Re:It's not a bug, it's a feature!
This is the new combined security and power-save model in Vista. Your PC can't get infected by spyware, no one can hack your home network, and you won't use any power, if the computer just burns the whole place to the ground.
Parent LIES!
I think it's in the Screen Saver settings someplace:
"[x] Enter Burn-House-to-Ground mode after [ 30 ] minutes of inactivity." -
we are all the elite
Sorry, but every one of thos gnome developers is the elite. Every one of those gnome users is part of the elite. Less than 1 in 5 humans is "on the net" in any meaningful way, and a great many of those 1 in 5 are connected via things like cellphones and shared terminals.
The poor need money - they need jobs, they need health, they need hope. They don't give a shit whether the internet runs on oil or gas or whether it runs at all. Making the blanket assumption all DRM = evil is just one more extremist, unproven dogma.

CSS 2/3 Examples
The other day I found http://nemesis1.f2o.org/aarchive?id=6 - it's a fantastic read, showcasing the power of CSS2/3. Well recommended (I learnt heaps - e.g. extracting data from to put into the document, using only CSS!)

Amber's nervous/unstable-sounding laughter gives me the shivers. Monica was way hotter. -
Re:Finally!
Many Firefox extensions work in Netscape 8 beta. Hendikins has a screenshot of the Adbar extension for Firefox running in an earlier version of Netscape 8 beta. You have to modify the app-id setting in about:config or modify the extension to say that it works with Netscape 8 beta, but it does work.

What is google gaining from your personal life?
Google owns Orkut, Blogger.com, the largest search engine on the 'net, and is now offering free, high quality web-based email accounts with a gig of storage. Except for a few lone voices, I haven't seen any serious discussion about why this huge corporation is spending so much resources on providing these services for free.
The advertising revenue couldn't possibly amount to a significant fraction of the costs involved with these services. The value must lie in the personal information that people are donating to Google, Inc.. What are their plans for it? They obviously plan to datamine it - but how will and how can it be used? What new knowledge can be generated by correlating and cross-referencing your orkut, blogger, gmail and google search information?
It is troublesome that it seems to be popular and hip to be totally unconcerned about privacy. Attitudes like "we have none anyways" seem to prevail, and its funny to criticize those who voice some concern as tinfoil-hat-black-helicopter-seeing schitzos. It looks like people have forgotten that privacy matters. Like many other companies that try to collect personal information, Google's privacy policy is subject to change at any time. This makes it almost meaningless! It is effectively the same as saying, "We respect your privacy right at this moment, so have complete trust in us. Tomorrow we might change our minds."

Are you a weblogs.com refugee? See f2o.org
Well, just like after MoveableHype came out with the license from hell I wrote the WordPress on freedom2operate tutorial and helped f2o welcome MT switchers. Now that weblogs.com is screwing people over I'd like to mention that Manila and weblogs.com refugees are welcome to make a switch to f2o. You don't have to use WordPress, but the tutorial makes it too easy to pass up.

Re:Models file class action suit!
Let's just hope that the two cases don't get mixed up or we could end up with this.
Cheers

comparison notes
Interesting page that show comparison of programs/formats/compatibilities(somewhat) and compression ability.
However, it might be old, so program versions might be off, but an interesting look to see if you really want to stick with a format or go to one that is or isn't just as good in "compression".
archives I'd really like to see a better, up-to-date one if anyone has it. -
A similar situationI also run a small hosting firm and see this situation at least once a week, because we host a large number of free sites as well as paid ones. Like you, I investigate the claim *first* instead of just wacking someone's account without looking into it. At that point, the site is either hosting copyrighted content, or they're not.
If they are, then I tar up their files as proof of the content, send them a nice email saying "You're account has been terminated for breaking the following provisions of the Terms of Service you agreed to", delete their account, and BCC in the owner of the copyrighted material. This is the best way I've seen to handle it yet, and it accomplishes a number of things that are important to do IMO: Keep a copy of the data in question before deleting it, let the 'client' know they've broken your TOS and are losing the service as a result, lets the owner of the copyright know that you've dealt with the situation effectivley and you take matters like that serious(which as a hosting provider, you have to)
If the client isn't hosting copyrighted material, an email should get sent back to the person asking for clarification, as you did. As for the question of how far you should go to protecting rights while upholding the law, I don't think they're mutally exclusive and you(and all hosting providers) should do as much as they can to use good judgement..
