Re:I can see why the PS3 is not in demand
The Atari Jaguar had a form of online play long before the Dreamcast or XBox.
The VCS had a modem for downloading games. - http://www.cyberroach.com/cyromag/six/mvc-880f.jpg
Other consoles, from Nintendo, had them before Dreamcast. Other older companies did too.
The only thing I've seen being new this time around is Nintendo including a photo editor. Everything else is just repackaged old ideas and techniques. Though I do enjoy Nintendo's version of them, alot. -
Gateway to Apshai
Cool, is this like a sequel to Temple of Apshai?
First CRPG I ever played.
(apparently an optimized version)

My new gaming RIGBoy, nothing beats my new gaming rig. I'm kicking ass with my new Plantronics 16 color card. My new 1200 Baud modem, with Smartcom I and Y Modem error correction- it realy screams, as I just upgraded from the 300 version.
My new 10MB hard drive sure beats the hell out of my Tape Drive, and the 64K ram upgrade should be all I ever need, especially since my 8088 comes in at a whopping 4.77 MHz - kick ass! I get 2 FPS on Ultima I, and I just found the EXOTIC ARMOR. Not to mention Zork is as smooth as silk.

Well, at least get some details on what it was....
Here is the official webpage of the Classic Gaming Weekend.
This page seems to be working well, occasionally, even under the slashdotting.
Here is an attendee's web page with some details of the work he did.
And, of course, you should be aware of how many great people and groups there are out there keeping the memory alive with humor and aplomb, like these good friends. -
Re:Analog?
Or even http://www.cyberroach.com/analog/ (unavailable at the moment)
I used to have the first two years of Analog magazine until my mother, in a cleaning frenzy tossed them. I wasn't too happy.
I did have the fortune of living less than 10 miles from their headquarters. Used to go and watch Charles Bachand code up his latest game. Major envy... -
Similar product from 18 years ago
Heck, it was even called "Relax"! Here's a link to an old preview from an 1984 8-bit home computer magazine

Atari 2600 gamesI nominate any and all games ever made for the Atari 2600. Developing _any_ game under the insanely tight contraints this sytem placed on a programmer is impressive -- developing the amazingly fun games I played as a kid is downright incredible.
Some 2600 'features':
- No VSync. Every 2600 game had to count lines and keep an exact constant framerate _manually_.
- A total of 4KB ROM and 128 bytes of RAM to work with.
Read this Case History from 1983 in IEEE SPectrum for some more insight into 2600 development.
Also see this interview. Best quote: "The early games [...] were 2K games and the old programmers looked down on us kids for using 4K because only a wimp would need 4K
:)"
