Hmm, almost right ..
I have a Playstation 3 and
..[games are] too expensive and there are too many choices
is about half right
.. the games are definitely too expensive, most retails in the street sell the games at about £40 or higher, you can get bargains on line though, Little Big Planet is just over £10 nowadays (not to mention the only *really* good game imo for the PS3..)The other part, "too many choices", well, kind of. There are 100s of pretty much identical FPS games with ever so tiny tweaks to set them apart but nothing in the classic styles! I would kill for a side scrolling shoot em up with today's graphics, or some more fun LBPesque platformers!
Maybe I bought the wrong console?

Definitely signing up for this one
Didn't get in to the closed beta, but the idea of having Quake 3 in your browser is awesome, literally play anywhere! I wonder if it's cross platform?
When it's eventually 'released' it's supposed to be free isn't it? Paid for by ads?
The biggest question though is, is it going to cut in to my Desktop Tower Defence time?!!!

Macs can have funny exploits
I was amused today when I read this article about a local Mac exploit due to a SUID binary.
osascript -e 'tell app "ARDAgent" to do shell script "whoami"'
All my Mac using friends reported they were vulnerable and I think they're all using the latest Leopard. I'm no Apple hater, don't get me wrong, but it does seem the little things can slip past Apple too, not just Linux (people where I work are *still* affected by the Ubuntu key issue of last month
:o)! -
Rediculous
There is already a pirate version of Mass Effect released for the PC once again proving that DRM doesn't work, so why are the publishers even bothering? This really confuses me. The added cost of the R&D for the DRM, it's licensing etc. just takes away from the much needed profits the games companies keep saying they badly need. All they do is inconvenience legitimate buyers and cut in to their margins.

Re:No stickers in the UK
Apparently 'not exactly rare' is an understatement. According to the beeb almost 90% of UK drivers have reported incidents of road rage (I don't drive and rarely travel by car so have no idea what the mean streets of Britain are really like). I'm not sure what that really covers though, being run off the road? Sworn at? And is that ever? Across the entire span of someone's life? Is road rage in the UK really *that* bad?

Looks good
I'm forever after a phone that I can use ssh with easily for when I'm on call, so a full qwerty keyboard is mandatory. This one is actually looking good with an easily accessible @ / and . characters. Does anyone else have any other recommendations?

Clever
People have been writing webcam tracking software for ages, some is actually open source and there's even phonecam tracking software but this the first hopeful sign I've seen for something more fun than some stupid logitech wobbly eyebrowes and a moustache!

Re:It it only me....
The perspective he seems to be taking is not so much 'what users search for' but more 'what users post about or publish' with a view to studying the correlation of a large site publishing something and then the number of other websites or pages picking it up and running with it.
I'm pretty sure he understands what he's doing, the article summary is just a bit twisted.

Beware of Female Programmers
Now that I've lived to see this day,
These are the things I must but say.
Die a bachelor, if your options are few,
Never ever love a female programmer,
they'll make a program out of you.
Don't laugh it away, mine has been an object lesson,
They find syntax errors, even in a romantic expression.
Alas! They search logic in love, where there is none,
Your heart may skip a beat and they just hit return.
You are in for trouble if you persist,
You'll just be a pointer in her long linked list.

Re:This is ridiculous...
Likewise if a law is introduced that says you cannot modify your games console to allow it to play illegal games then your argument is incorrect
Fortunately that law doesn't exist! While I do have a modded XBox (original) it's only used for the excellent XBMC. Such a law wouldn't just 'hurt' pirates, it would also hurt actual legitimate enthusiasts (XBMC is coming out for Linux soon though soon, so it will be time to retire it!

Re:it's the apps, stupid!
The recent demos of the Android and the announcement of the HTC Touch Pro are really livening up the smart phone market at the moment. I just can't decide on which one to get
:oThe new iphone is basically available now, where as the others aren't, which is a massive advantage, but having a nice keyboard like the Touch Pro has will make being on call a lot more pleasant! Android are yet to announce a phone though, although they have made an announcement that they will be announcing an Android phone at the end of the year...

Re:Doesn't follow.
I've dealt with a lot of people who think IM makes them productive, and I tend to disagree.
I think it completely depends on the person. Where I work, the easiest to communicate with all use IM. Those that don't use IM really hinder my productivity at times, when I have to wait however long for them to reply to an email, or at worst trek around the area and physically find them.
When all you need is a quick yes/no answer when you're in the middle of some work, having to drop everything and move on to another project or leave your desk to physically find the person is a real pain.
And I'm not even going to go in to the usefulness IRC can be for tech support, where often you can get a straight line to the developers of whatever you're implementing!

Haven't really noticed any reduced quality ..
From the article:
What do you think about X Server 1.4.1, X.Org 7.4, and the X.Org release quality in general? Are these delayed and much drawn out release cycles a barrier to the greater adoption of Linux?
I've been using Ubuntu for 4 years now and it's pretty much shielded me from any lack of quality in the releases. Probably if I spent more (unnecessary) time under the hood it would expose issues but I've been living in a very blind 'trust Ubuntu' atmosphere where things pretty much just work (ok, lets not mention the recent key generation problem
:)In short, I guess the only people that might find the quality lacking are the developers and maintainers, and anyone specifically in the graphics industry? Not your average desktop user..? Or am I being naive?

Re:I'm so over Wow.
I played for a couple of years... but man... what's the point? It's just a giant life force sucking treadmill.
Well, the 8/9 hours a day I, and many others, spend at work aren't nearly as emotionally rewarding as enjoying a good game or other distraction. You must have got some kind of enjoyment out of it during that time?

Re:On what planet is this 'news'?
Wait, does the PS3 have two main processing cores? Or are you counting the same core twice: once inside the VM, and once outside?
According to this the Playstation 3 has 1 3.2Ghz power pc core that manages 8 of the vector processors. Apparently only 7 of the vector processors are used, the 8th is redundant in case one fails?

Re:Who cares
Then they'd better make sure none of the material from St. Anger makes it into the game.
I used to really hate St. Anger when it was first released, but now time has passed I really quite like a few of the tracks, namely Frantic and Some Kind Of Monster. I thoroughly suggest you go back and give it another spin! Sure it's not And Justice For All
... but it's not that bad :)
