GamesMania - A Bell Canada Service
The canadian telephone company, Bell Canada, has been offering games-on-demand for some time now. The service is very inexpensive, and there are 100+ games to choose from. The download speeds are exceptionally fast. What's interesting is that they apply all the latest patches to the games already, and they even test extensively for operating system compatibility. How cool is that? Makes you wonder what those US telcos have done for us lately...
The service is available at gamesmania.com -
Re:There are many reasons to pay.
Actually, a really good online gaming service is GamesMania. Pay $15cdn / month and get unlimited access to about 100 full games. Sure, they're not "0-day"-type games, but for someone like myself who only has a few hours on the weekend to play games, it's wonderful. I can start playing any game which tickles my fancy without shelling out the $60 investment on something that may or may not actually be fun to play...

Re:Loss of developers...I suppose you have figures to back that up? But to the point, I believe Sony would have taken major losses on releasing a new system last year, and Sega would have been hit in the stocks because of their dropping out of the console market.
I've seen these statistics before about average gamer age being above 25 (28 to be exact), walk into any gaming store and you will note that while there are a lot of kids poking around, the guys lining up for the till are usually mid-twenties. If Nintendo won't produce games for the demographic age group that buys games then they are out of luck.

Also check out "Sigma", from Relic
Sigma is a game being developed by Relic, the studio that created Homeworld (Game of the Year by some accounts, etc, etc.) Anyway if you dig B&W, you might also dig Sigma (when it's out, late this year?) It involves crazy creatures, a B-movie plot, genetic wackiness, a pretty impressive rendering engine, etc. I'm sure the dev team of Sigma has watched B&W closely (it's been in development for about as long), though the gameplay and objectives seem to be different enough. Homeworld cameras and gameplay were great, so I have high hopes for Sigma!
In the words of Relic's CEO, Alex Garden, (who has brushed shoulders with Peter Molyneaux)... "We prefer to think of Sigma as what happens when a geneticist smokes far too much crack."

How does Relic afford to fund a game that has also been something like 3 years in the making? Microsoft dollars. Sierra funded Homeworld. Not sure why MS is backing this one, and say what you want about the evil empire... but they've got money to risk on crazy games like Sigma. And I think that's pretty goddamn cool... -
The Sims have already been on prime time
This isn't the first time The Sims appeared on prime time. Drew Carey is a very big (hyuk, hyuk) fan of the game; in return for having plugged the game on the show, he is slated to appear in a Sims expansion pack.

GTA All Over Again
Grand Theft Auto, Banned In Brazil. Perhaps they are just trying to be more like the Terry Gilliam movie? As to this, well, Brazil is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there (unless their government becomes more sane).
