Re:Fax Machine Question Needed to be Asked
Or just use one of the numerous online fax services?
http://www.efax.com/
In the GSM spec, there is ability to fax to mobile, it was just never used, it is much easier to just email a scanned document anyways. -
Re:I've been in the copier printer business for 30
Or get the best of both worlds and use a fax to email service
-
Re:No modem.
Use your email instead...
http://www.efax.com/ for example. Search for "fax gateway" for more details. -
eFax DOES support PS
As seen here>
Sounds like they screwed you, dude.
Or you had some app that barfed out nonstandard PS code. -
Re:Why did you upload a PS file ?
Efax does not accept them as far as I know.

VoIPPlease let me know if you find any free or dirt cheap VoIP services.
ZDNet has an article on VoIP and Internet phones, and they review the providers as well.
If you just want another number with a different area code for receiving faxes and voicemail, consider EFax or J2/JFax you can get a free account not in your area code, and it will send all faxes and voicemails to your email address. If you pay extra, you can get the ability to send faxes over the Internet from that number, get a 1-800 number, change the number to a local one, etc.
Good luck! -
This was tried by Minnesota......and a federal judge handed the regulators their ass on a platter.
This is an obvious power-grab by New York state officials probably because Verizon is pissed and wants something done about this destructive upstart competitor who has the NERVE to do an end-run around carefully bought and paid-for state regulators and offer local service in a way that completely cuts Verizon out of the loop.
There is a big difference between a wireline telephone company and a data service provider who allows you to connect voice traffic to the PSTN. By this reasoning, the people who implement tpc.int to allow people to send faxes by e-mail could also be (regulated and) taxed. And what about efax which will provide you with an incoming fax number to receive faxes, I suppose they are next.

Re:Spam him back
Why doesn't everyone sign up for an account here for the free month. Send a month's worth of faxes to the company... everyone.
After a few hundred thousand faxes, I bet the company would reconsider it's marketing practices. -
Need a phone number?
I use eFax's free service for my domain phone number. Although their support blows it works well when I need a legitimate number.

eFax
What about eFax?

Do all your faxing over the internet. Not sure about security, but I'd imagine that they've worked something out.

Fax your representative
The article Slashdot your representative has been reposted from floating atoll ; please see the site for updates, responses, etc.
The p2p networks are considering a possible move agianst the RIAA in response to this by using recently enacted anti-spam laws."
(more)One advantage of not being totally decentralized is that you have influence, legally. Now the Internet community can actively use the laws it's helped pass. There needs to be more of this kind of thing; it just takes a few more votes. Participate!
I propose a modification to Slashdot, such that users who have logged in and provided a name, address, and 9-digit zip code (in the united states) or a 6-digit post code (in the united kingdom) are shown a new link with articles: Contact your representative.
Now the Slashdot effect serves to enable millions of hits a day with the chance to vote. The last figure I remember was hearing was 30,000 unique visitors a day; imagine if ten percent of them each send one fax to their representative. Suddenly they're hearing the voices of three thousand Slashdot users, clearly, once a day.
Now do it more often. For every article. And support the United Kingom efforts, too. Other countries, too; perhaps a distributed network of Slashdot users with modems.

Re:"Firewalls" for fax machines?
You can also sign up for an internet faxing service that delivers faxes to emails, and let your email client handle the SPAM filtering work for you.
Check out efax.com, for example.

Re:Ask for Any Contracts Up Front, Consult AttorneDon't have a fax? Maybe the local copy shop downtown will allow you to receive faxes for a fee. I've known drug stores where I received faxes regularly.
Better yet, get an EFax account. It's free (for receiving) and delivers your faxes through e-mail.

Re:alias - problemYou can still keep information "private," while maintaining the ability to be contacted. Like so:
- Mailing address - Your local post office (US link, consult your directory if not in US)
- Phone Number - UReach, OneBox, eFax
- E-Mail address - Yahoo!, HotMail, Several Others
Not very hard at all, especially since you'll give false information to the latter two groups in order to sign up, and the first one can't sell your info anyway.

Faxaway and efax Re:network faxing
tcp-int is nice if you're faxing in the areas they cover, but their coverage is spotty. I've been using Faxaway for all my faxing; their rates are fairly reasonable ($.10/minute, and a 2-page fax is typically 1 minute), and zero fax hassle (no fax machine, no fax line, no modem sharing) since like tcp-int, you just e-mail your documents to get them faxed.
Actually I'm not hassling with fax machines for receiving, either, since I got a free fax number from eFax.com. The faxaway/efax combination has been downright convenient, not to mention cheap. My understanding is that efax now offers fax send capabilities as well, but I haven't checked out the details.
