Screw Lexmark
They're the ones who tried to use the DMCA to stifle competition in the aftermarket toner cartridge market. Take advantage of the recall to make them lose more money, but please don't ever buy another Lexmark printer!

Heh...
They'll last untill some rocket-scientist figures out that some bizzare combination of fishoil and hairspray will neutralize the selfdestruct mechanism....which will take place 4.36 days after they get to market.
But really...who cares. Between broadband, DivX;-), the dropping costs of DVD writer/rewriters and the media, hardware DivX;-) cards (I know one or two have been announced) and the social acceptance of Napster....The MPAA is in the process of shitting itself.
Well at least until they get enough senators in their back pocket to pass that SSSCA shit.

Dmitry made a martyr of the Anti-Terrorism Act?
If this has already been posted then I guess I'm dead in the water.
If you don't know about the ATA(see above) go to www.eff.com. Read everything you can and write your representatives!- I pray for two things
- That the horrible civil violations proposed in this act are not made into laws.
- That Dmitry does not become the St.Steven of the ATA.

Sad day
When I woke up this morning I thought that it would be a good news day, with Kevin being released from prison. But when I went to the 2600 site for an update and saw the first injunction I became depressed.
And now the other shoe drops. It seems to me that today we all get to experience a small amount of the insanity that Kevin has lived through every day for the last five years. We are on the verge of watching a decision made for us by a small group of people who lack the ability to understand the technology involved in the question, much less the ramifications of the final decision.
Hopefully our friends at the EFF can succeed in pulling us through this, by explaining this to a level that even the judges can understand [not a job that I envy]. In the mean time I would like to show my support by leaving up my mirror site.

End-RunAccording to the article on CNN, the attorneys for EFF were quoted as saying the ruling "did not affect other sites that might have the DeCSS program or sites that linked to sites with the program"
Can't 2600 et. al. simply post links to overseas sites with the DeCSS code and send a big FU to the MPAA?
Might generate an even more odious challenge to 1st Admendment rights...

Electronic Frontier Foundation
This type of case is what this company was formed for. I suggest contacting them and see what they have to say, and keep printed copies of you e-mails with them, including headers. Best thing you can do is not give in until the law takes the domain away from you and that will not happen for a while, things would have to go to the supream court with att the refilings and everything, just never give in. If the little people are crushed there will be nothing left to hold up the rest of the people.
