Re:I'm not buying a WII...
you should tell that to the majority demographic of internet gamers.

Re:First Person
why do people keep saying that games are near photrealistic?
Because we are pretty close to photorealism, just look at this (GT on PS2) or that (Crysis). Its not quite photorealism, but already pretty close and those are games either already out or to come out in a few month, a late PS3 game or XBox360 game might look quite a bit better, not even mentioning what PS4 or XBox720 will be capable of. However this is just photorealism, as in non-moving images, where the realism falls apart is soon as you add motion into the mix. The reason that Oblivion didn't really look as good as it was supposed to wasn't the rendering, but the character animation and unrealistic physic engine, you don't want stuff to slide on the ground and enemy just falling to ground with a generic die animation, completly ignoring the sword hit you have them, things just don't work like that in real life. Neither does a car get a scratch in the paint when you drive it with 200mph against a wall. In many first person shooters the player doesn't even use his arms to climb a ladder. Its all stuff like that were even the most realistic graphics fall completly apart. Now I don't know if those physics and animation problems will be solve to a reasonable degree in this console generation or in the next, but in terms of pure rendering photo realism is really quite close and Final Fantasy movie quality rendering is something I definitvly expect in this console generation.
That said there are of course also effects that are not do able in realtime and probally won't for quite a while, like caustics for example, however since most of them can be faked, aproximated or simply avoided it will probally make little difference to the realism of realtime rendering.

Re:Well, duh...
See, there's this little known site called "Slashdot", they ran something on it.
Or you can go with Joystiq, or GamesFirst!, and there's always the Wikipedia.
Hey, you can always try Google for more articles, there are plenty!
But if you REALLY want a Sony press release, the only one I can find about the PS3 PERIOD is this one, and they're notably silent about online support - the word "online" appears ONCE. -
Re:Reminds me of ColecoVision
Both the Intellivion and Colecovision. However it probably wouldn't work today because of the underlying software (such as the BIOS). Of course we shouldn't overlook Bleemcast which while only playing three PS1 games (even with graphical improvements) before Sony sued them into oblivion.

trespasser and body image
In an attempt to hijack this topic with sexist piffle, I just remembered that the not-good Jurassic Park:Trespasser had a particularly amusing body-image 'angle' if you looked down while playing - see this Games First review and scroll down for the screenshot in question. Uhoh.

Actors
A lot of people don't realize this but the protagonist in the game is based on a real, late actor Yusaku Matsuda. I didn't realize this myself until I saw previews of Onimusha 3 which will feature Jean Freakin' Reno. It is interesting that an actor will be playing a video game character, who in turn is based on another actor.

Re:Sore Loser Post: Croteam Switches to Ogg VorbisI submitted this to Slashdot two weeks ago, and it was rejected. (Hence, "Sore Loser" in the title.)
Heh, i posted about Battle of Britan, a WW2 flight sim gone open source, but do you think they was interested? Nooooo. They're more interested in the rants from Loki or whoever else who promises to deliver games to the Linux platform. *sigh* This is more like freshmeat, but with comments and moderation. *double-sigh*
Like if anybody around here would be interested in a flight simulator gone open source and could be ported to SDL. That is soooo un-interesting. Much more fun to have a debate about the last minor-point release fo Wine, yes sir.

What we'll hear about in the mainstream press......and "concerned" politicians and parents will be this part:
"They seemed able to focus on what they were doing much better than other people and also had better general co-ordination," said one of the researchers. "The skills they learned on computers seem to transfer to the real world."
Then the skills they'll mention will be sniping, street fighting, and mass murder, not rhythm (Samba de Amigo), driving (Gran Turismo), or mouse-saving...er, problem solving (Chu Chu Rocket).
