Re:Hope technology makes new form factors possible
Forget recent tech news, Asus has had a tablet with dockable full keyboard for more than a year:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_Pad_TransformerAnd swivel-screen touchscreens have been around forever. Dell has one:

As do HP:

Re:HW / SW platform
Get an HTC Evo 3D - it can run Android, Windows 95, Windows XP, or Linux. You can't run iOS, but that's because Apple refuses to make it available.

Re:All in
My contract is up with AT&T and my 3GS is showing it's age so there's a very high probability that I'm getting the next iPhone. I hate AT&T though, as it's pretty expensive. Right now I pay 160 bucks for two phones (one normal, one iphone). The wife pays 100 bucks on her Verizon phone. So that's $260 going out for cell phones which is crazy.
Like you I had the unlimited data plan but had to ditch it as I needed to add on tethering for my laptop (didn't jailbreak, went the official route). It seems like AT&T want to do everything they can to get rid of the unlimited data users.
Sprint has an unlimited data plan and have recently stated that it's "here to stay". So if sprint gets the phone tomorrow and the prices are still decent, then I'll cancel Verizon and AT&T and put us all on Sprint and probably save 100 bucks a month doing that.

Re:Tried it
Where is my cheap eyetap? You could build one for a thousand dollars years ago, supposedly.

Why don't you make sure you understand a word before you try to respond to a sentence that contains it?

Re:Tried it
The implications are profound.
No, not really. Unless, maybe, you're Geordi LaForge.
Yes! AR makes a cool gimmick and you could build cool games around it but on the other hand, it's fairly useless if you don't have a display device you can wear all the time. Some glasses, some contacts, something fancy and futuristic even by today's standards. Sure, video glasses exist, but all of them are ugly and none of the high-res ones are even vaguely affordable. Virtually none of them have mounted cameras so you need to add a rangefinder to calculate parallax.

Re:Steam-punk appeal
Nah, steampunk is a faux-Victorian genre loved almost exclusively by the irredeemably nerdy.
ARE YOU TELLING ME MY WRISTWATCH IS NOT STEAMPUNK????
But on a serious note, I would have imagined steampunk to be loved by even the non-nerdy. Cobbling together modern (or futuristic) technologies using nothing but copper and steal then running it on steam or other outdated forms of energy seems like people would like it. Hell, even Doc Brown in Back to the Future 3 had some steampunkish inventions when he was in the old west.

Re:Perfectly sustainable
If Apple was really interested in helping its geekier customers rather than just locking people into their own services, they'd provide their own equivalent of Google's "fastboot oem unlock" - voids your warranty, no support, knock yourself out. Even Microsoft gets this.
Oh, and they'd probably relax their "duplication" clause and allow apps that compete with their own services, like better mail clients or even the improved Google Maps, rather than hiding behind their lame "oh the consumer might get confused" excuse. As it is, you have to admit they have their less-technical customers (and their own bottom line) much more firmly in mind.

Re:ASD
Right.
I'll just leave these here.
Note that I don't really have any problem with violent video games, per se, I just wanted to provide some crystal clear counter examples to your assertion.
I have a (vaguely-defined) threshold for what I consider acceptable, but I won't be out proposing legislation or other censoring measures. Personally, it's more an issue of the overall tone of the game, rather than a body count or how graphic the violence is, that determines whether or not I consider a game appropriate. I'm a big fan of the Half-Life series, (for example) but don't find much enjoyment in Max Payne. (Although that may be as much to do with the gameplay as the violence; I prefer more puzzle-oriented games to the marginally-interactive movie.) -

Re:Real Answers
The fact is, it's not even going to be close to 30 movies if you actually use the device, you need space for software, other media and so on too. Subtract the space for your apps, your music, photos and so on and the amount of movies will shrink drastically.
"I add and remove media from my iPod Touch all the time, and it takes perhaps a few minutes to check the things I want added before I resync it."
That's because the media is much smaller, try adding and removing 30gb of movies. Maybe you do, but I don't have time to prat around with stuff like that, I have better things to do. I thought Apple kit was supposed to "just work" and not leave you with hassles like this?
"iPads, iPods & iPhones aren't meant to store your entire media library."
That's a real shame, because the competition are, from the following Tablet with a 250gb hard drive, to countless netbooks with similar amounts of space:
http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/the-x2-itablet-windows-7-tablet-05-02-2010/
"Do you complain about your car because you can't put your refrigerator & stove in it?"
Nope, do you buy a product with severe limitations when the competition offers a more flexible, more useful alternative though? This isn't about whether it can be done, it clearly can.

Re:In other news...
The good news is, they did do the research to provide an alternate design required to keep our troops safe. Hopefully it will be manufactured and deployed sooner rather than later.

Good timing
Cydia's appstore makes a rather well timed appearance.
That, having a special product with a high utility for customers, an excellent manager and a high rate of innovation almost puts it on par with the Worlds top business outlets.
My admiration for Saurik's work. Respect!
