Re:Olds
http://www.evesham.com/ was called Evesham Micros and was based in a tiny shop, next to a chip shop I think, just down the road from me and sold games for my spectrum and joysticks.
They seem to have done quite well for themselves since then so it seems some of the smaller retailers who were around could have survived to this day. -
Availibility
Unfortunately for us in North America, these notebooks are currently only available in Europe. Evesham Quest Series (scroll down) look amazing but quite pricey.
There's also a German company Wortmann that makes a much more affordable notebook at around 1000 Euros. Looks like we're holding our breath for a few months or calling up friends and relatives abroud to get them for now. -
Re:Mac mini
What other job would you propose for the thing?
Oddly most MS media center PC's are relativly high end systems. I think it would be excelent for most people who are only doing web surfing email chatting etc...
Frontrow is a quicktime only joke. Where do I get content for that? And don't say iTunes store. Ditch the bundleware and the hardware is nice though, too bad they won't sell em naked.
My Front Row installation gets contenet from all over the place. Handbrake, CD's, archive.org, apple trailer downloads, and yes, I am going to defy you and say iTunes. If all your interested in is the form factor, why not just go for something like this -
Evesham - AOpen
Yes, Evesham offers the AOpen Mini. Very Similar!

Re:For the last time...
If you want a Mac mini that will run Windows, try an Evesham Mini series PC. I doubt the company ships outside the UK. This is a PC, not a Mac, but it is as close to a clone in terms of size and appearance as I've seen.

Update...
Further research has shown that the Evesham Voyager A210 has the Turion MT37 up to four hours of battery life, on integrated graphics. Its bigger brother, the Voyager A410 has Mobility Radeon X700 but an expected battery life of only 2.5 hours. The Evesham Quest Roma is a better price for the same specification as the Voyager A410.

Re:Evesham did this ages ago...
I'm not sure if you noticed, but the logo features a UK flag, the price is given in pounds, and mentions a VAT (value added tax), something that doesn't exist in the states.
They're a Brit company, it's safe to say. -
Evesham did this ages ago...
Evesham supply a preloaded, supported, all nicely configured system.
mmmmm... taste the preloaded goodness...

Re:Schools aren't the defining factor? So long as you have parents buying the hardware, it's gonna come with all the usual MS crap pre-installed.
Only if they buy a computer with the pre-installed Microsoft crap. You can buy pre-installed Linux computers (in the UK at least - e.g. Evesham Technology's ELinux series).
Besides, if it comes down to cash - just tell them to compare the prices... -
Re:Attracting novices? Really?
I dont know about the Walmart PC's, but the Lindows PC from evesham in the UK come with a modem, still no monitor though
not that that matters to me though - if i were to get one (theyre £250 over here though) the pci slot would be getting a tv out graphic card to make a nice cheap box for my divx collection ;) -
Re:And in Europe?LindowsOS PCs at Evesham Micros - a UK based computer manufacturer. Current price is £249.99 inc vat.
800mhz Via Eden CPU, 256mb RAM, 40GB HDD, v92 modem.
