Re:Big R/C car
What they've done is nothing new. http://wirc.dension.com/
In the immortal words of Sheldon Cooper "If anything, it's a modest leap forward from the technology that gave us Country Bear Jamboree." -
Re:Linux for RC
We are happy to hear that WiRC made it to slashdot. By the way if the "anonymous reader" would be us (Dension), then we would linked the official website instead of an Italian site, especially since we are located in Hungary

This of you who refuse to read French
might appreciate the vendor's site in English.

Figures they'd announce this now
I just purchased the Halo 3 Zune, and have an appointment next week to get my car set up with an AUX input solution (Porsche's stupid MOST bus Becker head units don't have AUX inputs available as standard or an option). So of course they have to announce Zune 2.0 coming "before holiday season", which most likely means "August".
Hopefully the Zune 2.0 firmware will be pushed to current Zunes.

This already exists - iceLink Plus
Dension already makes this:

And VW sells something similar for their vehicles as well. -
Re:Why USB?
That's great reasoning for a home stereo, but hiss isn't as much of a problem in cars because there is so much other background noise... engine, wind, wheels. Yep, you're still limited to a range of inputs, but I was lucky and found maximum-volume works with my line-in adapter.
The ipod doesn't have a digital audio out. I don't see why you think the icelink has this. I'm not saying it couldn't -- it could mount the ipod as a drive and do its own mp3 playback of the data files -- but that's not the intuitive approach. -
MP3 in-dash unit
How about this then from Dension here in the UK, just add a 2.5" HDD of your choice and go: http://www.dension.com/main.php?pageid=49&topid=4

Ive not had the pleasure of an iPod or 'iPod Killer', but most of my music is MP3-based and I use a car more than walk (not that I'd walk around with an iPod in my pocket these days). End of this month, I'll be hopefully getting hold of one - I think they retail for around £270 - £300 (what that is in $ is anyones guess atm). -
Re:ipod in car
This is a very neat solution I'm using myself. You can control the ipod with the on-wheel CD changer controls. Hardly a hack.

Re:how about quality music? You forgot the Dension DMP3 Player. See the
/. article here10 gigs? Try 137.
:) I own both XM and a Dension DMP3 player. See my XM comments elsewhere in this article. -
Re:Apparently even girls can remember stuff!I wonder if girls can spell "continuously" better than Denison?

Apparently even girls can remember stuff!
Select the JukeBox playback mode beforehand, because you can only select songs here (no lists, or albums), and max. 16 songs can be pre-programmed. All you have to tell your guests is to turn the driving knob to search, press it to select and add to the program. This is something even girls can remember, or if not, boys will surly be happy to help
Sorry, couldn't help sharing this 'tip' from their website. Could be a cultural thing - I'm interested to see if the tips have such useful information in the other language on their site.
