Re:Surprise!
Being as there is much movement to stop the red light district in Amsterdam, because even the regulated markets are bad for women. It's not anti-male (I am male myself) it's trying to make men better. You may think that men are fine, but metoo has shown that on average men suck. You can either try to make men better and call out shitty behaviour in men or you can be part of the problem.
Go and look at porn titles and see if there is any words implying coercion or rape (drunk, brutalised, pain etc.). I think you'll find there are many. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... If being illegal was such a disincentive then women would not be complaining about the amount of sexual abuse they face. Really the 'boys will be boys' narrative gets far more play than rape bad.
As I say I am not focusing on the workers employed, I am not the person to ask about that. I am talking about making the buying of sex illegal because legalising it doesn't get rid of the problems it brings. https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/... https://www.spectator.co.uk/20... I believe those selling should be decriminalised, because putting them in jail doesn't help the women escape from the abusive situation.
Most of the ideas here are not my own, they come from women, if you'd prefer to read the same by a man here http://robertwjensen.org/artic... I would suggest you look at what some women (adult human females) have to say on the topic, there are many reports out there from women who have left the industry, I suggest you go look at what they say.

Opportunity cost
Netherlands has a serious problem with human trafficing. Why not put the funds into combatting that problem rather than micromanaging how people waste money on games? Or return some of sky high taxes back to people? That's how great countries die, by governments becoming bloated and unfocused rather than doing a few things well.

Re:I'm sorry
Life's not all about cheap dope and Eastern European hookers. Native Dutch have been leaving the Netherlands for years.
"Last year, 144,175 people emigrated, the paper says, quoting figures from the national statistics office CBS. In 2011, nearly 134,000 people left and in 2010, 121,000."
http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/a...To put this into perspective, the Netherlands has a population of 16.8 Million people. 150,000 aren't even 1% so that's pretty normal for emigration. Hardly the crisis you're making out.
I'd be willing to bet a good proportion of those would be Dutch retiring to some place warmer with cheaper prostitutes like Thailand (Thailand seems to be the go-to place for European retirees, Americans usually end up in the Philippines, we Australians have infested both places). -

3 governments, at least.
"And guess who's footing the bill??"
Lots of taxpayers and corporations. It is hugely profitable for Microsoft. Here are stories about 2 other governments, from an article I wrote:
Dutch government to pay Microsoft 'millions' to extend XP support (April 4, 2014)
(U.K.) Government signs 5.5m [pounds] Microsoft deal to extend Windows XP support (April 2, 2014)

all 11 winners are from the US.
The two Dutch scientists that won would probably disagree.

Re:The War On Common Sense
How do you know it would SAVE money to not have freeze warning indicators painted on the roads? They didn't give any price for the indicators in the article, nor did they give any estimate of how many accidents it could prevent.
If it costs $1000/mile to paint the indicators on the roads, and prevents one $10,000 accident per 10 miles, then it would break even.
I don't know about the drivers in the Netherlands, but I can say with some certainty that many of the licensed drivers in the USA indeed do not have a clue. This is especially evident when driving to the mountains on ski weekends and seeing the reckless driving and accidents from out-of-area drivers that really have no clue about how to drive safely in winter conditions since they only drive in snow 3 weekends a year in a rented SUV. I think drivers like this would definitely benefit from freeze warning indicators.
The new Dutch government has basically agreed to raise taxes on homeowners and parents and to raise (mandatory) healthcare costs as much as 800%. But it's good to know that there is enough money to put glow-in-the-dark paint on the roads because I'm sure that was the first thing on the minds of Dutch voters!
As for Dutch motorists, the license requirements are stricter than the US, the driving age is higher, the roads are completely flat, the freeways are basically at a standstill during rush hour, and it rains every five minutes, so people are pretty used to inclement weather.

Re:Can't they already?
Realistically, though, the whole thing should be comparable to phone taps and one should either oppose both or deem both to be acceptable.
Of course you know that the Netherlands are far too fond of phone tapping?

Re:It's the left version of the Tea Party
Really? Then why aren't the protesting their University for putting them tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt for a degree that isn't worth a tenth of that? You know, the universities sitting on multi-billion dollar endowments yet are raising tuition many times the rate of inflation? In an age where information is vastly cheaper and easier to acquire, they are making it much harder and more expensive.
The fact they are blaming Wall St, which has absolutely nothing to do with their degrees' cost, shows their university did not provide them with the necessary critical thinking skills to make it in the world.
A better question is, why didn't the national media cover the numerous protests against universities? It isn't limited to the US either. In some countries, students simply sue the universities. But, none of these stories fit the narrative, so they don't get the same coverage as, say, politicians whose policies are responsible for the multimillion dollar salaries of the talking heads that are supposed to keep us informed about these things.
It took weeks for Occupy Wall St to become national news because, again, it doesn't fit the narrative; didn't you know, Wall St paid back TARP!*
*Using some of the $17 trillion in low/no-interest loans from the Fed, which supposedly exists to keep unemployment low.

There were many young western people joining 'the good fight' in Latin America, or joining terrorist groups in Europe in the seventies. Some of them survived and wrote books about it. Even today this happens: http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2007/09/dutch_girl_serves_with_colombi.php
For the record: I despise them all equally. -
Text sources
The reason for the lack of sources was that I challenged Slashdotters to say where and when it was. Providing sources would have defeated the purpose of making people confront their own lack of knowledge about Europe.
http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2007/03/ondi ep_rioter_jailed_for_10_weeks.php
"Ondiep rioter jailed for 10 weeks
Thursday 22 March 2007
A magistrate in Utrecht has sentenced a 40-year-old man to 10 weeks in jail for his role in the riots in the Ondiep neighbourhood last week. The magistrate said there was proof the man had thrown a stone at police during the disturbances.
Three others, described as 'sensation seekers' by the magistrate, were given community service and one man was fined 250. The magistrate said he had taken a tough approach to sentencing because people who throw a single stone during a riot are contributing to that riot, ANP reported.
Eight other people still have to appear in court in connection with the disturbances. One of them is charged with driving a car at a group of police officers.
The Ondiep riots broke out after a local man was shot dead by police. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being investigated."
If the incident did not take place, then, rather than being jailed for 10 weeks for throwing a stone, they are being jailed based on nonexistent events, which would arguably be worse.
Another reason for the lack of sources about the existence of the riots and the torched police station is that not a single national newspaper in the entire Europe reported on them. Prove me wrong.
