Re:Don't laugh...
Global TV streams them next day (or two days?)
You can't record it?

Re:Don't laugh...
Then go to Global, or CTV, or CBC or whomever has the requested show.
For the ridiculously lazy:

If you want an easy example
If we're talking about media, let's take the Fox Network as an example. Because of licensing, Fox doesn't have any rights to The Simpsons once you go north of the border. Once you do, The Simpsons belongs to Global TV.
Licensing the main reason why the available medias in each and every iTunes Store around the world is different. Too bad for the media companies, however, because sometimes the individual markets of each country is too small to even bother, but all added up could mean from 5 to 50% more sales. All they had to do was to keep their licenses to themselves so they would be able to sell their content on all the iTunes Stores around the world.
Most media companies are stuck with contracts, however, so they can't do that just yet.

Re:"But if you don't want our money, fine"
For example Family Guy is only broadcast in the US
It airs in Canada on Global TV: http://www.globaltv.com/entertainment/shows/familyguy/index.html
...and I do mean 'airs' - You can watch it with rabbit ears if you want (we still have OTA analog TV in Canada).
Global wants you to watch Family Guy online at GlobalTV.com, not Hulu, so Global can get the ad revenue. -
Re:Canada SELLs its DNC list to other countries
Just be happy you don't live in Canada.
We have a DNC but our very own government SELLS the list to foreign telemarketers.http://www.globaltv.com/globaltv/ontario/story.html?id=1176350

Re:Jack Layton
who thinks hes Obama
Strange that you get this from Dion. I would think this description applies more to Layton, and Googlefight agrees.

Bush third term? Blatant Obama ripoff. Never mind that the GOP considers Canadian conservatives to be too liberal for their taste.
What is stupid about putting a cost on emitting CO2? Currently the emitters benefit from being able to emit CO2 but the costs are felt by everyone. This is privatized gain with socialized risk. Putting a cost on emitting CO2 helps to eliminate this moral hazard.
Well first off as it's presented it's taking from corporations on one hand and giving it back as personal tax cuts.. basically raising corporate taxes via the back door. Who will end up paying for the higher corporate taxes? The consumers.
Second: Taxes on gasoline and heating oil are already carefully balanced so that people pay more to drive but less to heat their homes. Messing with that balance is dangerous.
Third: punishing carbon emitters is a bad idea. That's all stick and no carrot. Energy consumption is already expensive and a motivator to cut costs. What happens if you can't afford to make the needed improvements? Take my landlord for instance. He and his wife both work full time to pay for his house. We have talked several times about how he could save money by replacing his ancient heating oil system and replacing it with a new one. Want to know why he hasn't yet? He can't afford the $15 000 it would cost him. He just doesn't have that money laying around. Same goes for some of the homeowners around the corner who can't afford the major renovations needed to properly insulate their houses. My old apartment wasn't insulated properly either but my landlord didn't feel the need to insulate the place. Why not? Because I had to pay for the heating. Guess who would pay the increased carbon tax too? What obscure corner of Canada does this all happen in? St-Laurent, Dion's own riding. All he had to do was talk to some of his own constituents to find out what the problems with his plans are.

5th place for Canada is bullshit
At least one local paper in virtually every major city, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Halifax, is owned by the CanWest Global. The same organization owns the National Post, one of the two national papers, and Global TV, one of three national broadcasters. CanWest Global is owned by Izzy Asper, who is an open supporter of the ruling Liberal party and is chummy with the Prime Minister. (In most cities, the only other paper is owned by the Sun group, which publishes tabloid-quality news at best.)
CanWest Global has ordered every member paper to run unsigned national editorial, and not to publish local editorials that contradict the national line. Within the past few months, Russell Mills, the editor of the Ottawa Citizen, was fired by the parent company for publishing an article suggesting that the Prime Minister had been involved in a conflict of interest.
Fifth place, my ass.

Re:Why would he want to do that?
but would many of the readers here want even a mental image of their mother-in-law's shower
I don't know, but it is considerably better than Scotty Crane's coffee-table-style picture book of his late father's (Bob Crane, a.k.a. Col. Hogan) amateur pr0n ;)

Re:II doubt they lost any money trying to gouge
The only people who were greedy where the businesses / citizens / government in California which used up electricity with no thought to how it would effect themselves, their fellow citizens, their economy, and the environment. Yes, I realise your market was deregulated, however, the amount of power California uses lies solely in the hands of the residents of California, and that's what effects the price of said power. To demonstrate a similar supply vs. demand problem I'll point out to you that because of this crisis California, along with some other states, has been using natural gas to generate electricity. The very same natural gas that is piped under my province, and as a result my natural gas prices have gone up nearly 100% over the past 18 months. So don't talk to me about price hikes. BCHydro did California a favour by providing them with power, BC has a surplus of hydro power, California could have bought it elsewhere if they wanted to, and probably at a higher price. If anyone raised prices in California it was the local electric companies through hoarding their supplies of electricity. Remember, BC citizens aren't the people using up the electricity, Californian citizens are, and the California electric companies were the ones that got greedy and drove themselves into debt.

A different view of the California power problems.
"California's utilities have lost billions and billions. They owe it to people who (a) aren't Californian and (b) aren't kidding about collecting that debt."
I happen to live in Canada, and our local utility company is owed a fair amount of money for providing power to California. Unfortunatly the Californian utility we sold power to is now declaring bankruptcy, leaving our utility company screwed out of millions of millions of dollars (guess who's going to pay for that loss). So Californians and their utility companies aren't the only ones getting screwed over... -
Re:Back to iCrave TV.Now we didn't get all those fancy smancy commercials up here in Canada, but rather a lot of Canadian ones, even though we still see the American coverage (ABC, right?).
Yes, unfortunately. The Toronto Star even trotted out it's annual boilerplate ar ticle about it.
In the past, when the game was on FOX, it was a common practice to use rabbit ears to see the ads on WUTV-29, then switch back to CIII-41 for the action. Unfort, WKBW-7 (the ABC station) is a little trickier to pull in.
BTW, what did viewers who saw the Global version think of those fake ads they inserted using digital trickery on top of the scoreboard at the Georgia Dome? I was watching it with a friend who WORKS at Global and he was just shaking his head in shame...sadly, the over-the-top hucksterism at Global is making The New VR look professional...
So if someone watched the Superbowl on iCraveTV, they'd not see these $2 million dollar spots of advertising glory, but rather the standard Canadian "boring" commercials we regularly see.
Not to mention the cheesy "party updates" they kept carrying in some commercial blocks.
I wanna punch that sleazebag computer coming on to that poor lady in that Sprint Canada commercial.I never thought I would miss Candice Bergen, but I do. However, those "Get Smart" spoofs for Buck-a-Call are currently my pick for most annoying ads.
Any followup theories?
I don't think the fact that people would be subjected to the Canuck ads was much of a factor at all. If anything, perhaps Global put some pressure on the NFL because they knew that people would be using Icravetv to see the Yankee ads. (I know I was planning on it.)

Even worse in Canada...
This technique is in heavy usage on the Global Television Network here in Canada during their NFL feeds from CBS or Fox. Between commercials (Canadian ones--the original network commercials are not used) and the beginning of action, the screen will show a shot of the stadium, usually focussing on the JumboTron with billboard ads around it. Those billboards are changed on the fly to Global's own advertisers. For example, I doubt a local pizza chain would be able to afford to advertise in Miami's NFL stadium, let alone want to (there goes the 'thirty minutes or free' delivery guarantee).
:-)
Furthermore, they are starting to superimpose fake blimps, with logos for Canadian companies, in sky shots of the stadium. My mother thought it was so cool that an auto insurance place had their own blimp at a recent game. She was shocked to find it was computer-generated.
I cannot simply escape this by watching the CBS or Fox network versions on cable, because CRTC (Canada's version of the FCC) rules regulating a certain percentage of Canadian content mean that when I switch to the CBS or Fox station, they are replaced with the Global feed! This means we can't get any of the American commercials when both a Canadian and American network are broadcasting the same show. When commercials are the only aspect of programming that some people will watch (e.g. most of the women in my family do watch the commercials during the Super Bowl), we have to haul in an old TV, hook up the antenna, and tune to a poor broadcast signal simply to see Bud Bowl XXXVIII.
I have been thinking of creating a Boycott Global Web site all about this--they also received some pretty negative press last year about the billboard replacement stunt. Any Canadians in with me?
