A fashion industry for words.
The term of choice used to be "racist", but that's been so overused in the past year and a half that they have to switch to using another word.
I've been following the zeitgeist of this. Until around December of last year, people would flee from the word, conceding the argument to whoever first uses the word to describe the other side. Then in December people started ignoring the word a little, then Jan/Feb people were like "meh" about it, and around March people started (note: started, not widely) embracing the word.
Then "OK, I'm racist" started popping up, but it wasn't really attached to the *person*, it was attached to the position. One could say "OK, I'm racist" for posting an opinion about strong immigration control. Or "OK, I'm racist" for posting an opinion about limiting visas or voter ID.
Through the summer, "racist" started to be applied to just about everything. Tigers are racist. Perfectionism is a form of racism. Two white parents having a white child is racist. I'm not making that last one up, it's "[...] one of the most powerful forces supporting white supremacy" - don't you know?
Now racist has completely lost its meaning. No one online seems to pay any attention to it at all.
Sexual assault is pretty big right now, but it's fading fast. It was a flash in the pan with people like Harvey Weinstein, but quickly got more ridiculous. You can tell it's on it's way out because Fart rape is a thing.
(Side note: "Trump is literally Hitler" is pretty-much dead, the last nail in that coffin was recognizing Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel.)
So now they need a new word, and it's probably going to be nazis for awhile. Expect this to go on for a couple of months and get progressively more ridiculous, probably though the primaries of next year.
Then Ramadan comes up (May 15 to June15), many terrorist actions will make the news cycle(*), and it's likely that "Islamaphobe" will be the word of the day.
It's basically the fashion industry for words.
(*) Just extrapolating from past years, such as last year viz. London. OK, I'm racist.

Re:Meanwhile...
its about protecting people if anything
It's about fearmongering and harassing red-blooded law-abiding citizens, conditioning them to accept government intrusion into their lives, and making work for low-rent thugs while scores of teachers are being laid off.
You are the one who's trolling. Since when in history has an American football game ever been subject to a terrorist attack? Note: a drunken fan who throws a plastic cup of beer at a rival team's fan is not a "lone wolf" terrorist no matter what the government tells you. -
Re:Typical corporate mindset...
Lately it's been acceptable to apologize for being caught.
For reference see the NFL: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/ndamukong-suh-ejected-detroit-lions-green-bay-packers-112411
''I want to apologize to my teammates, my coaches and my true fans for allowing the refs to have an opportunity to take me out of this game,'' Suh said

Re:Congrats anyway.
I don't watch NASCAR, but the automobiles are technologically sophisticated. They cost $125,000 to build, and because there's so much money in it, are the result of the most expensive, top-notch engineering you can find in racing.[1]
The problem isn't the lack of engineering - nowadays it's the overengineering. NASCAR has issued millions in dollars in fines to teams that have cheated (to different extents) in order to gain performance enhancements on other teams. In some areas of racing, the equivalent of drag plates are required to be placed on cars so that they all can be slowed down (uniformly) for a more competitive race. -
Here's mine...
http://www.espn.com/ (Bill Simmons' column, NBA, MLB NFL section in that order)
http://www.foxsports.com/ (MLB, NBA, NFL)
http://slashdot.org/ (duh...)
http://www.anandtech.com/ (although I just check the RSS feed lately...)
http://www.cnn.com/
http://www.inq7.net/ (Philippine news)
From there I usually branch out into different sites. I do keep a lot of RSS feeds that mainly get linked from those sites (Truehoop, Deadspin, Wages of wins, Extremetech, etc.). It's really easier and more efficient to just check RSS feeds on most sites.
So from those sites, you can see I'm pretty much a sports fan. I also browse through some Philippine computer retailers' websites to check up on prices if I'm in the hunt for something (like right now, I'm in the hunt for a decent LCD). Of course, if I still have time, pr0n gets to be part of that rotation :) -
Often homelessness is a choice
Often homelessness is a choice. Just see this documentary http://www.itsyourtimes.com/?q=node/1429 on what a homeless man does when given $100,000. You'll need a TV to watch it, ironically. He had an apartment, for a few months until he drank the money. His choice.
I work in Midtown Atlanta and there are many homeless people in that area. There's one guy in particular who has been asking me for money as long as I've been working there. I never give him money, but he asks and is very respectful. I don't mind him very much, but if he weren't making a living at "being homeless", certainly he would have moved on by now. It has been 10 years!!! The local merchants either hate them or help sustain them, the homeless that is.
You can point to whatever study that you like, but homelessness is a long term choice, IMHO. Sorry to be so harsh. The same folks who give them money never dicipline their own children or teach them what it is to be part of society. They train their children that "you are special", without the "just like everyone else" at the end, http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/demonicume/20 06/10/03/Congratulations_Youre_special_just_like_e veryone_else . -

Bad coverage on Fox?

technology and hockey
Hockey officals use video extensively to assist them, not to replace them.
If a goal is disputed, the goal judge watches the video (usually from several angles) and decides if the goal is valid or not.
Sometimes a ref misses a call and the game goes on, but the player is punished after officials had a chance to review the tapes. -
Hilf must be a NASCAR fan
The only other place I've heard "co-opetition" is out of Darrell Waltrip's mouth this season while Fox was broadcasting NASCAR events.

Re:Mark McGwire's past
He also looked much, much smaller now than then (when he was playing)
So do football, hockey, and soccer players years after they retire. What's your point?Look at Maradona these days. He's obviously taking steroids now instead of when he was playing, because he's much bigger now than then.

Re:Good god! Sun makes a heel turn!
Sun has just nailed Red Hat and Linux with a steel chair! Oh no! It's SCO... and SCO is raising Sun's hand! What does this mean?! This can only be settled at Linuxmania!
The sad thing is, after reading the first sentence, I thought this was a reference to Frank Francisco and the rest of the Texas Rangers bullpen...

Re:Vital step missing
And the same thing could be done for almost any country.
Many of those are accusations, and while some are probably true, we can do the same thing for almost any country. Let's start a list, shall we?
England
England again (the world champ 100m sprinter... no!)
Germany
Ireland
Russia
Turkey!
How multicultural! Those took me about 5 minutes to find.
Have a good day -
Re:Results weren't supported by testsPeople do these "predictions" for all major sporting events, it seems. My personal favorite was a college football playoff system at Fox Sports. Texas beating LSU in the quarterfinals? Puh-lease . Texas got bitchslapped by Arkansas in its own backyard, bowed down to Big XII South heir-supreme Oklahoma, and got "snubbed" from the BCS by a K-State win only to lose to Wazzu. Why did they beat LSU in a computerized setting? Games tend to avoid coaching trends and other external forces in sports and focus entirely upon individuals' skills. Texas cannot win a big game despite having an elite talent pool. If they did, the Earth would cease to exist.
:)The point? There is no way that a game released at the beginning of the season can compensate for the Patriots' winning streak or their superior coaching. Everything hinges upon how the players were rated at the start of the season in the eyes of a set of programmers.
It gets even less meaningful when someone picks up the controller and starts playing. I can whip the computer 255-0 in six minute quarters in NCAA Football 2004 with my dynasty season and violate other players with a massively inferior team in multiplayer. Does that mean that Memphis is a better team than Oklahoma? No. It means I'm better than the person sitting next to me at this particular game. He can slap me silly in one of the other football flavors. Who is the better player, then? No one.
That said, Patriots by two TDs from their previous Super Bowl experience and pedigree from a much stronger conference.

Logos are the least of our worries
TNT, while rebroadcasting episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation , puts a black bar across the bottom of the whole screen without scrunching the screen vertically, thereby covering up some of the show.
It gets better.
Has anyone noticed TNT digitally adding their logo to scenes from the movie in commercials for Rush Hour ?
Did anyone catch Fox Sports using "green screen" technology to place self-promoting ads to the left of the batter, catcher and umpire in World Series Game 7?
When will digital editing of TV shows become so easy that you never know when you're watching original versus edited content?
Better yet, will the barrier to broadcasting television signals ever become low enough for "open source" alternatives?
