like Jackass! :) -
What! no Foster's?
Australia needs their own distro patterned after Foster's beer. The best part is we could have the Crocodile hunter do the endorsements. Imagine a commercial where we dress him up as a penquin and have him battle Micro$haft Crocs - Crikeey and that Croc has a bad case of worms...

Re:what's up with 'whuffie'?
If utility is measured is measured in utiles, shouldn't reputation be measured in reptiles?
So, we should just get Steve Irwin to tackle Microsoft for us? Crikey!!!

Easily foiled
How long before the Japanese Yakuza start selling robotic Steve Irwins to disable them?

What's in a name...
Now there's a PDA that Steve Irwin would be happy to use.
Danger, danger, danger!

Re:Am I the only person who is hesitent about this
Take off the tin foil hat for a second, would ya?
How long did it take for Microsoft to dominate the desktop market? They released Windows 1.0 a long time before OS/2 fell off the competitive map.
Microsofts domination kinda snuck up on everyone, since the IT industry assumed that there would allways be a company to compete with Bill&Co in the OS/Office Productivity space. This time, no such assumptions will be made. If they actually get something like this off the ground, there will be lots of people (Miguel) making great things that compete with Microsoft's offerings by the time it gets pervasive enough.
I'd suggest you take this for what it is at a base level - something that could be useful and cool. Remember, it is possible to enter a cage with a dangerous beast, as long as you know what to expect and how to counter it's natural responses.
IMHO, it's time to accept Microsoft as an industry leader. You just have to think of them in the same way that you do a clueless PHB.

I can't wait to see Steve Irwin tackle elephants!
