DriveMeInsane.com was featured here a few years ago now. I believe the guy who started it is a Slashdotter himself. He basically hooked up all his lights to the Web, as well as a number of webcams, his sprinkler system, Christmas tree lights, etc. It was pretty hardcore back in the day. He's kept it going too, although it's up and down, but pretty much was "the" great example of this genre. Only seems to have two lights now though :-(

Is drivemeinsane.com still up and about? I always wanted to play on his remote controlled car, but it was never on. Boo, I say.

In order to avoid the impending slashdot effect, Dublin moved the website to its new home: http://www.DriveOurCityInsane.com/ Apparently the lights are just the first feature. In the future they're going to incorporate music that viewers can upload and play across the city, voice synthesizers to read off posted comments and various other things guaranteed to drive residents nuts. Apparently they got the idea from some guy from the midwest's home project.

Cool, now the people at www.drivemeinsane.com can get one of these and hook everything up to the Internet: heating, security system, lights, garage door, ...

There was another guy who set up webcams in his house and put all his lights on X10, and allowed people to control them over the web. Thing is, he's STILL doing it, it must have been going for a couple of years now.

This story reminded me of it, so I went back, and he's live on the thing STILL, so well worth checking out.

Well, we can make that two. This guy has a similar setup in his house, but it's all indoor action. Lights on, Lights off etc. It shouldn't be too hard to kill this guy's server either.

At Drivemeinsane.com you can control christmas lights in his living room, turn on the sprinkler, office lights, and send mesages that are said with a text to speach program.

A rather cool site that has been setup so you can control a good number of devices and cams in this guy's home. Even his lawn sprinkler. He has had a remote control car with a video cam on it and soforth that you can drive around his house. Definately a must see.
