fight fire with fire
When someone wants to play internet bully with me, I usually start off with unleashing the full force of my skillz upon them, which means turning off their electricity, ordering lots of stuff on their credit cards, war dialing them with different ANI's every minute, 24 hours a day for many months, forwarding their phone number to the dungeon (+1 800-800-8900), setting up ATT Alliance conference bridges and billing it to them ($7000/day), sending hundreds of magazine subscriptions to their house, getting them fired from their job, rm'ing the backup tapes at their job and then rm'ing all the servers one by one, rm'ing their home machines, sending the cops to their house (the old "shots fired" trick), monitoring their IP connection by owning their ISP, hijacking their session and injecting random taunts into the stream is always fun too, among other things.... after that, I usually verbally taunt them until they start to cry and beg for my forgiveness... Re:Why not donate instead?
You get what you pay for.
Like what, 12 cent shoes for $80? Actually most of the time you don't really know what you get. The price is just a lure. -

Denying the distribution of condoms to africa because ABSTINENCE IS TEH KEY!!!11ONE
or the many "evil" countries that america has sanctions on (between iraq gulfwar and gulfwar2 is a perfect example) which do nothing to the leaders but severly impact the civilian populations?
I love the examples you picked because they are the easiest to disprove.
And you have the ultimate biased opinion of the usa, you live there. Only people who live in the usa have a positive opinion of the usa. So is the entire rest of the world biased, or is it you? -

Obviously, you haven't read The MIM Notes from the Maoist Internationalist Movement.
I really love them, actually :)

Re:Prisoners
No, you're wrong.
From here: http://www.etext.org/Politics/MIM/ulk/amlock.html Percent of federal prisoner population incarcerated for nonviolent crimes: 89
Percent of new admissions to federal prisons that are for nonviolent crimes: 94
Percent of state prisoner population convicted on drug charges, 1979: 6
Percent of state prisoner population convicted on drug charges, 1991: 21
Percent of Federal prisoner population convicted on drug charges, 1979: 25

And on drug incarcerations: http://www.drugwarfacts.org/prison.htm
Prisoners sentenced for drug offenses constituted the largest group of Federal inmates (55%) in 2001, down from 60% in 1995

Yes, the French did. but the French farmers don't like anyone who tries to take away their subsidies.

circling vultures
Ever notice how certain groups love to take the NYT as the gospel? Ever think that they sometimes don't have it quite right?
What about this one, where the NYT got hosed like everyone else?
Let us not forget that the NYT sometimes plays dirty games.
And this.
And this.
And this.
Also do not forget the "journalists" that actually fabricate stories.
The fallout.

For those who don't know about RMS...
RMS was born in Modesto, California and attended Berkeley University. This shouldn't surprise anyone, since Berkeley is the Liberal Hive of America and RMS is an admitted communist. RMS began his bizarre lifestyle while attending Berkeley, where he occupied the attic of a clock tower. This eccentricity continues today and RMS will not travel without a grandfather clock and a spitoon.
RMS' penchant for thievery was evident from the very beginning. His attic "apartment" was filled with equipment stolen from the Berkeley computer labs. This was quite an achievement in the early '70s, when any computer equipment was the size of a refrigerator.
RMS and his hacker friends cut class regularly, opting to spend their time and parent's money constructing illegal electronics devices designed to covertly access phone lines. The group of pirates would hack into the phone company, and charge enormous phone bills to unsuspecting Republican professors.
It was during this period that Stallman met Steve Jobs. RMS' technical savvy was far exceeded by that of Jobs and, never one to like being second-best, this caused him to pursue software hacking. RMS' hacking ability was innate and he and Jobs formed an alliance which would later result in the birth of Apple Computer.
Jobs' technical accumen was matched only by his ability to sell. He designed the internal electronics and outer package design of the first Apple, which was financed by Nolan Bushnell. He set RMS on to the task of developing the computer's "operating system" - a sequence of low-level MS-DOS commands which tell the computer how to decode program codes.
Though a gifted "coder", Stallman was quite lazy and didn't fare so well with the new operating system. His sloppy design and bloated codes were barely useable on the first microcomputer. Jobs dumped Stallman and hired John Wozniack to rewrite the internal operating system codes for the Apple I.
This situation didn't sit too well with RMS. Though he effectively dropped out of college, through non-attendance, he remained in the clock tower, unbeknownst to the faculty and administration of Berekely. His bizarre reclusiveness and tendency to "hack" only in the night kept him invisible to everyone, though rumors did circulate around campus about the "haunted clock-tower" and the deformed ghost that would occasionally appear, transluscent white, on top of the tower playing a magical flute.
Stallman grew sullen and withdrew into his own world in the clock tower. He watched as the joint Apple/Microsoft empire grew to become the computer industry and he vowed to topple it by undermining the livelyhood of his arch-rival Steve Jobs (and, by extension, Bill Gates) with his illegal offerings.
Stallman conspired with Linux Torvaledse, another Berkeley student, to create a hacker operating system which could be used to leverage the internet and wreak havoc on corporations everywhere. RMS even went so far as to use Microsoft's innovative GUI (Graphical User Implementation) which he had stolen from Microsoft's mainframe computer and given the hacker alias "X-Windows". Unfortunately, RMS was not able to acquire the latest Microsoft GUI codes and was thus forced to settle for an inferior version.
RMS' continued interest in communism provided him some insight as to how to spread his hacker tool across the internet. By stressing the free nature of the software, he would appeal to the welfare nature of the public.
This marketing scheme worked spectacularly. RMS' hacker tool is now installed on countless computers, hidden away in the dark bedrooms of LSD-using hacker teens.

Re:5% more he?
It's an e-zine (like phrack), available here. I just love the BBS ad and ANSI files at the bottom of that dir. So oldschook, brings a tear to my eye.
I don't know about trade shows. There's always Defcon, I guess. But I hear it's become "lame" over the past few years, just a shadow of its former self. -
Re:Goals
Solar sails require zero reaction mass and do not run down. They have very little thrust per sail area, but microgravity is an ideal place to build very lightweight sail structures. For anything long-term (say round-trip cargo carriers to Mars orbit) a heavy-cargo transit time of a few years isn't bad, and for advanced designs, beating the 6 month Hohmann transfer is also possible using sails.

Re:I'm gonna try Slackware 9
weren;t you able to order Slack way back in the day right from Patrick's site, and it came in a two CD set with Tux on the front?
Wrong again, fuckhead! Slackware CDs came printed with a Dobbs Head on them.
Stop pretending you're this dedicated Slackware user. That's two goofs in a row. -
You are backwards...respectivly. Tort vs Contract
All work is contracted by the method of "financial transaction" unless you declare otherwise in some matter. In an economy, you, I, and others seek property and services and such of those is a contract initiated for property and services by receiving a "receipt." Yes, it is misleading and places a contracted party at risk by not receiving or providing a receipt for a contracted work. In the world that we somewhat know, there are laws that keep every matter of interstate economy for proper administrative managment by its respective participants (voluntary:participants). The most complex of these laws that people and organizations operate upon is known as Tort law and Conract law. In my experience, Contract law is simply a constructed document of statments and agreements and administrative grant of action and process (legaly binding) that may or may not define an exchange of services (financial transaction) as well as abridg any laws or rights granted to any participant of the contract as defined therein. Contracts are tricky, and I know you'll find an easier-understood defenition at Dictionary.com, yet I am in consideration that a contract means much more. Tort law is only operative in absence of a contract. Tort is law that deals with all varying specific topics from organized property and land disputes to redress of varying grievances and activities that have effected another party in some negatory way in absnce of any contract to do so. Tort is how the private world in its unabridged capacity, operates administrativly with others.
here is a difference between a license and certification. A license is a contract and is entirly a voluntary act. A contract, in this world, is to be held accountable for the elements in the contraction, our obligations in a said contract, or by the pre-scribed conclusion of the contract will it be legal to receive the actions of a prescribed administrative authority to choose the contracted anecdotal action in compliance with the contract. What I just summarized as a license is true to my current sustained knowledge. A certification is different from a license in respect that certification is an oath or affirmation that is in-part a construction of true statments by another agency. Yes, a(n) (MCSE) Mictosoft Certified Systems Engineer is somone that received a certificate of oath or affirmation from an agency of Microsoft that declares such statments on paper upon presentation to another agency: "I'M CAPABLE OF PRESSING A POWER BUTTON AND I CAN FDISK YOUR HARDRIVE TO LALA LAND" or some variation of what I quoted an MCSE of stating to me outside of oath or affidavit. Licenses are contracts and it is illegal to force anyone into a contractual relationship and may only be accomplished voluntarily. So, in true form, it is illegal for me to be arrested for operating my automobile (not a Motor Vehicle) on public roads/highways/streets/wherever (10th ammendment and 1st ammendment), with respect to private, and it will be illegal for any such claim of jurisdiction of another organization to apply and illegal for my property to be seized and myself placed under arrest and/or further thrown into jail should I not posses a "Driver's License" because such is the utility of instrumentality which abridges rights and grants jurisdiction to another organization which I did not. Where does this all tie together, you may ask? Please bear with me as I reach my conclusive presentation to you on Tort law and Contract law...
A receipt is issued for property and services and this signifies a conract: a financial transaction. Should any such damage of property or services arise within the contracted work of the other party you chose, then the contract has been violated and it is up to you to arrange for a judge of the law to "see" your case and recognize and enforce the redress of damages/grievances that occured at the hands of the other party with respect to your AGREEMENTS on the services in your contract. Contract law applies to States (a state is a people and not the government thereof). If the issue is not contracted, and the agencies in the non-contracted action are operating in their capacity, the issue is within the constrains of Tort law. Quite obviously, the rememdies within Contract law is beyond the scope of your contracted work and damages received (not scribed); judges choose how to administer any default remedy upon the defendent that you hold responsible for any breaches of the contracted work the defendent pledged. In many respects to freedom, Tort law has been slithered-around by the United States just so they may choose any such remedy for incorrect services rendered; you, as a United States Citizen|citizen, have agreed to the DMCA, RIAA, MPAA, STATE OF ______, and any other such federal organization to administer judgment on your behalf and as well you agree to receive judgment from them and agree to all their administrative procedure.
In the end, a Certification is just as capable of being untrue as well as a Contract violated. There will always be people in the computer repair business of hair-dress business that will act in opposite of the statments present in their certification of their skills yet it is upto you to adress such facts in a court of law or an officer of the court(notary). Did I make sense?

Keep in mind to not rest at the first definition of any word you may see...lawyers tend to stretch definitions of words beyond space and time so you'll need a second opinion as well from those under authorship of the english language in all its capacity. I must cease my endless bable at a recommendation to a website that focuses its persona on laws and how they apply.
Reading material that described Tort and Contract law in a modern abridged setting ... as well the complete application of the previous author's works is available to our perusal. This is one of the most applicable features of Tort and Contract law in action today, the many people in dispute with the IRS or a governing body. I aplogise if you were offended or received my information in any way as being rude. Delight! -

Re:The world economy.Capitalist economies require a pool of unemployed workers to allow for continued growth. Full employment is bad news for such a system. Read this page for further details.
On unemployment it says that it is a necessary condition for a capitalist system, as long as it doesn't get too high - it is upto the individual to find employment and change their status. Capitalism is economic individualism.
Should society look after the people or should the people look after themselves? I think, as in all things, balance is required.

Communists choose Linux? I'm shocked!!!Richard M. Stallman, ubiquitously known as "RMS", is the Patron Saint of the "open source" movement. "Open Source" is a method of software distribution which implements a means of copy protection by not distributing the final program codes. Instead, the user must assemble this final "executive" code by hand, thus eliminating the need for the proprietary data which must be included in a company-distributed copy.
This is all fine and good, in theory, and the Open Source movement has garnered a vast following from across the untamed corners of the internet. In this essay, I will explore how Mr. Stallman came to embrace this movement.
RMS was born in Modesto, California and attended Berkeley University [berkeley.edu]. This shouldn't surprise anyone, since Berkeley is the Liberal Hive [russia.ru] of America and RMS is an admitted [stallman.org] communist [www.jkl.fi]. RMS began his bizarre lifestyle while attending Berkeley, where he occupied the attic of a clock tower. This eccentricity continues today and RMS will not travel without a grandfather clock and a spitoon [warmann.org].
RMS' penchant for thievery was evident from the very beginning. His attic "apartment" was filled with equipment stolen from the Berkeley computer labs. This was quite an achievement in the early '70s, when any computer equipment was the size of a refrigerator.

This marketing scheme worked spectacularly. RMS' hacker tool is now installed on countless computers, hidden away in the dark bedrooms of LSD-using hacker teens [etext.org].
But Stallman didn't foresee the desire of the consuming public for Quality software, as opposed to his lean, second-rate offerings. Not even a price of 0.00 could turn the general public to installing this unwieldy hacker tool known as "Red Hat Linux".
Today, RMS and his following, consisting mostly of unpopular teens who gravitate toward the cult-like group of pirate hackers, continue to sing the praises of their "operating system". Neglecting to mention that it violates current DMCA legislation. This "operating system" is primarily used to trade illegal hacker "warez" and music videos.
Popular music stars like Metallica have called RMS and his hacker tool, "the single greatest threat to artistic expression in the history of man." And Bill Gates has noted, "They are all thieves. They spend their time stealing instead of innovating."
My hope is that this short essay has opened your eyes to the illegal Open Source movement and will give you pause when you may be enticed into downloading it, virus-like, into your unsuspecting computer.

Other e-text projects...Yes, yes, we've all seen Project Gutenberg, and it's a remarkable effort. I was very happy when I found Flatland there, and very impressed when I saw how many titles they had painstakingly typed in by hand.
But they aren't the only projects out there, so why not publicize the other hard-working e-text sites, like etext.org, textfiles.com, project goatenberg, and project bartleby? I urge you all to help these other great projects get the recognition they so deserve! -
Easy Call
That said, I think you have the weight of US copyright law against you, and I don't think anything is going to change that law.
tee-hee. Anything is a lot of stuff. Anything can change Everything. Particle Man beats Universe Man.
Particle man could fight Universe man, but he'd get his ass kicked. With no help of joining forces, there's really no hope for Particle man. Pity him.
E-mail me to join forces.

Non-Taxpaying
Being a non-taxpayer requires a certain level of commitment and sacrifice. I think it is probably a mistake to pursue such a course for financial reasons. There are other considerations, however, as when one ceases to believe that the government represents him, and wishes to deny its continued legitimacy (and funding). The first rule to being a non-taxpayer is not to accept government benefits. No social security, no unemployment insurance, nothing which is not actually forced upon you. To do otherwise is both impractical and immoral. You cannot simultaneously deny their authority and profit from it. So you cannot be an employee, because this is, in fact, a government benefit. You can contract, that's an entirely different matter. And as a contractor, you do not have your compensation withheld. There is a great deal more to this than can be reasonably covered in this slashdot reply. As a starting point, you may wish to read the documents at http://www.etext.org/Politics/FrogFarm/

Re:More proofCompaq hasn't proven themselves to be abysmally stupid in the past, but there's always a first time. As always, I'd prefer to see the specifics of the complaint rather than relying on clueless journos...but lawyers generally are the last refuge of the incompetent.
